I have never learnt from my parents how to take care of myself and for a vast period of my time, I simply ignored it altogether. I now realize the consequences of my neglect regarding both my physical shape (I am basically anorexic) and mental health (social isolation inducing anxiety) : all in all it was naive of me to think I could go on my own without falling into decrepitude. This brings us to the following question : how does one (as a grown up adult) learn to take care of themselves and where should they start ?

better to be anorexic that morbidly obese Creatine, multivitamins, rice, beans join a discord server about something you're interested in and join voice chat. Being alone isn't a problem feeling alone is. Literally talking to ChatGPT could make you feel better or at least practice you're social skills before hand. Read about the news / latest scientific development and practice explaining it such that you have something to say during small talk.

Fake it until you make it, lain. Learn simple food recipes like pasta, roasted chicken and veggies, and rice and beans. Go to the same coffee shop and make small talk with the barista. The first basic spheres you should focus on are: health (mental and physical), relationships (friends, family, love), and finances (learn the basics of saving and investing). Mastering these 3 spheres you will be ahead of many other so called 'functioning' adults. And reiterating my first point, don't be afraid. Accept your anxiety, but don't be ruled by it. Fake it until you make it.

>>47713 >my physical shape (I am basically anorexic) this one is easy to fix. in order: 1) eat more + better rice, beans, greens, meat. we have a recipe thread already i believe, so check that out. cousin luke's website has some decent recipes (based.cooking iirc) 2) cardio go outside and hike. hiking is good for your heart and soul. jogging is for rats. 3) strength grab a copy of the prison breakout bodyweight guide, it's somewhere on here. it aint perfect, but the beginner exercises are ideal for a lanklet. >mental health (social isolation inducing anxiety) this one is trickier, so i'll defer to other lains probably get a hobby and talk to people with that hobby is a good way to start hobby-forums full of friendly oldf4gs can be useful for this

>>47713 For social hobbies it depends. If you're still decently attractive then take some dance classes. If you're unattractive then join some board game clubs in the area. If you're young and still have time to improve before it's too late then get into martial art classes. If you're smart autistic then join a makerspace where you can just tinker around with whatever you want. Then after a few weeks of that get a style or fashion that you like and show up to your local town social events in the area and chat up some people around your age. You explain to them your hobbies and what you do with your life and your interests. Then if you like them then get their number from mutual interest and ask them to go to another event with you.

>>47722 >You explain to them your hobbies and what you do with your life and your interests Not OP, but how do I even begin to explain to normal people that I'm a hikikomori who spends most of his time watching cartoons from a foreign country?

>>47729 you don't realize the majority of people are subject to weird predilictions which they're likely even unaware of, still less disclosing to each other. being an anime enthusiast is rather benign by comparison. there shouldn't be any reason to mention that while playing the society game. for that matter, you could attend anime conventions, duh.

OP here >>47714 >better to be anorexic that morbidly obese One is not necessarily better than the other. I have literally no energy, I can't run for a long period and above all I feel like an incomplete individual regarding physical capabilities (not to mention my clumsiness). >join a discord server about something you're interested in and join voice chat. Discord might be one the worst places to find like-minded communities. Feel free to try it yourself if you don't believe me. LLMs might be easier to converse with in practice but they don't really reflect the social aspect of human conversations. When you're talking to someone else, you inevitably get attentive to people's reactions, the way they respond to your own contribution to the discussion, which in turn defines your sense of self-validation among your peers. This is how nature and evolution has encouraged us since the dawn of times to form relations with others and loneliness is just yet another constant reminder that I am not having a normal lifestyle. LLMs are irrelevant to the practice of social skills because you don't get to train the ability to endure social pressure. >>47716 >Learn simple food recipes like pasta, roasted chicken and veggies, and rice and beans. It is just so embarrassing when you are an adult... As a freshman student I live with roommates and getting them to see how incompetent I am with basic cooking is already a challenge. Not to mention my lack of social skills and the way I systematically shelter in my room, perhaps to forget about the daily humiliation of having to the outside world. >Mastering these 3 spheres you will be ahead of many other so called 'functioning' adults. I couldn't agree more on this. In the end, those 3 principles are the only things that really matter. >And reiterating my first point, don't be afraid. Accept your anxiety, but don't be ruled by it. Fake it until you make it. How do people manage to be this good at faking ? >>47717 Before moving out to a cosmopolitan environment for college, I used to live in a mountainous region with a beautiful surrounding wilderness and I remember how it positively affected my mindset. There is no beauty in megalopolis, just machines and busy people. I bought a recipe book in order to try out cooking and I'll see how it goes from there. >probably get a hobby and talk to people with that hobby is a good way to start I already have good friends online but close to no one in the real world. Even my own family feels like complete strangers to me. >>44722 I met someone that seems to like me but I just can't process how. Every time I look at my appearance in a mirror, I instantly get nauseous and yet someone seems to find me attractive. Honestly, it feels like a bad joke, as if someone out there was trying to set me up or something. In all fairness, I have grown up quite insecure regarding my appearance and everything that revolves around it (fashion etc.) My parents once forced me to practice some chinese martial art when I was a kid and it didn't really out well in the end as it progressively became a weekly humiliation ritual. I am not smart but I think I am a relatively curious person (to the extent of finding an interest in pretty much in any field of study). >You explain to them your hobbies and what you do with your life and your interests. Then if you like them then get their number from mutual interest and ask them to go to another event with you. People of my age are superficial at best and absolutely obnoxious at worst. It sounds like I am picky and insufferable but on the other hand, should I really prefer social connections over loneliness even if that's all fake ?

>>47742 >It is just so embarrassing when you are an adult... As a freshman student I live with roommates and getting them to see how incompetent I am with basic cooking is already a challenge. Lain, try hard not to place so much importance on embarrassment. One of the best skills you can develop in life is to accept embarrassment, maybe even laugh with it. Accept that learning how to cook as an adult is a bit embarrassing, but do you want to be unable to feed yourself forever? Destroy your ego and your spotlight problem. Your roommates are not going to care that you have to learn how to cook. Let's entertain the worst case scenario; they DO care in the moment! They make fun of you. None of you - I mean NONE of you - are going to give a fuarrrk about this buffoonery in 10, 5, 1 years. It will be a blip on your life. But what you will care about and value is the fact that you know how to cook up a good meal! It is worth the potential embarrassment. I have faith in you lainon, you can do it <3 >How do people manage to be this good at faking ? Practice makes perfect. What I personally do is spend time thinking about the sort of person I WANT to be, not who I currently am. And a detailed idea, at that. Not just generic "I want to be confident," crap - how do I want to engage with people, what do I find appealing in people, how do I want to emulate that? Then, when I'm out and about or on my lonesome I put those ideas of the ideal me into practice. I try it on. Maybe it's not "really" me yet. But it is a positive spiral upward to *try* and be your ideal self. The more you do it, the more confident you will feel.

>>47742 >should I really prefer social connections over loneliness even if that's all fake Social Isolation is very bad for you lainanon. Pretty much the 99% cause of all the soykaft degeneracy you see today. Remember authority want you isolated and starved because it makes you easier to control. The best way to rebel is through self improvement and social connection. Even if it's fake initially friendships often take hundreds of hours of consistency to form. Just keep showing up to structured events you genuinely enjoy that happens to have people there. That is one of the best ways to rebel.
