“High tech, low life”. I live day to day by scraping change together, betting online, micro bitcoin investments. I sleep on the floor in a small room I can barely afford to rent, running errands on a carbon fiber bicycle. Don’t ask how I got it. The real lowlife is being awake for 42 hours, unable to escape the dark thoughts of never amounting to anything. Knowing that someone’s half-hearted desire to buy the GPU i've posted on craigslist determines if I eat that day. Unable to pay my financial obligations, unable to find decent full time work. An employer decides that processing the drug tests can wait a week. Another week of no pay for me. Should I eat, or pay my phone bill? Dumpster diving and hoarding broken electronics. Spreading them out on the floor of the room while I wait for the soldering iron to heat up. Post them on craigslist with a disposable phone number. I have to get rid of all this shit, I don’t know where I’ll be sleeping tomorrow. Maybe I should take that cash job running less than legal product. Everyone wants something from me. My life is held together by threads. I feel so bad, I can never sleep.

Please don't turn this board into a magnet for roleplayers and attention-whores.

Neoliberal or "Terminal" Capitalism has created an entirely new class that sits below the proletariat; the precariat is growing and a lot of would-be "cyberpunks" can be considered a part of it. Imagine living without job security; living from contract to contract to make ends meet no matter how temporary. People that don't even have the privilege of earning a wage after working more than they should.
When people talk about technomads and vagabonds here I get this feeling that not many really know what it's like to live that life. I don't think OP is roleplaying, anon. The soykaf is real.

Wage is fairly new only about 200 years old, every one use to live like OP, or like feudal lord, or as a pleb of feudalism.

doesn't justify the shitty precarity, tho
Anonymous · 2015-11-04 07:33
That's harsh OP. I live with my parents but even they are having a hard time financially. I have a job and pay a few bills along with our food but I haven't had steady work in several weeks and it's been on and off like this for the better part of the year.
The internet is basically my only real outlet. I have enough for gas and tuition for night school but that's coming from a little bit of savings I managed to put together awhile back which I try not to deplete and am trying to stretch out.
It's hard for some and harder for others, the best I can tell any of you is to survive the drought. The good times will come but usually only after we suffer for a bit.

I was mentioning it because well Jefferson believed people working under the industrial revolution for a wage was the death of the freedom of man.

>cash job running less than legal product
Do what you have to do in order to survive and scrape your way out of the 'pit', as long as you don't make a lifestyle out of it

What he says is true about JobCorps. You can only go only go if you are between 16-24, and have a non-existent criminal record, however.

I don't want to end up like this.
