The internet has become a disgusting, creepy, and frankly enraging place. No matter where you go there's some weird fnck creep behind the veil hiding, deleting, filtering, purging, blocking, your soykaf. The rest of the time people's brains are so compromised that they can't even engage with anything. This is an accurate barometer of global brain function and psychosocial stability at various levels of organization, the whole thing is contaminated and crashing down. If you can't see this even at this late hour you're at best a victim of, but more likely, a part of, the problem.
It's like you're interacting with biobots. Human shaped objects that are all puppets of some central hivemind.

You are not entitled to anyone's attention. Behave, or else.

They just aren't buying what you're selling.

Its the universal problem of outliers.
You have to create a space where you gatekeep the avg out but being exclusive brings the problem of how to reach target members to build a community in first place. And the biggest challenge is you have to advertise in a manner that wont get derezzed/blocked as common mainstream platforms want to stop anyone else draining their users.
Lastly i must say im also guilty myself not using my old places and thereby aiding their dead. I hope its just me getting old & lazy and not a general trend that extends to next generation youth.

It seems that the situation you describe is, if not limited to one place, concentrated to it. The ability to reason about the future and be optimistic seems like a good indicator of regional health. Lately I've been entertaining the idea that this is the very simple ultimate project of humanity, if there ever was one: achieving perfect future-prediction and ending time, setting the stage for the next process to happen.

I drank a lot of kava recently and totally misinterpreted your post. Ending time. I don't even know what time is. It probably isn't a linear process to be ended. Although the way we're inserted into the psychophysical is temporalized, hence we experience it as relatively linear and only recognize nonlinear causation through the linear lens. So I'd say the basic ontology has to be revisited.... mental activity directly influences reality. To end time you have to end the self. The end the universe entirely, space and time, I don't know. If it's something you're projected or sunk into and trapped ina sort of vortex creating by the physical body, then that would entail one thing. If it's you turned inside out or some overlapping Indra's Net like structure then that's another.

It's like I said above, they're biobots. Human shaped objects. Programs. They're running simple scripts and can't create anything on their own, they just modify the scripts by doing whatever everyone else is doing. In this case underneath the illusory complexity is one simple directive, if you have an issue with society then you are not well adjusted. So you should go to a mind mechanic to get adjusted. And this is the key to happiness, adjustment. And happiness is the goal, under the most limited conception, which is a dissociative state where you fit in. This is why he keeps trying to convince me that I'm crazy and tries to hang it on being unlikeable, it's all he can comprehend. "If I can shapeshift and create something that can be likeable by others, I will be okay". This is his entire reality, he can't consider anything else. Hence, he is an incomplete being. He only understand "autoplastic" adaptation, not "alloplastic" adapation. When you look at that poster, you're looking at a pruned down tree.

