Secure instant (or near instant) messaging

What is the best way to message somebody securely with instant or near instant sending times, I'll most likely be encrypting my messages with pgp keys already but a messaging platform that is more secure than discord or sms would be great to have

if you mean as instant as possible without laying cables, establish a direct connection over the internet with your contact, though any hop can see you are sending msg's. if you want to obscure this, use an anonymization network like Tor or i2p. this adds quite a bit of delay, but hidden service relaying is like 1 second assuming one party is running the hidden service and 2s for a 3rd party host. complex messaging software is more likely to have bugs that can compromise security. so a pretty bare bones configuration would be running a hidden service that points to a netcat listener. 1. edit torrc to enable hidden service, try a port over 1024 because many unix systems restrict lower ports. 2. nc -l 127.0.0.1 1337 3. give friend the hidden service address it's located /var/lib/tor/hiddenservicedir/hostname 4. on local machine: nc 127.0.0.1 1337 5. friend: torsocks nc blahblahblah.onion 1337 6. use pgp to verify messages, the socket is already encrypted by tor software a practical answer is to use xmpp. please ask in the "simple questions thread" next time, to be fair i don't look at that thread. >>22024
