Best cold brew coffee?
William Holtzer · 2018-09-17 21:30
I've tried a few different brands but I'm still looking for the right coffee/product. I've pretty much accepted that starbucks is soykaf. I like black coffee and espresso, but straight coffe tastes like soykaf cold (unless there's some obscure ass brand that does it well) and Most mocha products just taste like sugary crap. I think that ideally, something like canned cafe sua da would be great. what do you think?

>buy freshly medium roasted whole coffee beans from any local coffee shop
>ground them yourself
>in a jar add 1/4 or 1/2 of coffee, fill the rest with room temperature water
>give it a good shake and let it rest in the fridge for 12 hours
>filter it the next day and move the liquid part to a new jar
>serve it however you like adding hot or cold water to a cup with at least 1/3 of it being coffee from the jar
Aaaand done. Way tastier than anything else you could get. Always go single origin and all that crap.

I'm cheap and just get Foldgers and put milk in it.
Nell · 2018-09-18 06:08
Any black coffee is undrinkable cold. It's fine with milk in my experience.

Fine lot of pansies in this thread.
>wahhh muh cawfee is tu cold!
>wahh black coffee undrikabru at room temperature

I do this on occasion, and it's actually less bitter than black coffee.

Wait, so people actually do this? I've never even thought about it before.

Yeah my friend in high school used to walk around with a bag of instant coffee eating it, the taste is far too strong and it will stain your teeth quite badly

I usually eat chocolate covered expresso beans when I'm working on a project all night. It's great.

Yeah, I'd figure so.

Now that actually doesn't sound too bad. I wonder if I could find some locally in my area. Typically how much do you pay for some?

I used to carry instant coffee when I was hoboing because you can get hot water at gas stations and if you're stuck on a train for two days you can just eat the crystals. The trick is to dissolve the crystals on the tip of your tongue, bit by tiny bit. Throwing a spoonful back all at once will make anyone gag.
This is quite different than eating the whole bean.

That sounds a lot worse than just buying bulk caffeine powder. Obviously availability is an issue, so I get why you did it in that situation though.

Seconding this. Chocolate covered or otherwise, espresso beans taste nice, but not nice enough that you'll eat too many of them.
Somewhat of a tangent, but I heard somewhere that lots of people in some south american countries chew coca leaves (as in cocaine) like tobacco. I've always been curious about that.

to add on to this, you can insufflate caffeine powder. i'm sure it's not good for you, but it works and doesn't burn too bad. i used to do it in college before i had reliable access to prescription stimulants or cocaine.

Nah, the instant crystals don't taste bad if you eat them very slowly. I got to liking it actually. Sometimes I still do it when I'm in the library for hours and hours and don't want to leave what I'm doing to buy coffee.

Chewing coca is just like smoking cigarettes or drinking coffee in other countries, it's a part of the culture there. There's more to it than just the stimulant, which by the way is mild compared to cocaine powder, crack or other derivatives. It's hard for the human body to exist at high altitudes continuously and there are properties in coca that aid in digestion and the absorption of key nutrients in the thin air. I can't explain the science but it's online somewhere for sure.
Also heavy labour is a matter of economic survival in many communities. The stimulant comes in handy there too.

South american here.
Coca leaves help you when you're in part with high altitude as a way to relax your muscles and help you breath better, as your blood needs more oxygen as higher from the sea level you are.
>as in cocaine
Indeed cocaine is produced from coca leaves but coca only acts as an stimulant, nothing more. It's tradition and part of the culture, and also there's an extrict law of not selling it to foreigner under any circumstances.

i just assume you'd need to make sure you don't OD (as it's easier when snorting), btw. can you get pure caffeine in shops or do you have to make it yourself? just interested, not planning to snort anything any time soon

You can buy anhydrous caffeine powder on amazon last I checked. I bought some it was like 15 bucks for 100 grams in a bottle. Insulfating is basically the only way to go for loose powder because it is incredibly bitter. You probably wouldn't have to worry too much about OD because it doesn't effect your lucidity and the more you take, the more soykaf you feel. Besides that you can take a reasonably large amount without too much ill effects. Took 3 grams over the course of all nigher once and the worst thing that happened was a panic attack.

They have them in most coffeeshops, it’s pretty cheap like a normal snack. Maybe a bit more.

Sadly, the closest coffeeshop to me is a Starbucks roughly 45 minutes away.

You can buy it over the internet too since it's not perishable, or even make your own by melting chocolate in a double boiler then pouring it over your own beans. With that last one you'll end up with something more like a chocolate bar with coffee in it, but it's still nice.
