Vodafone's persistent user tracking system to be introduced

Undisclosed · 2022-06-01 05:45
>Called TrustPid, the system is offering persistent user tracking at the mobile ISP (Internet Service Provider) level, and will be impossible to circumvent even within browser settings, via cookie blocking or IP address masking. >This will be accomplished by assigning a fixed customer ID and linking it with all customer activity. The ID will consist of several parameters in a way that the system will sustain persistence. This type of persistent tracking inevitably raises many questions regarding privacy, and will meet opposition from privacy advocates. ...>

Will this tracking be possible for activity that happens in a tor browser vm, in a system usb tethered to a fresh lineage install?

>>19410 this is dumb and it's probably an easy peasy trick. this could be done even with most customer premises equipment. how this works? usually you can't modify such equipment and these equipments usually spit out your device's user/label@hostname into the local network for the local station to see so they can use that as a unique identifier. it's already being done by an ISP I know that isn't in US. no matter how much I restart the router it wouldn't switch to a new IP (pseudo-static using identifiers) unless it has been populated by another device (due to a mass disconnection) or if I've changed my user+hostname of the device (which is not possible with their equipment but I CAN because I tapped into their layer 2 networks directly) if it's mobile, it's either custom username/password on the APN and/or some kind of trick like ipv6 (poor privacy setting by default, insane default) maybe? otherwise it's probably just some kind of cheap captive portal. >>19418 they will still see the traffic or choose to block it or send you a C&D letter to stop using tor like that many anons i've heard about on /g/

>>19517 >they will still see the traffic or choose to block it or send you a C&D letter to stop using tor like that many anons i've heard about on /g/ People are getting C&D letters from cellphone providers because they send tor traffic over their data plan through tethering? I haven't heard about it. Were these anons using massive amounts of data or something?

>>19527 >tethering doesn't "anonymize" or improve the connection in any way >C&D wakarimasen archives is still down but you can search /g/ archives of such posts containing "cnd/c&d/cease" most of them lead to tor usage, there's even one anon that just downloaded clearnet-available stuff like "(not actually) derezzed" books and still got a c&d from their ISP, ISP will ALWAYS see the dst traffic is a tor address on their logs or GUI whatever software. I guess they just sent one due to a recent offender that used the ISP with tor so they're high alert but that doesn't change the fact they will still see your traffic and IF you have violated their terms of services they can NOW legally tap into your connection since the privacy policies and protections do not apply to fraudsters/bots and "attackers".

When you have things like IMEIs and IMSIs what difference does it make?
