Why do men always cut their hair shorter when they get older?

fsociety · 2025-01-05 14:00
Does tgat make any sence? Anyone would look younger if their hair was longer. I just can't wrap my head around why most people do that

older men want/need to be providers and long hair don't project this image

Because balding with long hair looks like soykaf
Cereal Killer · 2025-01-05 17:56
Probably due to balding, thinning, personal preference, and cultural norms. Plenty of those who are fortunate to not go bald will grow it out. It seems to me (from personal experience and from lurking the men's long hair hyperboard) that many men who kept it short to be professional will start growing it out after retiring. >Anyone would look younger Most older people don't care about that. The ones who do end up getting whatever haircut is popular with young people and it always looks terrible thanks to the anachronistic juxtaposition of a youthful haircut on an aging face. Picture a 45 year old man walking into his office job with the broccoli haircut kids like now. It's sad.

I noticed a lot of guys who kept their hair extremely long with no break often go bald for example Hulk Hogan. I guess this may be from reduced oxygen in their scalp maybe? Also I suppose a lot of guys get tired of maintaining their hair like detangling it. Anyway it isnt everyone. I have an old gray haired man neighbor with long hair in a pony tail.

I had long hair through my 20s and cut it when i was about 30. I did it because maintenance was extremely annoying and it was uncomfortable. I feel like an idiot for having long hair for so many years because it took so much effort and made me feel less free. Suffering and wasting so much energy for subjective appearance seems like a personality flaw. it is so nice to be able to swim or shower in a few minutes without worrying about wet hair and conditioning and brushing it and having it tangle etc. In the end i think i look better too

>>43716 I'm opposite. Felt like long hair I could get away with not putting in effort and money into styling it and regular haircuts. The only effort goes into detangling it when I have gone too long without a shower because not having straight hair means regular brushing isnt possible without making it look like a poofy mess. Too depressed to have energy for basic tasks and since I don't go out a lot.

>>43716 Idk, man, sounds more like you just gave up on trying to look good, because you are too lazy to actually put effort into it

long hair accentuates balding. zimmers hate bimmers so much that zimmer women require not only an intact hairline, but bangs down to the eyebrows. to spite bimmers

wow I have long hair and never put any effort into it. If this is what high maintenance feels like I can't imagine how low maintenance is. I guess you just trade the time I spend brushing 90% of which is multitasking with other inanities for the occasional duty to trim. Seems like the balance should work out.
Acid Burn · 2025-01-10 22:48
older men are less tolerant of inconvenience for the sake of fashion on average. long hair is more work to maintain than short hair.

>>43696 >Why do men always cut their hair shorter when they get older? Maybe because they feel like it and they don't give a rat's ass what you think?

I'm an older gentleman and I'm currently rocking shaggy, skater hair. I used to have it reaching to my chest, but I had to cut it when I went to jail. I'm trying to reach that goal again, but it's a pain in the ass sometimes being so patient. And for the record, people think I'm in my 20's and are shocked to find out I'm not. But I don't think it's the hair so much as my facial features(full lips, long eyelashes, baby face).

>>43705 There is a genetic compulsion in Celts and Gauls to have long hair, combined with genetic balding.
Technician · 2025-04-20 18:12
>>43696 Balding is my guess. You need a decent hairline to pull off long hair. I just started growing my hair out around a year ago, I'm in my mid-late 20s so thought I might as well experiment a bit before it's too late.
Eldon Tyrell · 2025-04-21 06:58
Women are pressured for sexual competition reasons to have short hair as they get older, too. Maybe it's like that for men too.
Six · 2025-04-21 09:58
>>45413 Pressured to have shorter hair? What? They are the 1st people who are pressured to have it longer to look prettier no?
Lunch · 2025-04-22 03:43
Long hair is just not fashionable if you're an older guy. Some people can pull it off but only if you're an biker, illegal tradesperson or a hobo.
XERXES · 2025-04-22 07:27
>>45427 Pressured by other women, younger ones and ones of their own age that have their own hair cut short, and older ones too probably.
Leto Atreides I · 2025-04-22 08:43
Because too much and effort to maintain.
