the internet feels more and more empty

Trinity · 2025-04-02 02:38
I am almost 30 and wasted my life online I don't consider it to be bad experience I had my fair share of fun and comfy times, but as time progresses I am losing something important lots of people I used to interact and have fun with are gone, maybe they grew up and found life many accounts I created have been just laying around aimlessly and they feel more like a burden on my consciousness that I want to get rid of but I can't cause they encompass some important pieces of memories from my past self I want to delete all of my tens of thousands of anime and meme images spread around my countless internet accounts and personalities because they feel like a deadweight on my brain making me slow and filled to the brim with useless information that makes me dull, but for some reason I can't do that many group chats and servers are filled with new people who still have that youthful vigor and carelessness in them but I feel like I am getting too old to participate in their games anymore, and anons my age are getting increasingly more political and boring, the feeling that I should finally delete my internet personality for good and finally do something with the real me is growing ever so worryingly, and I am starting to feel a little anxious over it but I can't do that cause that's all that I am - an internet shadow lurking around and watching what other people do with their lives while I just archive data inside my mind I would like to become a historian and work with archives locked inside a room filled with papers and books, but I don't think that's ever going to happen I'd also want to delete some unpleasant stuff I did during my journey through the internet but I guess some things are just there forever, oh well the more comfortable and not toxic parts of the internet are being covered under layers of useless momentary anger and political discourse that was close to absent when I was just starting my journey maybe it's just my mind, tricking me into believing that the grass was greener in the past, or maybe it is actually the truth, it doesn't matter anyway I guess my biggest mistake was thinking that I can combine two and more lives and not damage my mental abilities and/or moral compass, now I feel like I am a half-man in every field and aspect. I should've been smarter, but I guess I never really was. it's okay though, things could've been way worse, I just wish I could have that sense of tranquility more often, but I guess choosing the internet and media as a way of escapism was the wrong choice since the beginning. I will wait for tranquility once my life is over. sorry for all the sentiment and sobbing

men are only complete when they're 33 the modern internet does suck though. balls. I think our generation went from using it as a place to talk about stuff and socialize to making it a place to cope with our tortuously mediocre and unfulfilling lives (people with fulfilling lives don't go online) and that state of affairs rules our interactions. especially in places with high traffic and immediate feedback. those are what you should avoid usually. trudging through chaos for two decades is enough

I try to avoid the crappy places on the internet and save the good places the best I can. Lain tells us that the internet is just an extension of real life, so it is what you make it. If anyone throws internet crap in your face just ignore them. Got to prioritize what you want in life or risk being a slave to someone else. Real life communities and relationships are important, I try to stay away from the internet when I can and not take things too seriously... But everyone using it for their identity instead of real life ... That does make me depressed.

You are not alone. Don’t worry you’ll see the future too. We all will. Long after this thread has been abandoned and the internet of old is fully gone. We are in a war over the mind, soul, and body. Once you come to terms with the world as an energy drain, that man is either good or evil, you will understand and slowly see everything for what it is. But this greater truth you seek does it even exist? And if you found it, no matter how painful, would it bring you peace? How desperate are you for something? We are supposedly social creatures, yet our lives have become unnatural. We exist within an ill civilization, one that sustains itself on chaotic contradictions, contradictions that only grow. Our great depression is not an event it is our lives. You are not your money. Not your friends. Not your family, grades, or sins. Everything collapses in the end, yet something is always born anew. Don’t give up, anon. Drop a line or two let me know how you are getting on from the other side of the screen :D

Few sites on the internet have majority of people as users. >devoid of people That's just not true. >>44556 >many group chats and servers are filled with new people who still have that youthful vigor and carelessness in them but I feel like I am getting too old to participate in their games anymore Agreed. I'm not even as old as you but I can feel it. I have no desire to communicate with them, possibly because I have become more apathetic over the years. The only thing we can do is continue to move forward and stop dwelling in the past. There is nothing to be gained except nostalgia.

