I don't think it's possible for clearnet domains. http://www.whoisguard.com is similar to Njalla; I've seen movie hosting websites use it.
Another option is subdomain registration such as,
https://neocities.org/
https://www.duckdns.org/
https://freedns.afraid.org/
or you can register on the many tilde websites:
https://tilde.fun/ (I only know one)

One thing I would consider if deciding to do this, is if you want to actually retain the domain long term, you might use your actual name, or an LLC, because if there is any issue, you might lose your domain name.
I host my own email, and this is something I worry about. I choose not to incorporate.

Most big piracy sites use Njalla, it's alright if you don't intend on running a right-wing site, the owner is a leftoid. They have their own registrar (Sarek) for some TLDs.

Some places allow you to form an anonymous LLC. With that you can register.

Are there any alternatives?

There's nicevps.net which resells from Namecheap. There's Cyberhour.com that resells from Namesilo, IIRC. Mediaon.com resells from Domain-Robot, they've been around for decades.
There are many more, but if you're only concerned with anonymity then any of these will do, really.

Let’s say the site I want to host could be a forum where spicy memes (both right and left wing) are posted regularly. People calling each other glowniggers and users, people posting hammers and sickles, swastikas etc. Which one would you personally recommend when it comes to near absolute freedom of speech?
