Welcome newfriends :) This chan is definitely a more laidback chan. It's not as fast as other chans but I kind of like it's slow(ish) nature so I can go about my day and come back to see new posts. I hope you guys have a cozy time. >>44851 Quality in posts are required but it's not as enforced depending on the subject matter of the thread from what I could tell. A good example would be this thread where you could basically just say "hi" and go about your day, or the more common "how do I make an imageboard" thread that pops up multiple times a year. The OP of those threads typically don't share what they have already tried or ask more elaborate questions to create a quality post. They then get a warning. >>44840 Other than the /g/ or /a/ crowd, I would say a lot of people who are interested in the cyberpunk """culture/lifestyle""" or similar stuff. Be descriptive, write more. Specify what you mean and take the time to format the text then prune useless bits, spare the effort to make your post a good read for it might be visible long into the future. Someone who's done nothing but post on 4chink's big boards might discover that his posting habits were conditioned for fast reply, wired to run his fingers as soon as he sees a post, brain fried and that he can't easily stop writing short vague soykaf. My unconscious mind is apparently very influential, and I drag everything that enters my conscious frame along with me merely by existing. But it's damaged, there is a defect at the core, and an infinite wellspring of rage. There are two types of anger. So the world tends to torture me enough to charge me up like a high voltage capacitor, then it tries to trick me into draining it into a target. The physical body is also damaged, and while it was being tortured endlessly the mind was also damaged. And finally, having become 30, the machinery I used to keep myself out of the body and the mind, so I could sort of spread myself across the Earth like a cloud and move things around like puppets, has fallen apart. Self destructed. I was sucked back in, fuarrrkin' crushed back into the body, and I felt it happen all at once. Altchans have always been and will always be better than 4chan. The only advantage that 4chan had over any other site or home is the fact that it was heavily populated by a huge swathe of people, and covered countless topics that many many other sites simply don't. Boards like /tg/, /pw/, /xs/, /qst/, etc. no longer have a home that isn't overmoderated Reddit-tier trash. It's ultimately a good thing that 4chan is gone, and although I will always miss it, it's probably a good thing that nobody can waste their time idly scrolling through those streets any more. Hopefully with the rediscovery of high quality places like this and several other altchans, the general health of anonymous discussion on the internet will rise, and the human soul can escape the plasticine shell of Channel 4. As these places are repopulated, perhaps we may enter a new age of fruitful futures and the rediscovery of what the "old internet" means in an age of dissolution and anger. We need only try, and we need only maintain an even hand.

I'd rather have lower post volume but higher quality posts. There's definitely a Catch 22 problem. No one wants to contribute to a dead altchan - but without more contributors, no new users will be attracted. This is the first time I've seen any altchans have big traffic increases. It will be interesting to see how it plays out and which ones take off.

>>45085 i think the question to ask is whether you're treating it like your personal diary or not. its not wrong to talk about 「deep subjects」, or your thought process, but, sometimes these things are better if you ask first. you can indicate how something makes you feel simply by saying things like "it feels as if" and "it felt / made me feel __" in seemingly-appropriate scenarios, like reactions to media - if you do not use an i-statement in this context, i get the feeling that the "i" is already implied. also, you can form your thoughts in the form of a question, but make sure it is a genuine question instead of something like "does anybody else get thirsty". this is how i communicate, though. there is no right or wrong way and it is anonymous imagboard with comfy mods anyhow. the worst that can happen is someone chooses not to read the rest of your post because of a mistake. and it is their loss if they ignore the better content of it. anyways, welcome back to lainchan! if you need immedate dopamine rush alternative to 4chan you can maybe look at libpol meguca instance. live boards are interesting but i like lainchan more >>45042 people dont choose solipsism. they become self-absorbed due to alienation and such.