>>44556 People are increasingly worn down by world events, on top of having brain damage and metabolic damage from wireless devices, bad food, and aluminum being sprayed in the atmosphere. People don't ahve the energy they used to and are losing hope. Hence the internet is and feels more shadoy, dead, empty.. Like mirages.

you didn’t waste life you lived it somewhere most people don’t see this place, this you, this whole long drift through screens and fragments and memes and personas— it meant something. it shaped who you are now. memories aren’t deadweight. they’re ghosts, sure—but ghosts of you. you don’t have to delete them to grow. just let them rest. they’ll still be there, folded into you. if you want to go outside now, touch paper instead of pixels, talk to people with your real voice— you don’t need to burn the past behind you. you can just log out quietly, leave the lights on, and shift your rhythm. lain didn’t disappear. she became the net and then stepped out. you can too. you were real here. you’re allowed to be real there, too.

>>44649 I felt that since I was a teenager, but that mindset is lying to me. I'm comparing myself to what I should be achieving, what I think other people should achieve at my age. That's combined with the fact that whenever I obtain/achieve/reach a certain point it's never enough and I feel like I'm getting derailed because I'm not enthusiastic of my merit. This probably explains my defeatist behaviour, maybe it can help someone else, too.

>>45144 Well, for me doing the sex and kind-of intimacy thing ~30, returning to having if not "friends", people around that I can always "feel" in the world, shattered what was left of the mind and what kept it going. Complete mental collapse. The world feels so horrible, so cold, so empty, so meaningless, and I cannot re-establish a sort of bubble reality within it to insulate myself or keep me going. Cannot as easily leave the body. Cannot split the mind or double think. And the weirdest thing is that I was right, all along. I thought I had been tricked and trapped, but I was right. My core directive was that contact of any kind will end and remake the world, connection to self, connection to other, connection to "the world", connection to the physical body, connection to the mind, it is annihilating. I saw it as anything that was not "me" was "the world",and so everything was one single object, and if I got involved with it it would act as a sort of consummation with life and reality. It would drag me down from the heavens and bind me to this place. And then it actually happened. It was all true.
Cutter · 2025-04-19 08:27
>>44649 Thirty doesn't feel anywhere near as old as it felt a generation ago. It's the time you start having money and time to do the things you actually want to do, a decade with a settling-down sunset, into a new rebirth, if you manage to take advantage of it. >>45246 Key to dealing with the world is understanding it cannot touch and it cannot corrupt you. You let it. You can just as easily take a deep breath, begin seeing it as a transient and malleable extension of yourself (which is what it really is), and engage with it only as much as you have to in order to truly engage with yourself. Seeing this was/is hard but it's really there.
Tank · 2025-04-20 04:03
>>45246 I too get to thinking in binary terms. You remind me of a poem by Emily Dickinson. Keep in mind I am new to posting, as I'm a lurker of /g, so the formatting may be wack: While I was fearing it, it came - But came with less of fear Because that fearing it so long Had almost made it dear - There is a Fitting - a Dismay - A Fitting - a Despair - 'Tis harder knowing it is Due Than knowing it is Here. The Trying on the Utmost The Morning it is new Is Terribler than wearing it A whole existence through.

In the manga "The World is Mine!", an old hunter does squats for hours before going to hunt a bear the size of a house. Why? Uncompromising will, stamina, and effort. If that has to be fiction, I'm fine with the Internet being fiction. The sun doesn't shine here. Grass doesn't grow here. Countless noisy boxes of ghosts, with or without the bots. Sometimes I want to feel like a ghost, and sometimes I have trouble convincing myself I don't. Better to get reminded gently.
Jim Hilger · 2025-04-25 21:41
People with the "agency", I guess, to be creative Internet users are busy working to pay bills right now. Life got way more expensive in the last decades. Those without that agency just went to tiktok. But they would've just consumed TV beforehand. Same as it ever was.

