Meme War

I made a web app that's a cross between a game and imageboards. The point is to make brewing soykaf more interactive; a true *imageboard*. I started using lainchan because I wanted something more cyberpunk themed. That's the goal of my game/imageboard as well. I also am fascinated by memetics, so I borrow a lot of terms from that science to name stuff in the game. I just started a fresh server and I'm trying to get some sample real-world data, but it should be up consistently for the next week or two. Feel free to leave feedback here or in Meme War.

>>9106 A 3yr+ lurker here. Just wanted to show my keen interest over said project by writing my first ever comment on lainchan (yay! ...I guess). Currently the link(s) aren't working, but I do hope you'll get it running someday (no rush, just keep us posted if/when you do, mmmkay? ;) ).

>>9470 Dude that seriously warms my heart. It's up for good now! I think. Give it a try: http://memewar.io Be warned it only works on Chrome right now and you can't really do anything on mobile except use the infodrug feed and read the about page. The tutorial wasteland has a short tutorial, and the "Confused? Learn more" button in the lower right is a comprehensive about page. Feel free to ask me any questions or comments here, in-game, or at memewar.team@gmail.com It's a pretty complex system, so don't hold back about asking questions. Also, if you register an account and post your username in this thread, I'll set your stats to 100MV and the first 10 items (postmaker, commenter, upvoter, downvoter, pocket dimension creator, magic marker, shunter, url shooter, and claymore postmaker) all obtained.

>>9750 I'm glad you appreciated the gesture. Normally, I don't use Chrome, but I went and reinstalled it anyway. I tried the link, but it has been loading for almost an hour now. I'll leave it running over the night just to see will it commit a 404. >postmaker, commenter, upvoter, downvoter, pocket dimension creator, magic marker, shunter, url shooter, and claymore postmaker Are those abilities you'll obtain over the course of the game or more like statuses? Either way, sounds like mighty fun.
Neo · 2018-10-05 00:03
>>9757 Please close that tab! I think that's been causing a problem with the server! If the dimension doesn't load immediately, it will never load. >postmaker, commenter, upvoter, downvoter, pocket dimension creator, magic marker, shunter, url shooter, and claymore postmaker It might help to think of items more like forum privileges. This is not technically a game because there is no win condition. It's simply a more interesting way to communicate on the internet. It's a gamified forum, not a forumified game. That could change though.

>>9758 So, I managed to get into the server after all and I gave it a run last night despite me saying that I'd leave it for tomorrow. Although I didn't have the time to utilize all the items or manage to master the whole concept in its entirety, I'll try to give my first impressions on it anyway. First of all, like you said, it is a complex system. There's a lot to learn, but it's not really overwhelming. There was one thing that I found especially frustrating or troubling, namely trying to chat. Basically I managed communication via the ''reply to this post'' option, which made the process a bit clunky to say the least. As I understood it, there was a special item to ease the process, so I guess that's all on me. Then there was a minor issue at Edgetopia which I discovered. One of the four images (the one with the picture titled ''normal person advice'') there is hard to read in its entirety due to the small comments and one image overlapping it. I haven't discovered other similar cases, but I could imagine this developing into a huge problem with a bigger population. In overall, I really liked it and thought it was an interesting approach to soykafposting. Sadly, it started to get a bit lonely in the longer run once I explored all the domains in there. Are you intending on sharing it on some other chan in the near future? It might provide you with a bigger sample development-wise. Oh, almost forgot. In the login screen it states that it only works in Chrome, but just recently I managed to visit it using Firefox. Just thought you might want to know...

>There was one thing that I found especially frustrating or troubling, namely trying to chat. Noted. I'll give all users a magic marker by default. >One of the four images (the one with the picture titled ''normal person advice'') there is hard to read in its entirety due to the small comments and one image overlapping it. We'll try to think of a solution to that problem. Until then, keep in mind that you can click on the block (even if it's invisible) to open the picture in a new tab, not unlike clicking on the picture filename here. This doesn't work if you place a picture using a commenter, which is our bad. Right now you have to post a picture using any of the other block types to in order to open the picture in a new tab. >Sadly, it started to get a bit lonely in the longer run once I explored all the domains in there. Are you intending on sharing it on some other chan in the near future? I think there is currently an issue with multiplayer where the other player doesn't show up. Any time you saw a static sprite in where you spawn, that meant there was another user in the same dimension as you. As for the general lack of users, no real way around that at the moment. We plan on releasing it to 420chan and 8chan on 11/11, 8/agdg/'s demo day. We specifically intend to market to both the alt-right and leftists in order to encourage them battling. We'll probably also wage slave on Twitter a bit because it seems they like this kind of aggressive brewing soykaf there. >In the login screen it states that it only works in Chrome, but just recently I managed to visit it using Firefox. Right now, you'll be able to visit using Firefox, but traveling to another dimension will set your MV to 1 and all your items will disappear. Don't worry, Firefox is my personal browser of choice (even though it only has like a 5% marketshare compared to Chrome's 50%) but it's one of our top priorities right now. We know exactly what the issue with Firefox is, it's just a matter of implementing it now.

My servers back online and should be for a while. In fact, I have two right now: http://memewar.io and http://alt.memewar.io Rather annoyingly, http://alt.memewar.io is running a lot better and there's more stuff to see in it as well. Hopefully it will get more populated later this weekend during 8/agdg/'s demo day. As always, feedback is appreciated and questions will be answered.
