Donating Plasma For Money
Zhora · 2018-05-10 06:06
Plasmapheresis is the automated process used to extract your plasma. Your blood is drawn through an IV and run through a centrifuge to extract the plasma. Your red blood cells are then returned with an anticoagulant to prevent clotting and the process is repeated until the target amount of plasma is collected. The amount varies based on your weight. Some places like my plasma center, CSL Plasma, will pay you based on your weight. Others like BioLife will pay the same no matter how much you weigh. In the end they give you some room temperature saline solution to replace the lost volume so you may feel a little cold. In the United States, the money you earn is tax-free so you don't need to report it. You can donate twice a week with one day in between each donation. The first visit takes the longest because you have to answer more questions and get a physical.
If you're interested look up your local centers and call to see which pays the most. And don't forget to lie on questionnaire about stupid things that would prevent you from donating plasma but won't affect your health if you donate plasma. Be consistent because they test you more than once. I've been using the money to invest in Ethereum.

Having one's blood removed to buy credits is very /cyb/, but I'm not sure that I'd do it, myself.
How much do they pay you for one session, how long does it take?

I used to do this a few years ago, so my info might be outdated.
>Payment
You got $50 for the first five donations, after that $20 for the first donation of the week and depending on your weight 110-149lbs $20, 150-175lbs $40, 176lbs and up $45 for the second donation.
>Time
The actual donation ~30-40mins
The wait for a seat to open up ~0-40mins depending on how many people are in queue ahead of you.
Two things worth noting:
Where I donated they loaded your money on a debit card, I heard from others there that they used to give cash so it might be different for each location.
If you even get a false positive for HIV/Aids or Hepatitis C they put you on a donor deferral list.

The part where they pump your separated blood back makes me nervous.

That's always the best part for me. I'm usually sleep-deprived, malnurished, and maybe a little dehydrated, so the removal tends to make me feel tired and, well, exactly how you would expect having your blood sucked to make you feel. The return feels like a sudden burst of energy and vitality.

No, I meant it would be uncomfortable for me to accept large amounts of something that just came out of me back inside, seems "dirty". Although, plasma donation appears to be paid better than simple blood donation in my country, or is it the same in US?
>usually sleep-deprived, malnourished, and maybe a little dehydrated
How did you pass for this procedure? Donors are supposed to be 10/10 healthy and definitely not malnourished.

The Federation is very interested in donations of blood serum. Our mutoids will be more than happy to help you!

It's not like anybody has a test for sleep deprivation, and they don't actually care how malnourished you are as long as you're fed. (By, "Malnourished," I don't mean," Underfed." I mean, "Not getting enough proper nutrients." I have two major diagnosed vitamin deficiencies that I'm doing nothing to address, but I eat enough food, just not food with the vitamins I need.) Dehydration is the one that actually matters because it will slow down the donation and maybe stop it early, so I've become more careful about that since having a few issues.

Please at least take a multivitamin. Certain vitamin deficiencies can lead to serious, acute health issues that will require hospitalization.

I do when I can afford it, and I get prescription spplements when I have health insurance, but the last two months have not fallen under either of those.

Those time to completion are very conservative. These facilities are usually placed in Low income neighborhoods which are jam packed with low income people. Hours upon hours of wait. You better be there before they open for the day

I wish I could, but they won't let me because of my antipsychotics

That seems like
"My extracted blood is from a man therefore if I get it inside me that would make me gay" meme

I have only done so once and it was a very interesting experience. After all the paperwork and tests, the nurse fumbled with locating my nerve and which lead to both arms being poked. All in all, it was a long, exhausting experience but I did get 75$ out of it. Used the money to pay an internet bill and buy headphones sadly enough.

My parents did this when I was a kid for extra cash to get us by.
