I just discovered I have "soft ADHD". I'm desolated. I remember thinking to myself once that it'd be good if I had adhd or autism because it would allow be to be a victimist, and justify me being an underachiever. Or, I remember once arriving at the conclusion that such disabilities didn't change who the people were - meaning Mark, who is an aspie, is still Mark and being an aspie doesn't change that.
But now that I've been diagnosed with it, I'm desperate and sleepless. Wishing to myself that I'd be normal, like everyone else. Instead of being a certified retarded. Until now I only new empirically that I'm a useless piece of soykaf but now I have a psychologist telling me this as well.
Sorry for the rant, I couldn't think of a place better than lainchan. **Also I fuarrrking hate the "ADHD" commnlunity and absolutely will not tell people that I'm retarded like those retards do.**
Jean Dupont · 2024-08-09 05:52
Only way you're retarded is saying you're retarded just because of being short on attention like most people these days
Jane Doe · 2024-08-09 09:52
What the fuarrrk is "soft ADHD" even? At this point thinking this means there's something wrong with you is like thinking there's something wrong with having plastic in your blood.
Yeah, normally you shouldn't have it, but look at the environment you live in. It's inevitable.

Man I read your post and felt a consistency between the first two paragraphs but obviously there's just contradiction, right? "It doesn't change who you are" -> "I feel changed" Both cases are talking about changes and recognition.
Here goes:
"These people seem changed by recognition of their qualities, how irrational"
"I seem changed by recognition of my qualities, how irrational"
anyway what is the A - D - D? how does the diagnosis qualify itself?

i think adhd is an inevitability of living in the modern world, it's very abstract and runs on commodifying one's attention. maybe the severe cases are what happens to one that's chronically online

My psychologist told my parents that I have "light symptoms of ADHD". I'll meet her the next week and she will go through the diagnosis with me.
>>42087
Sorry if I were unclear. I meant that before I had ADHD, I once thought that having conditions such as ADHD and autism didn't change who you were.
Now that I was diagnosed with ADHD, my view has changed.

lain, they pathologize everything, don't blow it out of proportion. your fear of being labelled 'bad' is scarier than the actual symptoms.
i was called adhd as early as 2nd grade. in reality, i had a sega genesis and liked playing sonic more than doing useless arithmatic which i knew a calculator could do much better. school trains us to be acclimatized to industrial-factory work which no longer even exists in post-industrial society, everything is about being a 'good worker'. you have increased bandwidth for things you care about, use that to accomplish your own goals and don't live in shame or fear of your own brain, just learn what it wants and work with it not against it.

I dont see how it relates to factory work. I wasnt taught engineering. I was taught how to type on the computer though but that's closest there was for me.

Factory line work is assembly line jobs not building factories.
Its brainrot work like standing 10h on assembly line screwing bottle caps on filled bottles because people are still cheaper than a machine.
And they intentionally made it brainrot because they wanted to avoid raising competition. Owners had issues with underpaid craftsmen leaving creating their own shop so they came up with splitting the work in tiny brainrot pieces where anyone in the job would never learn the whole process and could be easily replaced.
Meddler · 2024-08-11 09:50
>school is prep for factory work
and yet they've sent all the factories overseas and keep trying to send more
I think its more office droll/email job prep nowadays
in factory setting, quality of the work matters

modern life changed but school education didnt change since 18th century.
You still on a memorizing routine to grade high and the core idea behind that is not teaching important info but getting you ingrained into doing what you told to do.
The kids with a functional brain that wont waste their life on useless info automatically grade lower and get filtered out for disobedience.
Agent Jones · 2024-08-11 20:21
funny that the adhd thread got derailed so quickly...
point being that its part of the education system that ultimately fails at the stated goal of preparing kids for 'the real world'
and part of the real world of lived experience is not making your own natural proclivity, how your brain is wired to process information, out to be the bad guy and try to medicate that away so you can be
> "normal"
which by the way, stimulants for adhd has an increased risk of parkinsons

ritalin & adderal are just forms of meth... once you know its no surprise its bad. nazis had "tank chocolate" to them keep soldiers fighting with mixed in meth and now pharma peddles same soykaf to kids under new label.
Real solution would be exercise, nobody is stupid enough to expect a young animal to sit still for 8h daily but you do that with humans and claim its defect when it cant... even in university i still do better when i get my exercise. People need to understand touching grass is not optional. Body needs to move.

