are you a nice person in real life? do you try to be one? does it make you happy to make other people happy? or are you more on the selfish side of things? I'm not trying to be mean to either side by the way, I just want to know what the majority says. I personally don't talk to that many people in real life, but I always try to be nice when I do talk to them.
Chani · 2018-02-21 04:05
I have no reason to be nice to them I have more sympathy for online people than real people
Tank · 2018-02-21 09:42
I would say im polite, but its all a damn farce. On the inside im a sick psycho, im not sure if anyone knows or suspects. It feels like a mask and all the things i do and say feel more like reflex. I think i simply emulate emotions, but i dont have much real care for others i think. Its all learned and adapted behavior based on reactions i assume. Might be a psychopath.
Shogun · 2018-02-21 12:16
>>7008 I don't know what its like to be a psychopath, all I know is, you're literally unable to feel emotions. still, you do understand that killing people is wrong, right? a lot of psychos that end up killing people do it because they gave no fuarrrks about the person and or didn't know it was wrong. I also don't know how hard it may be for you to act nice, but I'll give you points for at least trying. sorry if this came out as rude. I've just always wanted to talk to a psychopath to see his unfiltered point of view.
Ender · 2018-02-21 13:07
It's hard to really say, with my close ones and anyone who is willing to give me a chance and put up with me, I think I'm very kind and go out of my way to make them happy. I don't particularily feel happy when they feel happy either though ; but the same can be said about them feeling sad. With strangers I am just neutral, but my neutrality comes off as the opposite of nice to many because I say what I think without much filters. My social persona leaves to be desired and I kinda tend to shove my actual me in other people's faces weither or not it's nice and polite which gives the impression to many that I'm not nice and kills a lot of potential friendships or romances before they could start. I think it's a part of why I go out of my way to be kind to people who don't stop at that.
Special Agent Bob · 2018-02-21 14:29
I would like to think I am, but I'm also a grumpy bastard so I probably don't come off that way I also don't see people much anyway so even if I was a saint to be around it wouldn't make much difference to anyone
Donna Hawthorne · 2018-02-21 16:48
>>7009 >end up killing people because they give no fuarrrks have you ever spent one fuarrrking minute thinking like an emotionless human, how ignorant can you be to think like this? first of all they all can feel at a "certain" level they just require much more stimuli to do also they are found to feel anger, envy, jealousy without these emotions these people wouldn't have become CEOs or serial killers secondly an human without emotions sees the world way more rationally than normal people this means they know killing someone will be really bad for them in the long run it is true that some psychos end up killing people and often in cruel ways due to lack of empathy (however this doesnt mean they dont understand emotions) finally how can you assume he/she is a psychopath lack of emotions can be caused by many other things and that's if the anon isn't trying to be an edgy fuarrrkboy by claiming to be a psycho
zz · 2018-02-21 19:06
people usually think i'm nice, but probably only i know that it's all because of my selfishness so in the long run i can benefit from this kind of attitude sometimes i wish i were different though
Just another Random Lainon · 2018-03-02 20:09
>>7008 >It feels like a mask and all the things i do and say feel more like reflex. Similar position here. In the work environment I try to put on a fake smile and pretend like I'm excited. This drains me as I'm not someone who generally gets energy from being around people. I'm more relaxed around friends, although still somewhat hesitant to let my guard down. Guess I'm probably not a pleasant person to hang out with.
William Holtzer · 2018-03-02 20:40
At school it costs 0.7€ to buy a coffee, but there is a minimum limit of 1€, so i balance it out with lollypops that i sneak into my classmates backpacks or give out. "Nice" is a very subjective concept that depends on morals of which are mere social constructs though. Though there is also the innate nature of social animals to do "nice" things to each which give you a reward of feeling well.
Yet Another Lainon · 2018-03-04 03:20
>>7006 I dunno about polite or anything, or if that even has anything to do with being nice. I try to be helpful and friendly but also stern and direct. Making others happy does make me happy. I wonder if it's selfishness that encourages it.
Armitage · 2018-03-04 13:38
>>7057 Well I think you’re a subjectively nice person, when someone gives me something small like that it always makes my day
Fred Nurk · 2018-03-04 15:41
I would say I am neutral. I don't make any active effort to be nice - no smiles, no round warm encouraging speech, not many gestures. I do try to be polite and not step on, bump into or block the path of people. If they ask something I answer informatively if I can, but skip saying hi. I don't pet dogs but skip a step or two so they can smell my leg/hand/whatever so they can ID me. In general my approach is to keep the machine running smoothly. A rare exception for example is when me and other people are getting off a tram and those wanting to get on block the path. When this happens, or if they try to get on before people get off I make sure I give them a shoulder, preferably so that they are pushed back off. It's not that I'm mad at them, they just need a reminder that everyone is better off if they leave a path. Oil the machine. Between course people, friends etc I am a sort of puzzle - I always do and say rude stuff sarcastically. They usually realize that it's a joke, but somehow it still sinks in. I somehow balance it with an occasional unexpected smile+nice comment so they know we're still on the same side. Also, OP. I absolutely fuarrrking love you for the Hai-Ryuun.

