Is cyberpunk dead? I've recently gotten into it.
Roger Pollack · 2018-08-30 17:53
>>9187 First we would have to set on what is meant by "cyberpunk" in this thread. Because by now what "cyberpunk" means to people ranges from programming, science and questioning authorities/companies and connecting with likeminded people all the way down to just "look neon colors and cosplay" So what is it you mean when you say you recently got into it?
Otto Normalverbraucher · 2018-08-30 18:10
Cyberpunk is a genre defined as "high tech, low life" displaying a dystopic future of capitalism with elements of high inequality and high technological advancement.
<ZERO> · 2018-08-30 18:11
>>9188 well, for me it's programming, science and questioning authorities/companies and connecting with like minded people. and by recently got into it I mean I saw Mr. robot and re-watched the matrix, blade runner and all those movies and after that I found this site and got a stronger interest for programming and coding.
Delilah · 2018-08-30 19:15
The Cyberpunk dystopia is alive and well in the real world, however the cyberpunk aesthetic has been delayed and will be applied in a patch at a later date.
<ZERO> · 2018-08-30 19:27
>>9192 Thank you.
The Plague · 2018-08-30 19:58
I don't wanna roleplay as a mod right now but our hobby thread already got derailed by "what is cyberpunk" if were gonna have this debate can we put it in humanity or somewhere and just have it's own dedicated thread?
Nameless · 2018-08-30 20:22
Cyberpunk is duck! Hack the planet! Do drugs kids!
Yuki Nagato · 2018-08-30 21:02
>>9190 i think you are confusing cyberpunk and cyberpunk larping
<ZERO> · 2018-08-31 05:47
>>9196 I don't larp though. I mean, the movie aspect kinda went away after awhile. now I'm just learning programming, spreading anarchy/crypto-anarchy/agorism, and hanging out with anonymous. which I never really thought I would get to to be honest.
Lady 3Jane.. · 2018-08-31 11:25
>>9203 >and hanging out with anonymous Oh yea, you're larping and a child
Sipho Nkosi · 2018-08-31 14:27
>>9214 Says the anon..
Lain Iwakura · 2018-08-31 14:36
>>9203 Have you seen Hackers? Also isn't anonymous basically dead/old now? I feel like other "hacktavists" have taken their place. Maybe I haven't been following them for awhile.
Hououin Kyouma · 2018-08-31 15:06
>>9218 there are no anons here
<ZERO> · 2018-08-31 17:47
weather or not there are any anons here doesn't matter. and no, not in person but I'm in a group of 20 old school anons, I think it's 20, or more. they're very much still active. they're just doing their thing on a local scale and fighting each other.

facebook killed the /cyb/ star
Judge Fang · 2018-09-25 12:50
>>9589 How come? I think facebook was just a product of it's time. Internet users wanted to share soykaf and have an audience so they made blogs and livejournals and soykaf like that. Facebook gave the users an audience and the option to meddle into other people's lives. My point is that it's the user's fault, not the websites. Oversharing to strangers over the internet is a human problem.

>>9187 It's a cyberpunk world. You're just living in it.
Tomohisa "Tom" Kanezaki · 2018-10-14 15:09
Cyberpunk isnt dead, its just not a fiction genre anymore. If you told people in the 80's that people in 2020 would suffer from computer addictions, could afford advanced computer technology but not housing or healthcare, and be subject to constant political advertising, they would say it sounds futuristic and dystopian. If you told that to anyone born past the year 2000, it would just be mundane. If cyberpunk to you is the resistance of these changes, then boomers and conservatives are the real cyberpunks. If these changes are cyberpunk to you, then we are all cyberpunk.
Cypher · 2018-10-14 15:35
>>9852 classic cyberpunk no longer exists in the way it did in the 80s. a lot of cyberpunk fiction also revolved around the early 2000-10s anyway, talking to my parents about where they thought technology would be back when 1st generation smartphones came out, they never foresaw cell phones serving the surveillance, multipurpose computer and identification/wallet roles that they do today, back in the 70s and 80s on a less visible level, things like minority report (precrime data analysis from metadata) and blade runner (designer GMO animals) are already everywhere, just not filling the roles people thought they would. the only thing we lack today is hovercars and a blatant omnipresent police state that creates a depressing panopticon (the state rather being masked my memes, humor, and a facade of unimportant). somehow knowing all of this, my parents install every bit of adware and spyware because "the manufacturer released it" or "but I get deals with this company app" or that corporations can do no harm

>>9203 Anarchy is larping. It's for butt-pirates and preteens.
