My first thread!!1

Dox · 2025-12-19 10:31
Heyya lainons, this is as it is. I've never been to imageboards before, so I feel somewhat tad bit uncomfortable still, but it's more of my fear of being laughed about. This is an attempt to get things started, felt like 4chan was bad idea for something like this. Basically, I want to talk to people about their first experience and share some of my thoughts too (and share some pictures I consider nice), so feel free to share your own and tell something interesting too!
Naomi Nascimento · 2025-12-19 10:53
And your first reply telling you to lurk moar and how a good thread had to die for this. Also silently questioning and judging OPs sexual orientation.
Y.T · 2025-12-19 11:33
>>47928 This is pretty sad, yeah, but I felt it would be a lot better as first thread than something other! Someone will say this, yeah, but I bet someone other will be sharing my goodwill. Thanks for the reply, though! I am really glad to talk to somebody.

>>47927 >>47929 Lurkmoar can't tell if this is a troll thread or not but fuarrrk I fell for the bait
Spooky · 2025-12-19 21:19
>>47931 This is not, although I understand it quite looks like that. My first intention was simply to speak with people and show some funny stuff I saved, so no trolling or baiting. Maybe I should have made the thread to look more serious, but I lost it when I found this spongebob png.

The Oracle · 2025-12-19 23:44
>>47934 Got this place recommended by a friend as a better alternative if I'd ever want to spend some time by reading interesting threads, heard people there are far less degenerative than they usually are. The whole point of being here is simply to talk to others and discuss something, because I don't talk with people outside my computer, that's why I am practically enjoying every reply I get! And what about you?
Vasya Pupkin · 2025-12-20 00:15
>>47927 >I've never been to imageboards before when you post a new thread, the thread that was least recently bumped is deleted. As such, making low quality threads is discouraged, especially on slow boards/chans such as lainchan. lurk moar.

>>47936 Thanks for providing the explanation! I will do better in the future and won't post any low quiality thread from now on! As for this one, if it's already created then I see no point in dismissing the opportunity to use it as I intended.

>>47927 lurk moar, op is gay lol, good thread died for this, etc. welcome new blood! you will find delightful threads here such as: - underaged existentially anxious teenagers word vomiting together in catharsis like ye old emo boys slicing their wrists to their favorite pop punk or thrash metal tracks - esoteric, schizophrenic and often drug-induced ramblings of things man was not meant to comprehend - and, tech or science talk. maybe the best and most informative part of this place, that and the math. the best anons are always autistic yet self-aware of course theres threads about anime and manga and other stuff like that, like any other nerd site. also the word filter is esoteric. you will be forced to read about kicking beaches down whales at least 15 times a day. if you dont know, word filters are filters for words. it started years ago in many places across the web as a funny prank on pottymouths, and ever since, it's a tradition to implement the same system in places like this. at some point, you WILL write a well thought out and articulated post, only to hit post and find a lil window will pop up calling you a spammer and forbidding you from contributing to the conversation further. also, flood detected. some advice, avoid opening the landing page showing you recent images in public. there is an asshat spamming CP who will ruin your day and your reputation among your peers if they see that stuff on your screen. enjoy!

>>47943 >>47940 >doing the basic stuff like watch lain and install linux If you're new to IB's learn how to archive stuff. Stitching together screenshots, saving the thread as .html, some other method nobody cares how but eventually something cool will pop up and you'll want to save it either because you don't trust the mods (as nobody should) or because you'll want to enjoy it later after the thread dies. Also please don't add to the dead internet in that you're just here to look for cool stuff instead of creating something. It can be a şhitty neocities webpage where you post a comic series just pay it forward with literally any creative effort as well as just being a kind lainon with thought out posts once you get the hang of things. Also always copy your entire message before clicking 'Post' in case it's arbitrarily considered spam. This site doesn't save what you've typed when it does this. >>47943 What's the saying?, If my life's a joke it might as well be a funny one.
Aristóteles Amadópulus · 2025-12-20 18:20
if you have never used imageboards you should be aware that people often get hacked if i were you i would take precautions....do something like only visit imageboards websites with a liveOS (perhaps combined with mobile hotspot), so even if you get hacked nobody can acquire any data and cannot save any malicious code to your Hard Drive....there is such a thing as images that look harmless when you download them but secretly contain malicious code (any one of our works of cool anime art or dank memes could be suspect) often you will hear the "old users" (OG's) say you should use Torbrowser...even if you visit an obscure imageboard website that does not hack you, somebody could still take advantage of it from somewhere obscure like Pakistan and steal data about users, especially if they are paid by an anonymous corporate agent in your local area to do so having said that, it comes with risks but truly the culture and content and philosophy and intelligent conversations on imageboards are probably worth it, you just have to be careful and practice safety. but may you connect with many thoughtful souls, anon
Cat Mother · 2025-12-20 18:28
furthermore i'd add that supernatural forces are often at work in any online social space, and because there are so many unknowns involved in internet social conduct, like anonymity and much more....the malicious spirits have a much easier time confusing people and turning people against eachother and tricking people and all manner of mischief there is also such a thing as "internet psychosis" that could possibly happen from reading too many dope threads. that is a real thing, perhaps it has something i do with information overload or looking at the screen too much but some individuals develop internet psychosis (i've had it in the past...)

