Unofficial Lainchan Survey: What's your IQ?

SeaStroke · 2026-05-29 18:15
Hello lainons. What’s your IQ? I’m really curious to see what we’re working with here on lainchan.org. Take a 15-minute test and post a screenshot. https://openpsychometrics.org/tests/FSIQ/ (or share and old score) This is just for fun, so it doesn’t matter if it isn’t a rigorous result.
Erik Johansson · 2026-05-29 18:36
I had my IQ tested when I was a kid in a mental hospital. My mom claims I was 165, I could have swore it was 145. I'm not in a position to take some random IQ test on the internet atm, but that's where I'm at if you believe me, my mom, and/or some random doctors from when I was a kid.

>>49120 mine but I'm really tireed
Demeere · 2026-05-29 21:50
My actual "IQ" is probably around the 100 average within the US. I have below average education so I don't expect anything past 110 in reality.
Case · 2026-05-29 21:58
People who do well on iq tests are little old ladies who do magazine crossword puzzles all day, so not very useful people and it's probably these same kinds of people who make these tests to begin with So it's a chicken egg problem, how do you test the iq of the person who created the first iq test, could've been an old really poor guy who ate cheap canned dog food all day who create that first test lmao
Daan · 2026-05-30 01:29
>>49127 You're imagining a sweet old lady crushing crossword puzzles and thinking that's what high IQ looks like. Totally understandable, but crossword puzzles mostly test stuff you've already learned—like vocabulary, facts, and phrases you've picked up over the years. Real IQ tests (like the WAIS or Raven's matrices) are more about spotting patterns, solving abstract problems on the spot, and holding information in your head while you manipulate it. A crossword whiz might totally bomb on matrix reasoning, and the reverse is true too. So that little old lady? She might be sharp as a tack in her own way, but she's not necessarily the "typical" high-IQ person the tests are designed to catch. Then there's the "not very useful" part. I mean, sure, if you only picture puzzle hobbyists, maybe they're not out there building bridges or coding apps. But a lot of people who score high on IQ tests end up in engineering, medicine, research, software—fields most of us rely on every day. And even if someone just loves puzzles for the joy of it, that's not useless either. Doing something you enjoy isn't the same as being useless. We don't have to measure everything by productivity. Your chicken-egg question is actually kind of fun to think about. But historically, it's not a real paradox. The first modern IQ test was made by a guy named Alfred Binet and his colleague Théodore Simon back in 1905. They weren't trying to test their own intelligence—they wanted to figure out which Parisian schoolkids needed extra help in class. They built the test by trial and error, watching kids, comparing results, and using statistics. No single genius took the test and declared themselves a 160. It was an iterative, team effort over time. So no circle to be found. And I'll admit, the image of some broke guy eating cheap dog food while inventing the first IQ test is hilarious. But it's not what happened. Binet was a psychologist and lawyer who did serious, messy, real-world research. That said, even if a poor person had invented it, so what? Good science stands or falls on evidence, not on whether the inventor ate fancy food. Poverty doesn't make you wrong. Anyway, I'm not saying IQ tests are perfect—they've got real issues with cultural bias and what they leave out. I just think the "crossword grandma" and "chicken-egg" angles aren't the best arguments against them. Happy to keep chatting if you want to dig deeper.

The only official evaluation I saw of mine was on accident but based on just feeling based on comparison (which is what IQ evaluations in essence are) I'm on the border where I'm outside the midwit territory where I have the awareness of my fallibility and am able to reason myself out of the common societal mind traps but also far from true genius so that I can't dance circles around my opponents as I would like. Basically lacking the bliss of ignorance that allows me to blend in with the normal folk but too dumb to be actionable or mask effectively. This is how a pig must feel who physically can't raise their head to gaze into the stars. It's the trouble without the benefit. But since we're here already, for my own amusement I will now estimate the IQ distribution of lainchan: <5% are actual geniuses but they're also likely far on the spectrum so they limit themselves sharing neat bash scripts on lambda or something or mostly lurk or pull a fpbp to a stupid thread and won't bother to elaborate further 20-30% are mid range and can be had a decent and insightful exchange with even on hum The vast majority are sadly midwits, sorry. Either their brain is still maturing or they've reached their peak and solidified false dichotomies into their pathways which they will carry into old age. The former probably comes predominantly from an other image boards or it's their first one while the latter probably found reddit to be not leety/haxxory enough. 10-20% are around average IQ, who simply enjoy the esoteric, schizo and drug content. During soyjak raids this bracket grows temporarily. <5% below average either just for the druggie threads or somehow simply got lost, maybe looking to solve some single basic tech question >>49127 >So it's a chicken egg problem Not really. Of course it has problems and you can game it and train for it but for people who've never taken one before, and we assume basic reading and logic comprehension to be present, a rough estimate of a persons cognitive capacity can be drawn for most cases. People who dismiss tests or the concept of IQ out of hand tend to be IQlets or blank-slaters usually.