I tried to be. For too long. Now I want to be the opposite. I've met many lizards in my time. I want to learn from them.

It brings me great joy when people around me are happy. Other people's sadness affects me deeply too, especially if it something beyond my control. Most of the time it's just some acknowledgement that people need; listening to what they have to say, and making an effort to understand, even if you don't agree with their views. Sometimes is not even that, just saying hello and inviting someone to play a game, or to ask about that thing they were working on, is enough. >>7062 >Between course people, friends etc I am a sort of puzzle - I always do and say rude stuff sarcastically. You shouldn't act surprised that it eventually "sinks in". That sounds like abusive behavior. >>7067 What eventually happened for you to want that?
Elliot Alderson · 2018-03-05 21:05
>>7079 It actually works pretty well in family; I guess people outside need more time to get accustomed and to learn to 'hit back'.
Yuki Nagato · 2018-03-05 21:08
I always try to make other people happier if the option is there, just because why not. It doesn't affect me either way so I might as well make them feel nice. But beyond basic politness that noone really cares about, I can never find oppourtunities to do this in meatspace. It's weird, but I find it hard to think of meat people as people and I have no idea how to please them.
Chani · 2018-03-10 13:55
I wouldn't consider myself as a "nice" person. But despite that, I do not try to mark my position or show-off my value to random strangers like total dicklord. What I hate the most it's this type of hubristic people who fell in love with their own intellect. I'm rather aloof, mostly because it's more convenient that way. Maybe I'm just scared of others hurting my beliefs or trying to choke me with their absolute truths. When someone opens up to me, I feel like I could put up all my effort to make conversation engaging. But it works only that way, I don't start any discussions, nor do any random acts of kindness. Second thing is, I don't like depending on others. Even when I need help and know really well that without asking for it coming up with solution would be nearly impossible. When I finally do ask for help, I often feel guilty of wasting someone's time, or asking too stupid questions. And my behavior is somewhat, hmmm... avoiding? In places like buses or trains, I don't wait for "excuse me", but try to predict if perhaps I'm hindering anyone. Sometimes, this extends beyond as I try to predict what are other people's feelings towards me just by looking at them, or how they behave.
Cypher · 2018-03-10 14:09
People say that I'm nice, but it's not out of effort, more of me being a softy. I hate seeing people upset or hurt, so I try to reassure, or just try to be a pal if they're feeling dumpy. I can't even kill bugs, I just want everyone to be happy.
Y.T · 2018-03-10 14:09
I did too many bad things that I don't even know how to be a nice person. Nonetheless I am trying to become one.
Project 2501 · 2018-03-11 05:27
I'm fairly neutral. I won't go out of my way to help others but I also won't be a dick for no reason and generally try to act polite.
XERXES · 2018-03-13 18:14
I've been trying to be, Honestly my co-workers have noticed i've been really angry and shutting myself off from the world.
Unidentified · 2018-03-13 18:36
Kindness should be a very low priority if you want to be a good person. Honesty comes before all, and honesty often tends to conflict with niceties. Actively kind people tend to be deceptive or just ignorant.
Takagi · 2018-03-14 02:05
I'm not really inclined to being nice. I'm not rude either. I just do my things and if someone else asks for help, I'll help them if I feel like it. However, I let people vent and talk to me because I know how much it hurts to not talk it out. Plus, I usually try to disguise my lack of will to be nice with being a cutie, be it hugging people or meat, acting gay towards meat as a joke, cutesy emotes, etc... Relatives are spared the embarassement but are met with fake empathy and happiness for them, a façade of friendliness - I feel like having or not having a way to communicate with them wouldn't matter a lot to me. Also first time here, hello!
Agent Jones · 2018-04-05 14:19
People always tell me I'm a good person. Kind of tired of hearing it. I'm in a rough financial situation, legal situation, cant hold a job, and unable to build relationships because of a crippling fear of intimacy. What good has "being a good person" done me? Sure virtue is supposed to be its own reward. But I can barely afford to feed myself. My mental and physical heAlth are in steady decline And when people say it all I hear in their voices and see I'm their eyes is pity. And it makes me want to hurt them. I'm not a good person. There's something wrong with my mind. I live in constant fear of what I know I'm capable of doing (and shame for the things i've done when I've lost control) I once nearly killed bashed a mans brains in with a Yankee candle. If my friends hadn't pulled me off him I would have done it. I just abide by a set of rules I've devised for myself.
