If openwrt doesn't support my modem, is it just as safe to buy a separate router, which is supported, and connect it to the modem?

Another question. Assuming I've been targeted in the past and that my current modem is compromised (it is), would it be enough to simply buy another modem? What if there is something which is done on the ISP's end that would reinfect my modem yet again? All of the devices connecting will be new.

>is it just as safe to buy a separate router yeah >What if there is something which is done on the ISP's end that would reinfect my modem yet again? safest bet is to change ISP if that's a major concern. Maybe some other lainon here can give other advice.

>>22611 >safest bet is to change ISP if that's a major concern. I have already used all ISPs at my disposal

what sort of "unsafe" things are you scared about? stop being a scaredy pants and just do it

>>22615 Someone spying on me. I don't know how, but I know they are. So, I'm asking if its possible that they would have some reinfecting virus, that somehow managed to affect my ISP as well, and that would then reinfect my new modem.

>>22616 could u describe how you *know* that you're being spied on? sounds like youre a noided schizo

>>22616 >reinfecting virus, that somehow managed to affect my ISP as well Honestly, very unlikely. Your ISP has a much better security than you. If someone infects you ISP, everyone subscribed to that ISP is in trouble, not just you. It is in their best interest to usually not be compromised in any way shape or form. Don't worry about your new router, or current router, being infected in some way through your ISP. I do like the idea of tinkering with your own router, though.

>>22616 ISP being infected is unlikely, but ISPs do often use soykafty modems that aren't security focused. Regardless, It's best to have a separate router that you own, set it up with all the security configs you need, and then connect it to the modem. Use a VPN on your PC too if you trust them.
