Hi, i would like to ask here about how to get started into reverse engineering and exploits. I was interested in this from some time now but i now got the opportunity to do something and learn, i am referring to a ps2 exploit that (as far as i understand) uses an overflow on the DVD drive to be able to run code to read a burned DVD.
>https://cturt.github.io/freedvdboot.html (blog post that goes into technical details on the exploit if you are curious)
>https://github.com/CTurt/FreeDVDBoot (repo)
but the exploit only supports some firmware versions and i want to help with my firmware version. But i never did these things, although i know how to program and i know how to use linux.
So do you have any tips or resources to start on reverse engineering in general?

Well lain I'm an absolute beginner too. I found challenges on hackthebox to be very engaging, but I don't know how much they would transfer to reversing firmware. I'm definitely not the most experienced person to be telling you this, but it looks to me like it would take quite some time to get to a point where you can contribute to reversing firmware.

You first step is to learn assembly (https://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/pgubook). Then do crackme's and look up Ghidra tutorials and read Reversing: Secrets of Reverse Engineering (it's a old book, there might be a better book available somewhere now?). There is also this --> https://beginners.re

there's already a thread about reversing >>12464
