how do you deal with this emptiness
SarAndSam · 2025-07-05 13:03
I feel so empty and alone even though I have friend, no issue in my life but I don't know why I feel this way.
I know I can just walk outside, read or just think about something else but I feel like I have to do this every single time.
I'm tired of always have to distract myself just so that I don't feel this emptiness, why can't I just live ?

have you tried making art?
not just drawing, but things like modeling, music, sculpture, animation, painting and/or photography, etc...

No I don't do art, I want to try writing but I'm too lazy to start.
Right now I do programming, it helps take my mind elsewhere but the thing is I'm tired of always having to think about something else.
It's like when you have to recharge the battery of your phone every 30 minutes.

Simple. You need to do work for other people. Work on programs that other people actually use, for example.
Usually this is formal employment, but doesn't have to be.

Get a social hobby, a friend group, and a relationship. Build long-term satisfying projects. If that doesn't work then do drugs.

The thing with social interaction is that I don't know how to be myself, around others I feel like im playing a character, I only show a part of me and it makes me more disconnected from other.
I know it's my fault, I just have to stop being scared of judgment and just be myself.
What helps me right now is to not feel empty is to be more connected to the real world, to nature and I hope in the future to other people.

don't be yourself, you sound boring. try to figure out someone interesting and fun and whom you'd like to talk to and admire and be him instead

You can't hit a point where everything is permanently alright. You must keep improving no matter what. Your brain will not let you be permanently content unless it's a broken pos. You have to find something that you can improve without it being too much of a time sink. Try exercise. Walking/running is great to improve your mobility and allow you to go places you otherwise might not. Pushups are good for a quick fix against the discontentment.

even if I'm annoying I rather be myself than another person, I prefer an honest dickhead than a fake good person. I'm probably saying nonsense I dont know how to portray what I think.

I know but I don't see myself as a whole, I will sound like a schizophrenic but often I see myself as multiple people
When I feel empty/sad I have the impression my only purpose is to be sad.
In the same way I don't see myself from the past as me and same for myself in the future.
I think that's why I feel so empty even though I often feel happy, it's because I have the impression of playing two different character.

I do it by pushing that feeling into a deep pit into my soul and only allowing it out when I am ready to deal with the pain (or I'm wasted).
Try meditation if you don't have any real issues causing this feeling. Chances are there is a trauma in your past that's causing it.

i know how you feel
sometimes the hardest thing is you have to face it to overcome it

That's very true! One thing a person said to me was stick to nice things and ignore the troubles you have :)

Maybe you feel empty inside because you're unconsciously suppressing, postponing and neglecting something deep inside yourself that needs to be taken care of? Some need you're not entirely conscious of? Some calling, purpose, passion, grand project? And not some "project" for the sake of staying busy and forgetting your worries, something you truly care about but too scared to engage with because of how serious it is? It is okay. But finding out that crucial thing, that stumbling block, might help untie that mental knot inside your mind and heart. So that you an breathe again.

wow he's literally just like me
I'd say chores help a bit, when I feel like doing nothing and just lying on my bed I remember that I have to
>clean my room and kitchen
>cook something to eat
>buy some groceries
>do soldering and ThinkPad's maintenance etc
key is you don't think about all that, you set up a trigger like "if (feels_sad_man.jpg) { do_chores(); }" and start working immediately
yeah sounds like distracting again but really if you don't think and just do it why not
I feel much better after making some pancakes at 4AM and seeing sunrise before sleep, for example

Find a soul-mate. Start a family. That's what your mind and body are telling you.

I feel the exact same way. It's as if something is wrong with me, but I can't for the life of me figure out what it is