Dozer · 2026-01-26 14:08
Someone unleashed AIs on the imageboards in 2015. These were years ahead of what OpenAI had at the time. I more or less remember how nice internet was until then and I remember the sharp cultural shift that took place that year. It radicalized anons, turned our spaces into an arena for cultural wars, and fed us untruths to deceive those who didn't have a strong presence in life. If you learn about the reality exclusively through a screen, what happens if you are constantly being fed lies? Your reality is shaped by these lies. It brainwashed us, and it brainwashed me. Only years later digging through the archives that I meticulously curated that I see clearly that we were being experimented on. How do we radicalize the masses, how do we shape their perception of reality? That was their question. Why do I hate my fellow countryman if we both want what we think is the best for the world? Politicians are corrupt either way and they are all in Epstein files. No, 4chan was the wuhan lab for algorithmic radicalization experiments. The experiment was a success and they unleashed their bots on the rest of the internet. Internet now only exists to make you paranoid, reduce you into data that can be monetized and shape your perception of reality. It's all algorithms all the way down. That's why it's so trash.
Splicer · 2026-01-27 21:28
>>48244 People were always jerks on the internet, especially imageboards. What was unique around that time though is the explosion of transgenderism and modern leftist thought, as well as collectivism. Sites like Reddit and tumblr were the breeding grounds for the experimentation and they ended up seeping into all facets of society. I’m not sure it is so much that the government or intelligence agencies were behind everything so much as that jews and leftists were successful in hijacking academia, the media and the tech world and used them as weapons to take over society. As for OP’s title, yes the WWW is more lifeless amd empty. It’s weird, not that many people I used to talk to from imageboards or social networks were the type to go on and raise families, but they all disappeared all around the same time. I doubt most people killed themselves, surely a few are busy with work and life but they didn’t need to delete themselves from the internet. I’ll say this, do your part and try to contribute to the internet as much as possible. Run your own servers and websites whenever possible. Use independently run services whenever you can. The world needs us.

>>48248 probably late into this but yeah, modern internet is soulless and it's hard to grasp that the internet changed quite drastically. It's never gonna be the same again and that's kinda the sad reality why people would rather erase themselves from the internet.
Splicer · 2026-04-14 21:04
I've seen what the internet has done to people and I will not cry for its death. I don't think the internet becoming a soulless husk has much to do with it, there's a lot of aspects to that other than the aforementioned to expect worse for it in the future, but there is still a lot of value for those that can course correct when their own habits become too retarded. It'll be sad to lose those good things, but as another unc I've realized it's the process the internet enables to be what I like, not the internet itself. Without it, what I cherish will take a new form... and hopefully have an added benefit of reverting the retard anxiety/outrage dopamine loop mindvirus that it has inflicted on everyone.

I'm 36 and I've always spent much of my life online. When I was around 28 I started shifting priorities, but I never truly changed. I still dabble with computers, my work is all computers and I still do things in the same vein I did back when I was a teenager. It isn't a waste if you take your lessons and improve yourself with all the experiences. When you grow up online, you get a lot of perspectives most other people don't and that can be a strength as much as it can be a weakness.

>>44556 i can relate to your situation and post. i always sort of felt like that. im almost 40 and i always just randomly travel like some kind of vegabond. always on the outside of society looking in. i took the train from frankfurt to strasbourg today it was alright i guess just listening to random youtube videos and looking at the scenery. the hotel check-in woman seemed to like me and we were chatting for a long time while i was having a coffee. sadly some interaction like that is the highlight of my day. most days i won't talk to anyone just sit in my room, maybe go jogging, walk around some random city. of course i talk to people online but even this fades. people in real life they don't really mind me it seems but im quite distant and mysterious i guess. not on purpose im just shy and try to play it cool and things never develop past an initial acquaintance stage. perhaps because im always moving around and am basically a neet. i guess you should try something if you have an idea and the desire. this way of living is so normalized to me now and at my age i just don't have the will to change who i am. sometimes i cope by trying to develop friendships or romantic partnerships online in the realm of purely textual communication. however i always push people away in this realm because i exhibit the exact opposite of my real life behaviour sharing everything and confessing my apparent love for people who may not even exist. i guess there is no solution or guidance in what im saying here, i mean in my case i just accept that this is how i am, some kind of social retardation. is like kicking dead whales down the beach being so lonely but there are a lot of worse states one could be born in.