In the DSM 4 you could have two people diagnosed NPD with zero trait overlap. You're just a child slapping labels on things because you're a hypersocialized braindead urbanite n!ggercattle that can only get its way by leveraging social dynamics and overarching cultural constructs. You tap into these currents and think you're cute and clever. In reality the rug can be pulled out from under you any time, the veil torn away, and then you're empty and helpless. No more terms to parrot, the crowd has moved on. That's okay, you hvae too, because you are the crowd. An empty vessel. A biobot. A human shaped object. Even if you believe a person has some kind of erroneous pathology (as qualified by the DSM or whatever), you should generally meet the person where they are at some level, rather than telling them that everything they see believe and do is necessarily wrong, contaminated in total by that pathology. >It's like you're interacting with biobots. Human shaped objects that are all puppets of some central hivemind.
study cybernetics. this was a goal from the beginning.
not the only goal, nor uncontested, but rather one of the first purposes of the internet linking military stations to one another in order to accelerate responsiveness feedback loops of their operations to the last, algorithmic learning from feedback of consumer behavior to, optimistically speaking make product but more realistically target advertisements and ultimately direct the economy towards shareholder profits. algorithms directed to make slop for humans and other algorithms - over time, the role of human participation decreases while inorganic contents - what is mass-produced - increase exponentially. at least until the well of engagement-attention economy has been completely dried up, the economy crashes with all this infrastructure (unemployed programmers, specialized software and hardware will be scattered like husks of production past).
but this is getting ahead of it. what has remained between each of these bull-run-to-crash tech bubble crises is the fundamental ideology of control - cybernetics - even as whatever academic backing it once borrowed turned away a long time ago. in this model you must realize the computer is not alien to the human, the computer is merely the human's interface into a system which they are inextricably a part of. so the theory promises a modification and assistive technology on top of the system that was already in place. in this context any individual, organization, and perhaps even society is a complex information processor like your computer is, this is not a new system but rather the one in which many things (like the keyboard and mouse) were developed in mind of. each of these systems consists of organic-machinic feedback loops intended to direct social organism like a course-correcting missile, itself analogous to all living beings, or really any relatively stable energetic existence. like stars.
this method might be traced, perhaps, back to progressive developments on statecraft first popular in the early 20th century, especially in scandinavian social democracies. while these ideas would be later considered proto-fascist due to their severe incorporation into nazi eugenics, these young-ish democracies had not yet born witness to the horrors of modernity. They viewed society as a biological organism, one which could be healthy or sick, and that all people were cell-like units within the operation of. but when crisis hit, it was not long before this idea was incorporated by certain zealots into policies intended to treat members of its own population like it was supposed the human immune system treated viruses, or bacteria: dirty contaminants meant to be culled from the gene pool. this went the way history knows it.
there are few defenses i can make of the cybernetic approach to things. one a contemporary proponent might make is how the function of the system must be democratic in some extent, that its subject feedback loops only work if there is information flow between the system and its constituents. that an organic system which attempts to destroy significant parts of itself can be described as sick, or suicidal, and the outcomes of this sort of behavior are obvious. i think this is what OP touches on.
unfortunately, i feel this qualification fails to justify the consistent arising of genocidal, suicidal, warlike, or authoritarian states. certainly, it is possible to imagine the emergent self-awareness of society as a total conscious interconnectivity between people, which is ultimately the maximum democratic feedback (like a superconductive electrical circuit), and perhaps the end state of Marx's prediction about proletariat's concentration and community-forming in cities. however the cybernetic global brain cannot in my eyes be separate from exercise in statecraft, aligned perhaps with a tradition stretching back to Plato's Republic, a rough allegory for both how society should be run and the typical understanding of humans as directed by their brains.
Or further, still, to any historical technocracy at all. That is not to say there are very evidently deep differences between the technocrat who imagines society as a living organism, the needs of any individual reduced from their verbal concerns to animal drives no doubt sated by the logic of a superior governant machine, policy, etc (itself a projection of the technocrat in question), and the hacktivist radical speech about how the government or other authorities' egregious violation of social consensus is a failure to the global brain (is this not perhaps some /cyb/ way of saying, *we the people*). while these two poles of similar assumptions certainly have plenty of interesting syntheses and opportunism between them all miss the point of viewing the world as this sort of network to begin with.
You see, these ideas all seemingly arise from the certainty of scientific observation which were always the observations of ecosystems, or perhaps thermodynamical ones as well. it has gone without saying that the global brain is a human one, that even as humans are transcended by such things as logic, machinery, economic systems, even spirits all of these things have as their origin the human. Even if the agency of one or all humans has been suppressed, or in marxist terms one class upon another (or the commodity-form's valuation of us all into classes) it is in abstract formation of a human body doing these things. To which Gaia remains elusive.
in conclusion i would argue like others have, even as you can argue for a liberatory notion of the global brain, that is contrary to all these restrictive systems you encounter, it is theory rooted in the practice of authoritarian statecraft, political economy, whatever you want to call it. you're preaching to the chorus, at the same time, you are defeating yourself with this reliance on the theory of your very captors. hope this helps

How is cybernetics related?
Its a simple problem of power retention. If you elevate every human to his maximum potential then the public will easily discern the propaganda and overthrow rulers not acting in their interest. Especially in a democratic system where competent voters equal a loss of power to the party in reign. Consequentially everyone is trying its best to reduce people to biobots as the previous poster labelled them where they can execute desired functionality but otherwise are mentally lobotomized which keeps them in save limits.

>Its a simple problem of power retention
this kind of introduction always makes me wince, because it more often than not feels like an effort to fit as many complex and restricting assumptions into as short a sentence as possible. it comes off as severely shortsighted - like a deliberate tunnel vision.
to directly answer your question, the simple equation of knowledge = power that you draw upon is fairly modern development in theories of power reliant, and obviously an info-theoretic one. this is at the core of cybernetics.
additionally, the treatment of humans like robots arrives from cybernetics. its social policy is oriented around society as a system, which necessitates its subjects act deterministically. it is authoritarian because it needs to restrict peoples abilities so much so that all of their actions can be accounted for.
Pulse · 2024-09-11 23:52
>>42489
way i see it you simply compare humans to robots now because you have the concept of a robot and neural networks. Its a modern comparison simply because the concept didnt exist before. The idea to keep to control people through limiting education is way older though. Aristoteles already formulated the problem of democracy eats itself because to retain power you have to manipulate voters into stupidity to reelect bad rulers in power. A smart public constitutes a loss in power since it will judge mistakes more harshly so every rules has a need to stupify their voters. And limiting knowledge to nobility & clergy was also a standard method. The catholic church famously abused a monopoly on latin literacy until luther translated the bible into readable language for the public.