>>47945 >needing a live usb to access a imageboard This is absolute paranoia, I don't really think that someone needs to go that far when simply accessing a imageboard.
Pulse · 2025-12-20 20:35
>>47945 >the culture and content and philosophy and intelligent conversations on imageboards are probably worth it From what I've seen the posts on lainchan clump to a cluster of somewhat insightful, mid and "moronically intelligent" where you can tell the user probably went to and passed uni but clearly did not possess the second order thinking to realize the debt trap they put themselves in, while on somewhere like 4chan it's 90% just absolute bottom of the barrel I have pretended to be retard for so long I have forgotten how to exit and also glowie bots. the remaining 90% are genuine reasonable conversation, maybe less and then the very occasional 200IQ poster dropping a wisdom. Funny how these distributions work and I wonder about the social mechanics behind it. >>47948 They might be still up on youtube. Jdownloader2 works well. ARCHIVE EVERYTHING
Bob Arctor · 2025-12-20 22:45
>>47951 NTA Imageboard conversations can be insightful because you can just post whatever you like and it either stays or gets deleted, you don't have to watch your karma or check from multiple proxies to see whether you got shadowderezzed for a no-no comment. People are much more skeptical about the intent of a poster on imageboards. Compare that to tech subreddits and hackernews which are astroturfed very easily and are just AI blogpost aggregators at this point.
Liet Kynes · 2025-12-20 22:55
>>47948 >to watch lain serial experiment I'm sure I just got it off some public torrent site
Cutter · 2025-12-20 23:23
>>47952 Yeah I get that. The Reddit/Stack system is a consensus machine by design. Works great for easy verifiable tech questions, but is conformity cancer for pretty much everything else. The only way to test more subjective or even controversial ideas and compare notes in a sane and safe way is only possible on pseudoanonymous forums like these. Without some loon who can't separate their emotions from someone just examining different views and frontier concepts spending their lack of life to declare you their mortal enemy and stalk you. Anime image boards genuinely could be instrumental in saving mankind, at least from rotten paradigms. Which is possibly why glowies need to spam the unredacted images from Uncle E's files on here. But I was wondering more about the type of users aggregating here and engaging with threads and discussions. Obviously this selects for a certain type of person. But sometimes it feels rather barren and apathetic. Or you have some lost bunkerchan freak spilling their soykaf. Meanwhile on p0l I would occasionally spot the rare giga IQ post but ofc within a flood of sh*t and sh*lls.Maybe it's just the number of frequent users, with outliers being much more rare. But it gets ronery when your effort post doesn't get YOUs. Or I just need to have faith that it sticks with enough lurkers. Meme magic after all is real in a way and they hate it.

>>47951 >while on somewhere like 4chan it's 90% just absolute bottom of the barrel Yeah that's basically the reason I didn't even thought about creating a thread on that imageboard after some lurking, got the same feeling you share. Before, I always had unfounded opinion that people who use 4chan are rather really thoughtful and don't mostly do really dumb mistakes in their logic. But oh well, got reminded once again it's better not to make haste in such things and do experience something personally. Feeling really dumb about being too lazy to do some basic search to form at least my own mind until that moment. >>47943 If I am staying here forever it means it's worth all my time, though need to watch lain at least or I'll feel guilty. I started browsing 4chan in 2017 at the age of 16, I wanted a place to escape from the world and bitch about people I found annoying like hardcore american liberals My main board at the time was /b/ and I ended up in trap threads which was how I found out I was bisexual I kinda falling out with 4chan, it seems like the sharty lowered the average channer's IQ So I'm kinda a refugee to altchans
The Fin · 2025-12-23 21:13
>>47967 serial experiments lain is actually pretty dope i haven't watched more than the first episode because i only tried once when i was younger and never tried again, but not that i am older i have a more expanded awareness and consciousness for good art and that sort of thing it is definitely worth watching because it is a rather short anime, yet which explores very deep, intelligent concepts. >>48083 I agree with you - to an extent. Yes, that's the standard imageboard etiquette since a lot of time gone by, but at the same time I question the premise of modern day imageboards requiring an extensive period of familiarization or enculturation with a board's culture (apart from the default minimum expectations which rest upon the notion of showing some common decency towards each other as we engage in a verbal logomachy and technology-assisted social intercourse with our fellow [insert chan-specific term for said IB's regular user]), for there no longer seems to be much of culture to which to enculture and acquaintance oneself with to begin with. Undeniably all IBs have lost a lot of their cultural distinctiveness over the years. That is ecause the most dedicated posters who originally created the culture out of passion have left and, as a result, the boards have lost their og cultural gate-keepers. The vacuums left behind are then filled with those who love to manage things out of fandom, but don't really know what made the thing-itself good initially. So, rather than develop the culture organically, they try to preserve it, which leaves the culture stale, ossified, and, soon after, little more than a funny quirk or gimmick that "comes with the board" rather than "being of the board", if you see what I'm saying. This, ultimately, leads to the cultural ossification, museum-ification, and same-ification where the culture of an IB gradually blends in with every other IB out there, with the sole distinction of surface-level aesthetics and an almost unnoticeable emphasis on certain themes in discussions occurring on the board. One thing that might fix this current state of affairs is an imageboard renaissance: replacing the managers with enthusiastic experiments willing to do things differently (but with good taste), and the creators of the source material (or their faithful interpreters) breathing new air into the fan culture by successfully building on their legacy with new cultural creations. Now we're all just living digital fossils, awaiting here for the arbiters of Fortuna to cut us out of the Great Link and let our lifeforces dissipate into the void like an echo of a water droplet on the surface of a secret, cobalt-dark forest pool of Finlandia...
Nell · 2026-01-03 05:29
>>48083 Thanks for explanation, but I pretty much understood that myself. You see, I am really tired from all the drama happening whatever I say, in my real life and now in the internet too all the time. I share my opinion and someone simply begins to think I wanted to offend them because they have different ideas or any other fuarrrking reason to act like an crazy ape, defending their ideals or whatever. So I decided to went to IBs. They sort out some soykafty people and anons there possess the ability not to go bananas from mere sentences. So I get it as much and do realize people here give more of an advice than being offensive. Not to mention that this thread is pretty much of low-quality and lurking will simply help to create better threads next time.