>>45085 I was the poster that >>45042 replied to. I encountered, and myself developed, this "look at how much I and me you use, and how every sentence starts with I". Now known as a subset of "pronoun density" within "prose analysis". Alternate forms include "replace I with you", do what you noted and conscious try to omit self reference, which generally results in what you described as well as a sort neurosis that turns your ground state into truncated speech. Truncation blends well into "mindfulness" and "timelessness", ie stripping the great yod he, the I AM, from "I am going out", rendering it "going out", removing the self reference, is sort of like removing the self or the reflection. It's odd getting all these sorts of responses, 'cause apparently I've heard it all and done it all. I deconstructed and destroyed the self, I looked in the mirror and saw nothing but a vague shape I didn't comprehend, I saw no reflection in anything or anyone, I was like a ghost. My "I" was, is, in the world, but not of the world. I could search the entire world and never find the origin of perception, just like you could search an entire dream world and never find your body asleep in bed. So, yeah. There are pitfalls to everything people suggest. Stripping pronouns and trying to communicate the absolute, rather than in terms of internal state or relative terms, usually leads to one of the "there is only the present" mindfulness cults. And whenever someone tries to hold this over me, as that poster did, I know that perspective was transplanted into them. It was not grown from seed, they don't know what they're relaly saying.

>>45363 sharty is boring because there is no real discussion; their other board is instagram reels, so conveying nothing comes natural. for some reason their humour is almost identical to that of object show communities and pizza tower fans. is the one and only soyjak.party a heckin' dark and evil com grooming operation? to any parents reading this, please monitor your childrens' online activities.

I'm sorry, but why are you laying in bed with a CRT monitor? Don't you have cushions to rest your head onto or hug? But yeah, he looks cool. I wish I had him. I remember looking into a big CRT TV when I was around 3 years old. I liked laying my palm on it and feeling the static electricity every time, because it felt funny. I wonder if that was responsible for my character development..

I am kind of going through 4chan withdrawals, I don't think I really used it that much but yet I feel like it's absence has left some type of void in my life. I mostly liked soykaf posting on bant and avoided serious discussions because it usually wasn't in a manner I found meaningful enough. The topics on 4chan are kind of circular and repeat quite a lot. Like endless topics about religion that seemed inherently schizo, like making completely poposterous connections between different subjects that you wonder how anyone could reach those conclusions let alone spend all that time thinking about. And then all the topics about race in general, like the nonstop topics about black people stealing white women, white demographic statistics etc. But yet, despite how ridiculous much of the posting was, there was still a kind of wholesomeness to it, that is completely lacking on sites like the sharty. That being said there's not that much to miss and it's probably a really bad thing that I miss 4chan. I really need to get out of this situation I'm in basically.

>>45377 They're committing slow-suicide. They can go and talk to a woman and actually start a family but they are either too ugly or too autistic for that. I'm not saying I'm different either, but our coping mechanism is different. I waste my time all day scrolling and lurking calmly without drama and others spend their time lurking on there, cursing and fighting all time.

>>45378 I secretly want the power grid to go off so I can just sit back, watch, and enjoy the show. 4chan going offline is one of the best things to happen. Hopefully we see a massive die off of online platforms - would be amazing. I also secretly hope everyone loses their job to AI, economy crashes, covid 2.0 - would be chef's kiss.

>>45377 It's doing a bit of the same thing with me too. I miss /g/ and /v/, hell even /gif/. But it's also given me a really healthy detox in a way. Lainchan is the first alt-chan I thought of going to and the civility feels so fresh. If 4chan comes back I don't know if I would go back to it at this rate.
Hououin Kyouma · 2025-04-20 20:20
>>45377 I'm definitely missing some of the boards on ol' 4chan, but not as much as I'd thought I would. Besides, being here is helping me focus on programming and tech stuff which is what I was procrastinating when browsing 4chan. If it does come back up, I'll be weary to get sucked back in that vortex, but I probably will just to browse the few boards I found a kinship in.

>>45363 I really like Lainchan, it is so much more chill and relaxed compared to 4chan. People seem much more laid back here also. It's like wandering into a small quaint little village after living in a huge city.