>>49142 >retarded threads full of midwit retards. >80iq glitterboys on lainchan lol Did you just spam this in every other thread manually? Looks like you aren't at the top end of the IQ distribution curve either and are down here, licking windows with the rest of us. But this might be a good time to elaborate on what I mean by "midwit". I see it being thrown around more in a way that it begins to lose meaning but it describes a specific type of person who on paper isn't necessarily dumb but tends to arrive, for whatever reason, at conclusions which are of worse quality and practical applicability than those of people either more or less intelligent than them. And while the high IQ take would me more sophisticated and nuanced than the low IQ one, it would still align much more closely to it in essence than the midwit take. The jury is still out on the exact causes, which could be collective compliance masking as intelligence, moving to a "larger pond" after having been the "smart kid" in class and having built their identity around that which is now challenged, genuinely just being over-educated beyond their natural abilities and only being able to regurgitate concepts rather than to being able to think them through to their ultimate conclusion, a general lack of 3rd or even 2nd order thinking or self reflection or awareness, etc. Possibly some mix of those. Naturally a midwit doesn't know they're a midwit, which also does not spare me from the possibility of being one, although I'd like to hear some good evidence first before being called one. Nevertheless an interesting and frustrating phenomenon.

I thought I did really poorly on the spatial memory portions but I got 130. Huh. I am critical of the test, as I felt I was mostly being quizzed on my English language skills and my general familiarity with computers. The first portion is literally just an English vocabulary test, skill at anagrams is closely related to vocabulary, and I noticed that I was much better at the icon memory test when it was an icon I had seen before and knew the meaning of. A person who could not read or rarely reads would need a totally different test if this is meant to measure "innate" intelligence. >>49137 maybe, just maybe, it's just a bored person posting a silly thing for us to waste time on.
SeaStroke · 2026-05-31 16:15
>>49138 I think your distribution is correct, most frequent posters are probably on the midwit to low range tho. >>49147 That's not necessarily true, language is mostly a bunch of rules and vocabulary can be ussed to gleam at a persons pattern recognition. I think the logic for the first set of questions is to give out a common word and then uncommon words that can be associated back to that word, that if the user has never encountered it before they can assign it through pattern recognition. "begginer = greenhorn" for example, of course if 1. you've never seen the common word before or 2. you already know the explicit meaning of the uncommon word it defeats the "pattern recognition gleaming" aspect of it, but if 1 you're probably not scoring high on iq anyway and if 2 you're probably scoring high on the test already. For the anagrams it's the same thing, usually it's anagrams for common words, so you're not expected to unscramble the word filioque.

>>49148 >That's not necessarily true, language is mostly a bunch of rules and vocabulary can be ussed to gleam at a persons pattern recognition Yeah, it can be a decent proxy, but only if a person knows all the vocabulary rules ahead of time. I've studied latin in the past, it's all gone but a lot of the root words and pre/suffixes are still in my head. Someone who only speaks a conversational form of English might not know all those rules or the latin root words, despite being perfectly capable of applying them if they did. Same goes for spelling. It's a bit of an edge case given how this particular test is administered, but still feels like I'm mostly being tested on my level of education rather than any innate intelligence.

most posts are retarded and that's why the vast majority of posters are high IQ. intelligent people create their own theories about everything and turns out, they are not correct. people with high intelligence but low knowledge are the stupidest people there are because they will try to figure stuff out out of nothing. that's why real geniuses are incredibly rare. you need enough intelligence and upbringing that somehow smelts your brain into a cage where it can't just have fun and fall back on hedonism instead. you should be glad you are not genius.
