I want to root my Sumsang Galaxy Tab A7 Lite, what software do I use? All of the options I see are closed source and I've heard people saying those types of software install malware on your device. After I root my tablet what are some applications I should install it to increase my security?

It depends on the device, just like JailBreaking iOS devices.

If you can unlock the bootloader and install TWRP, then you can install Magisk, which is open source.
Check the XDA forums, check your model number should be something like sm-t2xx and search "xda [model number]"
