China is cloning Github and its repositories

This project is owned and operated by CSDN under the company name "重庆开源共创科技有限公司". What do you think it means ? Is it part of their goal to cut themselves off from the world ?

China's tech policies are mostly protectionist. If they are cloning GitHub its probably because they don't want China's economy being invaded and fuarrrked up by foreign corpos like Microsoft or have their infrastructure depend on them. That's assuming they are cloning GitHub and this isn't just a private project by some Chinese company, which looks like the case. Americans like to think the CCP is behind everything that moves but that's not how China works. They aren't cutting themselves off, its just old fashioned protectionist policies. The Biden regime has been trying to cut them off the rest of the world and the CEO of Intel warmed that dementia riddled freak that his China policies would backfire but of course being a know it all politician he refused to listen.

> What do you think it means ? I am Chinese "CSDN" is just a company and cannot represent anyone. At the same time, Chinese netizens unanimously believe that "CSDN" is a notorious thief who steals other people's achievements from various places and puts them on their website. That's not all, their website is full of various restrictions (such as not being able to copy, not being able to read all the content without registering an account) and advertisements, and even sells things that others share for free!

>>24309 i think it's pathetic so many developers continue to stay on github post ms acquisition. I'm not a developer, but doesn't git even make it comically easy to migrate? idk why you'd need 90% of the features github or gitlab has unless you're a large organization

>>24351 The answer is clout-chasing and resume-based development. People need to earn money in order to survive and have a decent life. People do open-source in order to have resume project to show off to employers. People are not going to link the HR lady to some place called "sourcehut" when all of bigtech knows what Github roughly is. Maybe it's pathetic, but it matches the pathetic employee-employer relationship.

>>24353 Couldn't people working on, for example mpv, use something like codeberg instead of github, and then put a mirror up on github / show it off on their personal websites/cvs for the eventual hiring phase? I'm trying to understand if it's a convenience issue "everything and everyone is on github already" or a lack of thinking.

>>24354 >I'm trying to understand if it's a convenience issue "everything and everyone is on github already" or a lack of thinking. Open source works by random strangers submitting patches for bugs they found or new features they want. Github has a streamlined and well established system for submitting those changes and getting them reviewed and merged into the project. Not to mention dealing with anti-spam and things like that. If your code is just on a self hosted git repo you have given people no way to contribute. Even if you self host gitlab you are still forcing people to sign up with a valid email address and whatever in order to contribute. Anybody serious already has a github account so you might as well use github. >use something like codeberg instead of github, and then put a mirror up on github Some projects do that especially ones that are older than git or github. That gives them a way to get contributions from github users without moving their entire project there. >>24351 >i think it's pathetic so many developers continue to stay on github post ms acquisition. Nobody cares. >microsoft makes drones to help immigration police track poor oppressed persons of color who enter the country in unconventional ways Clearly they are not doing a very good job. Let me know when they strap flamethrowers to the drones then you'll have something to cry about.

Nemissa · 2024-07-05 09:27
>>24358 Sure, we've got one entry level swe position open, we just need to vacate Rajesh from it. You're going to need: >A master's degree in computer science >14 years of experience in software engineering >At least 20 contributions to major open source projects >An oath of allegiance to diversity and inclusion >Blood, urine, and stool samples >Sign the contract giving the company exclusive access to your blood, organs, and soul. >The secret masonic handshake. If you've got all that, you're good for a job here.
