How would one publish a book anonymously, with various guides for illegal actions?(USER WAS WARNED FOR THIS POST, You should always elaborate on your opinions rather than just spilling the soykaf.)

Remember to do it on Starbucks' wifi so you don't get V& for uploading seditious materials and so John, the manager, has to field some pretty fuarrrking awkward questions to the police.

Starbucks will record things like your MAC Address so use tails with spoofing. Also they tend to have good coverage so you don't have to go in where there's cameras you can just be near the building.

I would avoid any format that comes with scripting "features" and/or proprietary binary extensions, for the sake of both the author and the readers. Use a format like fb2 that can be made without special tools and can be read without executing arbitrary code.

"Publishing" is easy, you can upload it to the books site using tor, the problem is publicizing it so people know it exists. There are a few imageboards and forums where you can still post using tor. There are also book compilation torrents made by people, so you could send an email to the maintainers and ask them to include your book. But all these platforms have an increasingly smaller userbase.
You could distribute it in person, but stay away from anything and anyone high profile (or maybe not, it depends on the country and the contents). Make sure to either use typewriter and then copy with an old photocopier, or print from the computer but with a very old printer, and in both cases use only back and white machines.

epub is the ebook format. ive not heard of fb2

I could understand the concern as a reader, but no-one is forcing you to use these features as an author. It's not like anything other than adobe's software can actually use them.
OP, ignore all the FUD and just post the damned book.

epub is a container for html files and it can have embedded javascript.
>ive not heard of fb2
It is xml so you can edit it by hand with your text editor, and it doesn't support scripting. It is probably the most minimalist ebook format with support for images and supported by most readers.

Edit it with your text editor and then read it with whatever you use to read your books.

pdf is a binary format so you have to use a tool to write your pdf file, a rather complex tool, and I doubt OP has the time or skills to actually audit both the tool and/or file to make sure it isn't doxxing him, be it intentionally or by accident. It is like checking if your printer uses yellow dots.

File format doesn't matter unless you fuarrrk up in a stupid way. But what can get you if your book gets some more publicity is stylometric analysis. I don't know of any easy way to prevent it, besides having no text associated with your real name (ie theses, social media posts) publicly available ever. I am waiting for someone to use LLMs for the job of anonymizing language, but I haven't seen it yet.
Jane Doe · 2025-04-02 14:33

You are overestimating the capabilities of stylometric analysis:
1. How much computing power do you think it takes (per word or character) to compare two texts for a style match
2. Now multiply that for the number of people and the average length of written corpora you would need for reliable matches
It can be done once the number of possible authors has been narrowed down. The counter-measure is to write in a second language that you don't usually use with your real name, but if you need to counter style identification you are already kind of cooked.

LLMs can already easily do that, just ask it to reword the text, it'll come out as lengthy chatgptslop and will retain your points. This could be done with a locally-run LLM too. I think the other anon is right however about overestimating style analysis. Currently there is no foolproof way to even identify academic plagiarism using LLMs without false postitives. The field has a long way to go.
Terzibashjian · 2025-04-22 14:49
Is publishing a guide really that dangerous? Like honestly I think you would be fine even if you don't take any precautions. Like you could probably upload it on your Facebook page lmao. Sure, it would get taken down, but you wouldn't face any particular legal consequences. Maybe if there are references to classified info it or smth they might care.
Crash Override · 2025-04-23 11:41

Style analysis is not reliable on its own, but it can help with building a profile (age, gender, place of origin, etc) that narrows down the list of suspects. If I were going to use an LLM for this sort of thing I would first generate a random set of demographic markers and use that to create a fictional character profile with a backstory. Then I would prompt the model to reword my text in the style of the character. Then switch characters for each chapter so the book looks like a collaborative effort between a diverse group of people. All on a local instance running on an airgapped device with networking components physically removed, of course.

To prevent this you can write it in a logical reasoning style, like the books from Saint Thomas Aquinas and Aristoteles. Just using logical sentences to show and prove your points. Read some parts of the Summa Theologica and you'll understand what i'm talking about.

If you did that it would not be well written to say the least. Even though the dialect would be superficially different, it would structure sentences and paragraphs in the same way unless explicitly prompted not to and it would not take liberties outside of that. Although I suppose it would be more "anonymous" in the sense that slop text is anonymous. But if you already have a low profile and nothing published before, there will be no author to trace it back to. It will be a unique, unrecognized voice.

I want to publish a book (online and offline) that has very bright thoughts but has also strong controversial sentences.
Who could I contact to review the book before publishing?
I wanted to send it to CIA for review but it seems their website requires javascript to send information.
If not CIA, then who?
The book would be mostly published in the US, it's in English.
Lunch · 2026-01-11 13:56
The whole point of the book is to make the world better place, the whole world. It promotes various positive traits in humans.
But has some controversial parts, that's why I want to ask someone about opinion.
