podcast recommendations

Hi Lainanons! For the past few days I've been listening to the "Not Related! a Big-Braned Podcast" by Luke Smith and I'm almost done with it. I really like how this podcast work, how Luke explains things. This format where he basically just gives an introduction to ideas and then you can read more about the ideas in the books/studies he links to on your own, resonates with me. It got me thinking if I've ever seen/heard a podcast/media like this and I couldn't come up with anything, so I'm hoping some lainanons can help me out with recommendations. Thanks in advance:)

Not the same but I would recommend Professor Kozlowski on spotify if you are interested in philosophy or ethics. You get way more out if you read the books first and listen to him after but that's not 100% necessary

>>42939 Most podcasts are just friend simulators. From that perspective the "best" podcasts and the ones with hosts who closely match your own socioeconomic background / worldview / sense of humor etc. If you want educational podcast recommendations then you need to be more specific about what topics you're interested in.

>>42939 If I'm being 100% honest, the best substitute to luke smith podcasts are: #1: Reading books (I recommend starting with platonic philosophy and early christian theology, since you like Luke). #2: Making a single close friend to discuss said books and ideas with.
Agent Smith · 2024-10-26 05:31
In our time podcasts which are better at presenting an introduction to ideas. Specially, I like to read a book and listen to the episode on it to see if I missed anything.

>>42939 You could always download pdf books from anna's archive and convert them into text, then turn the text into speech. I do this with pdftotext and text2wave and if people would find it useful I can share my setup and some tips/cmds I find useful.

>>42984 annas archive is in my effort to use it a far more awful experience and harder to use than libgen ever has been
Debbie Charteris · 2024-10-27 09:58
>>42985 I just use it to search for links to books and typically get them from libgen, so maybe I should just say libgen

I like Esoterica channel at YouTube. I think it counts. >https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3DmMeJX-io Manly P. Hall's lectures are also very interesting. >https://archive.org/details/Manly_P.Hall_Digitally_Restored_Audio_Lectures Glitch Bottle podcast is also great! >https://www.youtube.com/@glitchbottle/videos

>>42984 >You could always download pdf books from anna's archive and convert them into text, then turn the text into speech. This doesn't really work because the text to speech doesn't speak naturally and doesn't understand basic grammar or punctuation. You will spend so much brainpower trying to parse what is being said you might as well just sit down and read the words. There are plenty of voice acted audiobooks available on the internet though. Search TE_Audiobooks_* torrents on btdigg. >>42992 It's a meme from another imageboard, don't worry about it.

>>42939 Luke has a very nice way of explaining things but some stuff he talks about (ie bicameral mind theory) are just flat out wrong or are countered by alternative theories that have much more sound ground.

if you want to kill brain cells you could at least take up boxing or something and get some exercise at the same time, instead of just listening to someone as stupid as luke smith talk about total bullshit he knows nothing about

>>44027 Whenever I see a short post that instantly goes to hostile seething and gives no context or substantial argument, I wonder if it is the same person. One guy, doing that over and over again in every thread he can. ]I've done something like this before. Even if you have legitimate grievance with some people who post here, it remains an inferior characteristic to sabotage the forum out of spite.

>>42939 why do people like luke smith? I don't get it. He seems like a snake oil salesman.
Hagbard Celine · 2025-01-30 20:56
>>44037 How is he a snake oil salesman? The only thing he sells are boring books about Orthodox Christian theology or stoicism. Luke Smith is just an autist who has an eccentric and unorthodox approach to technology. He's very honest about what he is. All of his scripts and guides are free and open for anyone to access. I don't necessarily agree with Luke Smith, but hatred for him on this site of all places seems hypocritical and arbitrary. He is not a snake oil salesman and an idiot just because you or some other person happen to disagree with him.

here is an old podcast made by lainchan users. you might find some of the names familiar. https://web.archive.org/web/20200513094929/https://podcast.teknik.io/ personally im allergic to podcasts but i used to listen to the ex-worker https://crimethinc.com/podcasts and noisechan https://ubiktune.bandcamp.com/album/noisechan-nugget-adventures-in-chiptunes first podcast is politics, second is about chiptunes and tracker music some other decent ones are https://itsgoingdown.org/category/podcast/ is another politics podcast. and https://www.crackdownpod.com/ is about the drug war specifically in Vancouver, Canada. https://soundcloud.com/thismachinekillspod is one i think that my friend showed me one time, it's about >technology and political economy and caught my attention. I also listened to a lot of welcome to night vale. it made me want to listen to coast to coast AM but like the older episodes with Art Bell in them.

If you have an anti-government/conspiracy-minded inclination then History Homos is peak friend simulator: https://anchor.fm/s/2431f8ac/podcast/rss https://odysee.com/@historyhomos:d They mostly do book and movie reviews with guests as a launchpad into some niche topic of revisionist history. They're also big fans of Rene Girard and got into Christianity later in life through his mimetic scapegoat theory, so they kind so have something in common with Luke Smith ( I doubt Luke would like Girard though).

>>45779 I'd be embarrassed to admit how many hours I've listened to those guys. I managed to find an old obscure movie review podcast that the funny guy Scott used to do: https://anchor.fm/s/35f0534/podcast/rss It's a bit of a weird show. You had better like stories about being edgy broke millennials in some town outside of Boston. They also hate nearly all the movies.

Caring about "muh like smith" even ironically isn't totally reddit tier at all.
