GOING TO THE MOON First manned flight to the moon in decades just launched from Florida Currently in Earth Orbit and things are looking good for a planned flyby of the Moon. In order to not merely spill the soycalf I assert that this is cool and good and neat.

what are they gonna do there anyways

>>48771 Artemis II is meant to fly around the moon and return to Earth in nine days. They've got an opportunity to photograph a solar eclipse while they fly over the dark side of the moon. Maybe other things too given the opportunity. This isn't meant to be a landing. That is for another Artemis mission scheduled in two years. Its been decades since the first moon landing and now the Chinese program and that assh0le Musk have been catching up. The Chinese program intends to land in four years, so I think NASA wants to re-accomplish that before them. I agree this is a good thing. Anything positive in these current times. Something which reminds humanity of its creative potential.

>the chinese and musk have been catching up catching up to what ? There was a period of years where the US wasn't even able to send a human to space at all, and then a period of years where it was only possible through spacex or Russia. SLS/Artemis is looking like a victory for the ameroeuropean airspace conglomerates, ULA/LockheedMartin/BoeingMcDonneldouglassairbus, who have only launched as of last week two (six now) and recovered zero astronauts since 2011. Meanwhile spacex has launched and recovered how many?

I'm looking forward for the video and photos of them circling the moon once they are there/back. A lot of thoughts run through the mind in days like these... Will they show of the flag and stuff left there? What are the chances they are doing this moon soykaf right now because Ai is finally good enough to fake the whole thing? Is going to the moon in a rocket before WW3 cyberpunk? Will Elon save them if they miss the earth on the return? What if they radio earth with their separatist manifesto and then break all contact?

>>48775 It'd be cool to see the flag, but it would only be possible if they planned ahead to make it happen. Idk about the people that say the first one wasn't real, it's perfectly reasonable to fake a moon landing for propaganda purposes though, but I've never been interested enough to think critically about it, I honestly don't care. However, if they use AI, it will likely come out poorly, I don't believe in them to fake it succesfully, and it'd be very embarrasing, either way I'll sit here comfy and soyksperg about it. The reason I don't think it'd be easy to fake is because they would need to fake the position of the stars, and a dedicated enough team of astronomers could objectively tell if the stars they show are real or not.

>>48775 I dont think they're going near close enough that they'd be able to make out detail of any landing site by eye. We do however have pictures of the landing sites from robotic orbiters. If they miss the Earth I'm no one can save them. That Boeing ship with the stranded Astronauts went to the ISS, to low Earth orbit, which is a stable easy to reach place where they could just hang out long enough for a rescue to be planned and then take place. In Lunar Missions generally everything is moving much faster especially on return and its going to take another rocket of basically the same size to hope to catch them. Plus the basic difficulty of rendezvous, plus the fact that there's only days to arrange the mission. If they break all contact and declare independence then they're just going to die I guess. Personally I don't think its AI and at any rate I know Apollo was real. They flew a successful Orion lunar flyby a few years ago, too.

>>48764 The most important question is, when is there going to be the first sex on the moon? Imagine all the positions you could do in low gravity
