how great was pre 2003? seems like >everyone smoked instead of scrolled >any street could have something cool hidden within it like the early internet >the future wasn't on people's minds but they were optimistic >innovation happening everywhere >no crazed politics in the publics conscious >no redditors

>>49640 9/11 ruined so many things...

>>49640 i really miss the 2020-21 period of the world, back then nobody had any cares. its so amazing that we all got together as a community to stand up to a global pandemic, I feel like the world is never going to unite against a common threat like that ever again. and even when everyone was really really sad, they found ways to cheer themselves up. people were more chill and understanding of one another, and people ended up spending more time together in the pandemic. ironically it feels like people were actually living their lives more while locked inside during a pandemic than outside, really says a lot huh. Everything I just wrote is absolute soykaf and you know it. Try reading your original post again without the rose tinted glasses.

>>49640 Pre-2003 is when they started mass surveilance after 9/11 and when they started the war in Iraq? Was it that time a few years after asian market crash? Like yeah, sure, people had less avenues to fling soykaf at each other without social media but it's not like ot was all sunshine and rainbows. Maybe you should focus less on the negatives and try having a life. I personally began feeling a lot better after I stopped watching political youtube and following the news so closely

>>49710 Yeah, there was still plenty of evil and corruption and broken homes and disputes going on lol. Blacks and whites and mexicans all at odds. Skateboarding was big. Television was HUGE. Eminem was big. There was plenty of good alternative rock and heavy metal. Girls listened to boy bands. For some reason it feels like before the internet music was more of a thing, like it was far more personal and relevant. Society really didn't change that much just because of cell phones and the internet. It really didn't change all that much until like 2016 maybe? As time went on we started noticing kids were addicted to electronics, but it wasn't anything that decent parents couldn't sort out. There was I think a general tolerance of people who are different than you, which has lessened nowadays. Basically everybody was Democrat except for fringe Republicans where I lived. Big Tech is trying to market smart phones as some kind of 'industrial revolution', but I am a bit skeptical of that.

>>49710 >There was I think a general tolerance of people who are different than you, which has lessened nowadays. there were also a lot fewer foreigners in my country. Easier to tolerate some oddballs when they're not running around telling you that in currentyear its their country now. Literally has happened to me. They have to go back. Obviously if you go for some cutoff like this and just say 'stuff was better in 2003' you have to look and try to identify what has changed, and what trajectories and patterns were present in 2003 that lead to currentyear. Certainly a lot has changed, but was it 1997 when William Clinton was talking about how great its going to be when the US is minority white? And the biggest scandal of his career, we're told, was getting sexual favors from his staff.

>>49642 >feel like the world is never going to unite against a common threat like that ever again i think i know what you mean but there was plenty of division back then. I miss the pandemic. >>There was I think a general tolerance of people who are different than you, which has lessened nowadays. >there were also a lot fewer foreigners in my country. Easier to tolerate some oddballs when they're not running around telling you that in currentyear its their country now. Literally has happened to me. They have to go back. also tolerance hadnt been weaponized yet which has made people be less tolerant out of fatigue

>>49714 > I miss the pandemic what how why Do you think things weren't divided then ? From basically the beginning there was huge disagreement about how to handle it, people jumped from 'go hug a chinaman and take him to the cinema' to 'two weeks to stop the spread' and putting cops in front of churches and grocery stores, and if you don't wear a mask and get vaccinated we're going to try to get you fired and removed from polite society because frankly we're generous and the just option would be to kill you. But if you want to go out and protest in a giant crowd about the failed pornstar armed robber drug addict that died then OK I guess that's safe. All throughout the thing, at least where I lived, there was a massive amount of obvious discontent about these lockdown measures combined with a sort of rabid popular enforcement pushed by some small but present fraction of the population. And meanwhile rioters were burning policecars and breaking into businesses downtown, in a mostly peaceful demonstration against injustice.

>>49716 >Do you think things weren't divided then ? I know there was division. That's what my post said. I remember this. That's why I said there was plenty of division. I still miss the pandemic because, for some reason, people love adversity. https://www.sebastianjunger.com/tribe-by-sebastian-junger

>>49717 well look at you proving that I can't read. you must think you're so special, picking on the illiterate. I guess I just found the pandemic somewhat infuriating. Maybe if I'd had more involvement in it I'd have had more fun, but I mostly work from home anyway so it was kinda just watching this sad stupid thing play out in front of me.

The 90s were a juxtaposition of what would be considered extreme conservatism by today's standards and gen x mental retardation/spencer's gifts esque hedonism. I'm 35 and was born in '90 so I know the 90s and 00s very well. Ask me anything. >everyone smoked instead of scrolled No, unless you're referring to cigarettes which in that case it was just degenerates. >any street could have something cool hidden within it like the early internet They still do you're just so brainwashed. Your entire psyche is metaphysically bound to the smart-grid mind control matrix. Try going outside for a walk without any electronic devices on your body and explore the world around you. >the future wasn't on people's minds but they were optimistic No. There were two castes of people, those who wen't the David Icke starchild route and those that embraced The Matrix. People cared more about the future in the 90s and 00s than they do now. >innovation happening everywhere There's still innovation it just requires a deeper understanding of things and the patience to observe and educate yourself on these topics. >no crazed politics in the publics conscious Charles Manson, Timothy Mcveigh, nig violence 24/7, California riots etc. The 90s were actually way worse than now and the modern left is so sensitive they would sudoku immediately if they were time traveld to the 90s. >no redditors I will agree with this. Back in the day hiveminds like imageboards, reddit etc did not exist. The only hiveminds in the US you would encounter were religious. Imagine a time when you could call a nigger a nigger to their face and the only repercussion you'd face is that they would chimp out and attack you, you would still have a job and bank account.

>the future wasn't on people's minds but they were optimistic >no crazed politics in the publics conscious more like pre 9/11 and even then seems like you're seeing it through rose tinted glasses
