Why do you come to Lainchan?

What is it you gain by coming here? What are your conscious, neat, and presentable reasons? Do you have any reasons that aren't so tidy, that are strange or selfish or otherwise humane?

I seek social capital. it's embarrassing, but it's the truth.

i gain nothing. im here because im bored and wish i could go back a few years when this place felt welcoming and exciting. now im a different person with different tastes and sensibilities. the radio is still pretty good though.

I like interesting imageboards. Don't like discord, xitter or reddit. 4cu...ck is soykaf and so is the (((soysphere))) so I guess this is the place I ended up in. It also helps I have been wearing wires since I was 14 after watching Lain. I also find the posters here more agreeable with my own beliefs.

There are interesting things and people here, but mostly because I'm bored as hell in class, it's a source of entertainment.

to lurk, and very rarely post mainly because i expect those similarly ideologically aligned to be here, in some capacity, since this is the sort of place i would go, i would expect others to be here as well. desolate, however. expecting to find something i guess but as to what that is i don't know

it's the only imageboard where people aren't using slurs that much like if they were an infant who just learnt the word retard or something. i'm not even super against it but it just gets boring. besides that it's pretty neat, you can find cool soykaf and have moderately interesting conversations with people about niche topics.

I come here because I enjoy interaction with strangers, but I hate most people. If I'm doing this IRL, then I've figured out which bars I should go to. But sometimes --- if I'm in a remote place --- I'll do it online. Lainchan is my internet hipster dive bar. I come here, because I come here. I go to the bars I go to, because I go there. Anywhere you go, anything you do, you make a bunch of decisions and you select for a certain type of person. And we're an insufferable bunch, to people who wouldn't come here, but they're an insufferable bunch to us. So I come here because I hate people, and I love myself, I'm an eclectic enlightened narcissist, and I love you guys.

like others in this thread, i don't really gain much of anything on here other than lurking through convos and such, lainchan is a very comfy place to be and one of the few places where it has interesting concepts, thoughts, pieces of knowledge that you typically don't find in other places, if at all. also the fact that i just can't stand the constant abrasive and asshole attitudes on some imageboards akin to 4chan

I come here in times of social isolation. Unlike a decent proportion of others here I do have a fairly functional social life, but it does get lonely at times (especially in summer like now). It gives me comfort in a perverse way: when I feel bad about myself for failing my goals or relationships, I can remind myself that there are seriously people wasting their vital force on irrelevant issues like debating text editors or BSD distributions. The disconnect from reality makes this place attractive for me. I don't really learn anything except learning to forget. Been hanging around here for 5 years since I was 15; back then I was actually learning stuff from tech and coding threads, nowadays the site is saturated with people who don't understand the site's slow-posting high-effort culture, making it less fun to seriously use as before. In a way, this is a good thing, because I'm convinced the internet should be the means to, not the end of your life. The older I get and more connected with fellow homo sapiens, the less care about the wired. I hope all of you hermits and NEETs get the good ending and start blooming, it's never too late. Quite a glitterboy statement, but I would claim that I wouldn't even be posting this if my recent romantic impossibility hadn't happened.

Only place online where I can read posts from humans and actually empathize with them. Everywhere else is saturated with mass culture to the point where it feels like speaking to some abstract entity rather than individual humans. Even most of my irl friends who I enjoy spending time with are also victim to this. Either that or obvious AI astroturfing and propaganda like certain other sites.

rarely visit, but my altchan just died recently and I don't have social media I can post freely on. Only TT and discord, but discord only used for research and finding interesting researchers to connect to. I like the vibe which may be imagined due to how little total time I have actually spent here, but it's a very comfy and unique mysterious kind of nighttime vibe for me. I don't enjoy taking things too seriously and I'd probably clash with moderation if I stayed here longer or more, but I GUESS the cleaner text is appreciated and has it's own perks sometimes. But really it's just the imagined night vibe or whatever. Like this is an alternate reality, half dream half psychedelic, something reminding me slightly of my old home 420chan, but yeah... I only feel free to post and soykafpost on imageboards noawadays. things are about to get extremely weird in the cyberspace and I'm trying to tie up all the loose ends. New sims, new phones, new google accs, fuarrrk microsoft, move to zorin linux, refactor all my data, set up encrypted home server for any server needs etc... Also it's one of the very very few animes I think are actual works of art. Still unpolished, but truly unique and beautiful. very few series I have actually thought were spectacular. berserk comes to mind. Ok, I'll stop rambling now I'm probably not even considered one of you.

Can I tell you instead why I don't often *stay* long at lainchan on the odd occasion I do come there? It's because it's full of the same asshole teenage mentalities I knew when I was that age, and it fuarrrking is like kicking dead whales down the beach. You know the types because in all likelihood you're one of them - I was, god forbid. Just look across the most active boards - posters complaining vaguely about society, proclaiming intelligence but refusing to actually suggest or offer alternatives. It's all a front of using big words to sound intelligent with none of the substance and perspective of actual knowledgeable people. I'd probably get more from lain if I had an interest in the core topics of programming and computer science - but for the laymen there's nothing but pretention. The actual reason I come here though is because I desperately miss britfa.gs and need that contact with an anonymous yet familiar pool of friends. Long live the king or smth, I don't know. Miss you folks, maybe I'll get that discord in another year or two :|

its the best place for anon discussion which is a low bar (and lainchan doesnt jump very high + its kinda dyng). im not a part of any community that uses continuous identities but the best of those probably have much better discussions and whatnot.

The only image board without cancer. Lain is the only place with actual good technological conversations. It's also a good place to go to turn off my mind yet still not overstimulate or just to think about tech and opsec. Lain, unlike every other non imageboard platform lacks the algorithm aspect and video aspect. I'm mostly sitting in silence reading making it really good to have actual thoughts instead of eating up whatever soykaf the retard in the guy fox mask and dark hoodie tells me;

I used to lurk here regularly back in 2017-2018ish I think? Then I went onto a big hiatus of IB usage, a few months ago I started upgrading and using my Thinkpad more and got nostalgic over old internet and neocities, also I'm trying to learn new languages and more stuff for my CompSci career which has been kinda stuck for the last 4 years so naturally I got back here
