China's All-Seeing Surveillenace State

Jim Hilger · 2017-06-27 15:33
http://archive.is/OKvDz For example: 'By 2020, the government hopes to implement a national “social credit” system that would assign every citizen a rating based how they behave at work, in public venues and in their financial dealings.'

Some fuarrrking glitterboy politician in my country is trying to push the same soykaf. Actually they're already testing the implementation in one of the high class cities. soykaf's hitting the fan.

Im very optimistic this wouldnt succeed in many countries for very long. However if everyone had my attitude it would succeed because no one would do anything. It offers too many opportunities to rebel and gain fame and followers. Tattoos, much like a citizen rating would, look terrible to many professional high class employers (the same ones that would give a soykaf about these ratings). Yet people still get them all the time and the general attitude is I wouldnt want to work somewhere where they gave a soykaf about that. Ratings and the like only mean soykaf to the people who believe in them. Thats true for anything. Middle aged white suburbanites will always follow these stupid sort of ratings systems and government bullsoykaf, but thats their world. If anything it would be a nice filter, i'd just hang out with the people with soykaf ratings and wouldnt even have to bother to get to know or find out if someone was someone I didnt want to be around. Of course im talking about if this was implemented here in the US. I understand the situation in china is probably very different.

Isn't it transhumanism, though? The quantified-self movement. Rating system causes people to compete, and competition is one of the sources to change, of will. How do you find coherence between wanting transhumanism and refusing a surveillance state? Just a provocation. I do not agree with this system. It remembers me of Psycho-Pass...

>>1245 but what is the prize of this competition? the end state is not progress, but conformity. We can't have any square cogs around here. The nail that sticks out is hammered down.

This reminds me of a blackmirror episode where everyone rates each other based on social interactions and it effects every aspect of their lives from their job, rent/home loan to renting a car. https://www.theverge.com/2016/10/24/13379204/black-mirror-season-3-episode-1-nosedive-recap

>>1245 But competing to what standard? Could this not target alternative modes of living that perhaps a plutocratic state would find threatening or in opposition to maximum profit yields?

>>1245 Transhumanism is about overcoming the biological limits of the human body. This is not transhumanism, just the logic of capital applied to all aspects of human life. > The loss of quality that is so evident at every level of spectacular language, from the objects it glorifies to the behavior it regulates, stems from the basic nature of a production system that shuns reality. The commodity form reduces everything to quantitative equivalence. The quantitative is what it develops, and it can develop only within the quantitative.

I found this talk about China's firewall to be absolutely fascinating. These researchers are studying it in much the same way a naturalist studies some foreign organism, or at least that's what it felt like to me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcC5K7QTdvM >>1754 Now is the perfect time to be revisiting Debord. Not to get all academic, but if we're talking about "societies of control" then Deleuze is also good reading, right? http://www.spunk.org/texts/misc/sp000962.txt

Reminding of Amazons future food services. They plan to use chips and facial recognition to pay for stuff.
Hacker · 2017-10-21 03:02
>>1244 it starts with stuff like ratings for social purposes and ends up with gulag if your ratings are too low the real danger isn't the system itself, its all the other stuff it could be used for once in place
