Does anyone remember webrings? They were quite popular in the late 90s and early 00s when search engines where still in the early stages and people wanted to find websites of a similar theme. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webring I thought it would be a cool idea to make a webring that contains the personal homepages of lainons. What do you think?
Koos van der Merwe · 2018-09-29 22:56

I thought about making a web monologue for a long time, since most of my thoughts and ideas are poisonous to the brainless masses I decided to use their own carrier to possibly inject some of my own poison. It's main purpose is to try to jumpstart a person's brain. A working brain is anathema to conformists, If your mind already works it may help you broaden your mental scope. Unfortunately shortly after starting it I went back to work and am working my ass off and I lost a bunch of archived exercises which I had planned to post so it wouldn't resemble the Dreamcast release. https://alric-rahl-the-original.tumblr.com

This is a nice topic. My website can be found here: http://verisimilitudes.net/ My current main project involves a machine code development tool I've been creating, the main article for which can be found here; I've discussed it in /λ/ and elsewhere: http://verisimilitudes.net/2017-07-07 Attached to this post are images of this tool on my website, but that I don't otherwise link to; just today I optimized all of the images for size. Earlier in this year, I also decided it would be nice to have a webring of sorts on my website, for when Lainchan ceases to exist and I still want some contacts; I've also included contacts from people with no relation to Lainchan whose websites I enjoyed. This is more of a network, however, since I link to every page, but many of them only link back to me: http://verisimilitudes.net/2018-02-22 >>9709 >Does anyone remember webrings? They were quite popular in the late 90s and early 00s when search engines where still in the early stages and people wanted to find websites of a similar theme. How interesting you mention them. >I thought it would be a cool idea to make a webring that contains the personal homepages of lainons. What do you think? I'm solely interested in making website affiliations with other websites concerning technical material and I'd expect these websites to take themselves seriously. If any of you are interested, reply telling me so or email me.

I just finished the new Chuck Palahniuk book Adjustment Day and decided to whip up the "America's Least Wanted" list from it. In the novel, some guy makes a website like this and during a violent revolution in America, people receive a bounty (in a new currency) for killing anyone on the list above a certain threshold. It needs to be prettied up but it's currently fully functional. http://159.203.169.144:4000

codelobe.com been working on lots of invisible stuff behind the scenes lately such as platform abstraction, a new cross platform ANSI editor (w/ HTML/CSS output, used to draw my intro graphic), the template language that runs the site, etc. plan to start posting more on there once I finish the templater's syntax highlighter to color code fragments... hopefully before the other site's entry system gets recoded.

My personal site. It has a text-board and an image generator. I am hoping to make some money from the site in the future. But, if Andrew Yang becomes president in USA and makes UBI a reality then I won't have to worry about money anymore. Until then I am working on further improving the Image Generator and hopefully make it popular enough to increase site traffic and then I will put some adverts and make some NEETbux. Come check it out https://beey.space/index.html
Mentat · 2019-03-17 09:36
>>10839 Thanks! Still working on a textmode game & its ANSI art editor... but there have been complications I don't want to bitch about... fuarrrk it, I'll vent a bit here. I had to rewrite my cross platform multi-threading asynchronous file IO code and implement new synchronization primitives because pthreads (POSIX threads) maintainers irrationally hate spurious wake conditions -- even though you are supposed to be able to return "interrupted" from pthreads condition variable wait (and other syscalls, like select) when you have enabled this behavior via signal API / sigaction (so you could wait and get woken on IO event). The last time (2006) there was a "recognized" bug in the pthreads implementation (also due to erroneously squashing spurious wakes) the pthreads maintainers took 5 fracking years, and a standards committee deliberation to tell them, "yes, your buggy code is buggy" (after fervently arguing themselves into a corner that their crap didn't stink). So, instead of waiting another half decade I just reimplemented parts of pthreads to be actually POSIX compliant and interrupt upon receipt of signals (when desired), so that my server's threads' non-blocking IO can actually do what POSIX intends. Asynchronous file IO is a pain in the ass on both win[e] & linux... but my cross-platform API is getting there. I'll open source it eventually along with the cross platform threading synch API written in C - its condition variables are 20% to 30% faster than C++ cond vars (as they wrap the buggy Win32 and pthreads APIs and are implemented in pure user space avoding lib & syscalls where possible with GCC atomic operations). Ah, webdev in C, that's how we used to do it back in the day... Apache, ISS, and NGINX will still invoke a compiled C binary as a CGI "script", if you mark it executable. It's both a real pain & joy making old tech work in today's world. >>10864 Shows promise! Suggest supplying some default values for the image generator fields & maybe accept a # as in "#fff" for colors.

I have a project that finds and amplifies artists from my state in Brazil by displaying their work in public spaces (elementary schools, etc). I love to talk about it. http://centralgoiania.com.br I also commission art and transform it and try to sell it to make money for this project. I've got a really awesome experimental 3d project coming soon, a children's book, and an aluminum pan that cuts perfect hand pies. It's so fun. All the artists I've talked to are kids. I routinely have people turn down my projects because they are studying for an exam or smth. If you're from Goiania, pls hmu xD

Nobody special · 2020-02-06 14:32
>>15672 I use Joplin because it's simpler https://joplinapp.org/ It's an Evernote/OneNote substitute, it uses markdown and does the job. It has a phone app as well you can sync via cloud or otherwise. If you're a masochist you can learn TiddlyWiki https://tiddlywiki.com/ The site you see is the actual software, it's really powerful and you can style it anyway you want but you've got to learn its programming. After unsuccessfully trying to figure out how to make an ordered list of entries with a tag I decided it's too complicated. If you just want a very simple website then go with Neocities but it's a pain that you can't mount the site unless you have a pro account. So you have to drag/paste the edited files into your browser every time and sometimes it's buggy and pastes them in the wrong folder. The in-built editor is really basic so if you want to use a proper editor you gotta do all the uploading manually.
H.R. Giger · 2020-02-06 14:59
>>15705 Oh also Joplin gives you the option to encrypt your notebooks which is a feature I really like especially considering I sync the folder with my phone. If you want to be anonymous online, you should not mention anything vaguely personal or even type in a way that is too recognizable. Stay offline if you care about privacy.