>>45397 you say this yet since fourchan is down it makes me feel like a country bumpkin who's town has just been filled with a crazy number of cityfolk zipping around. Its so much faster and busier! Sure we've got the birthday celebrations and Easter and the dawn of the Revolution all going on at once but this is still quite the commotion. Welcome new folks but please mind your manners

>>44836 I actually used to part time lurk lainchan as it always reminded me of a better, slower /g/, before it turned against free software land everything freedom. I have to tell you that I'm glad I have somewhere to discuss lisp and emacs in these trying times.
Batou · 2025-04-21 00:30
I've been to a wide variety of obscure altchans (some you probably don't even know about) and I must say that Lainchan is the best altchan of them all. The amount of user activity on lainchan isn't too little, and the quality of posts is much higher than any of them too. lainchan deserves more attention.

>>44975 >suspicion that later down the line lainchan would become soykaf as a result if mods do their job well then unproductive posts and spam should be filtered and site rules, and by extent board culture should be enforced. if that's not enough for you however, there's still bluesky >>44977 >>45409 personally I don't mind the theater kids here. they do open new threads more frequently but I've observed here to be a silent demographic of much wiser lurkers who will tell them how stupid and naive it is what they just posted, and why. this isn't bunkerchan. but I like to have some of them here so I can sanity check my own ideas. image boards are imo the last remaining places of an actual opposite of an echo chamber (doesn't matter what reddit says since it never mattered). an anti hug box. a hurt box, so to speak. and I cant find any other place like that really. especially with how my thoughts evolved and how public squares and social media have failed us all as a society but if you know any other place where you truly can discuss random but deep cutting ideas without it turning into fart huffing, I'm all ears
Canadian Lumberman · 2025-04-21 15:59
Howdy! 4chan refugee here. I forgot this place existed. to be honest, im kinda happy 4chan got axed cause it gives me a chance to explore sites that aren't trash. Anyone else use Omnichan to browse Lainchan? That's the app I found this site through but it ain't letting me post. Says my request looks automated. Anyone else have this issue?(Take that sort of question to /q/, but if you are phone posting, lots of phone apps don't have the correct logic to handle the flood or spam filters properly, I know I have found some clients that do , but others don't.)

>>45447 Kuroba works. >>45400 Same here. I stopped browsing /g/ for a while and my enthusiasm for lisp died off, but I forgot that we have really good threads about it here on Lainchan. The other place I used to go for Lisp discussion was textboard.org but that seems to be long defunct. >>45145 I'm a big fan of this artwork and I think I remember seeing it posted before on here. I've usually browsed the tech boards and just checked this one to see what you guys were saying about 4chan, and I've never seen so many mod edits. Is this common here?

>>45641 It will be like what happened when 8chan shut down. I came and posted here for a while, got bored and moved over to 4/g/. /hum/ is the main reason I like lainchain, but there's never enough content to make me more than a vacationer. I'm well beyond lain's target demographic of 20 year old college students learning about woo woo for the first time, and the topics I'd actually like to discuss aren't really new or interesting so I don't bother to make threads. If I seriously made a vim or NixOS thread, would people post in it? Or if I talk about how bots infest the top most layers of the internet would people really care because its a trite discussion that's been had before? Most days I just like to consume content, and lainchan doesn't have the post velocity to provide me a carrot most days. This could be changed as long as we keep this level of activity because i enjoy the non-AI non-gacha brain rot posting that this site provides.
Cat Mother · 2025-04-24 19:09
>>45643 >if i made a vim or nixos thread would people post in it? check the catalog. emacs threads are a staple, i don't see why we can't have a vim thread if one doesn't already exist even. nixos discussion seems fine as long as the OP actually has some info too. >how bots infest the top layer of the internet there's plenty of threads about this already and there is very little of quality in any of these threads. i would suggest making a meaningful, technically-supported argument in them if you do contribute, if you don't have anything technical or meaningful to add and just want to stoner techbro talk about AI or whatever else then perhaps not
