Does anyone here keep subconsciously comparing themselves to fictional characters? You start consuming anime manga but realize you will never have a meaningful fulfilling life like those characters. And I'm not talking about action adventure, even simple dramas and romances the stories are basic but you can't stop comparing yourself to MC and realizing how soykaf you are. Oversaturation of entertainment leads to internalized pressure to perform and achieve and you end up holding yourself to insane standards or falling into deeper and deeper despair as you realize you are just another insignificant statistic. Is this the real way entertainment controls us and keeps us in line? Instead of being a drug to relieve pain it makes us more and more negative and self-hating. I can't enjoy anything anymore.
How do I recover from this anhedonic sickness?

you are the main character. You should hold yourself to high standards and strive to be the best at any thing you do. You have the power to make an enormous mark on the world if you set yourself to the task to do it, and even if you do not affect billions in the next few years, you can still be of huge importance to your friends and family. Develop power and use it!
To regard your own self as a mere statistic is the most bizarre mindset and if it is yours either get out or kill yourself stat.

It's actually pretty normal to sort of unconsciously compare yourself to characters in stories, myths, books, movies, whatever. it's one of the things that makes them so interesting. "would *I* do that?" "is that the right thing to do?" "should I see things lthat way?"