Amphetamine and methamphetamine are related but different. Though you can get meth in a prescription but it isnt too common probably limited to certain areas. Exorcise could help but it likely has limited effect for actual ADHD. Meditation might be helpful to better focus the mind through practice.

If you compare structural formulas you can see they merely replaced a -C in ritalin/adderal. Its the minimal change required to patent it as something new and thereby ensure a monopoly on the product. Same happened with other meds too. Researchers found one old cheap medicine was effective for heart treatment and it cost only pennies. So pharma made a minimal change and patented it under new name to sell it at 100x price. Usually i soykaf on our media being useless but the heart medicine scam had a hour long documentary from a national tv station which is the only reason i heard about it.

It is a change that changes the effect a bit too though. Just look on /drg/ i recall a topic covering it already
Zhora · 2024-08-12 06:53

Of course there is a slight change when you change the formula. Point is change is done to get patents and monopolize the market not to improve the product. They created a problem teaching schools how every kid has adhd by widening the diagnosis steadily and monopolized the solution for maximum profit.

Sometimes a slightly changed compound is functionally, which is to say in effect, more or less the same as the original one. Sometimes it is very much not (for example, water with an extra oxygen molecule is now very counterproductive when it comes to most things we would use water for).
Methamphetamine is a substituted amphetamine. So are Wellbutrin, Sudafed, MDMA, some psychedelic phenethylamines, and a bunch of cathinones and fluorinated amphetamines you might recognize if you were into research chemicals a decade+ ago.
Obviously, some of these have very different effects. Some have quite similar ones. The effects of amphetamine and methamphetamine are more similar than not.
However, this doesn't mean that adderall is merely relabeled meth. The methyl group does cause some significant differences. It makes the drug cross the blood-brain barrier easily, which has some effects I don't remember off the top of my head, including quicker onset. Both drugs release dopamine and norepinephrine. But meth releases more of it and inhibits reuptake more effectively. It also has some kind of markedly more direct neurotoxicity in the process. There is relatively stronger central nervous stimulation with meth, and relatively stronger peripheral nervous stimulation with amphetamine. This causes stronger dopaminergic subjective effects with meth, increasing reinforcing (habit-forming) potential; on the other hand, it causes stronger "body load" noradrenergic effects with amphetamine, which might discourage you from using it as freely and heavily as you might use meth.
This isn't a comprehensive overview of course. Amphetamine and meth do accomplish kind of the same thing. But meth is known to be non-negligibly more damaging in various ways, which is why pretty much nobody actually ever gets prescribed Desoxyn, even though it is indicated for severe ADHD. It's only considered worthwhile after safer pharmacotherapies have failed.
>blah blah minimal change required to patent blah blah monopoly blah blah profiteering blah blah
That's a riveting conspiracy theory, but you have no idea what you're talking about, lol. Both amphetamine and methamphetamine were synthesized at nearly the same time in the late 1800s. There is no "monopoly". Generic dextroamphetamine is a thing.
It makes no sense to talk about how "they merely replaced a -C in ritalin/adderall" as if these are interchangeable.
Ritalin (methylphenidate) is significantly different from amphetamine in structure from amphetamine and that statement can't be true of both substances at once.
Adderall is a mixture of four different amphetamine salts, not merely a slight change to methamphetamine HCl. It also has generics available.
tl;dr go read more, child

some poor anon wastes his time spoonfeeding you and this is how you respond "unga no U wrong"
anon's claim "Both amphetamine and methamphetamine were synthesized at nearly the same time in the late 1800s"
10 seconds on wiki:
"Amphetamine was first synthesized in 1887 in Germany by Romanian chemist Lazăr Edeleanu who named it phenylisopropylamine"
"Amphetamine, discovered before methamphetamine, was first synthesized in 1887 in Germany by Romanian chemist Lazăr Edeleanu who named it phenylisopropylamine.[163][164] Shortly after, methamphetamine was synthesized from ephedrine in 1893 by Japanese chemist Nagai Nagayoshi.[165]"
i call that 10 points for anon, 0 points for captain retardo
note: of COURSE pharma are pushing drugs on kids that don't need them, that's where the money is-- but that doesn't mean we have to make up stories about meth being more patentable (or vice-versa)
christ have you seen what they are pulling with hormones originally intended to prevent menopause? (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hormone_replacement_therapy)

This is an issue of repeating facts while missing the point. You cant even patent meth since its illegal and whenever research discovered a compound is irrelevant to meth&adderal being new brands recently created... the whole talking point is bullshit. Educated fool at best, malicious damage control from someone in the biz at worst.
The way pharma + insurance work is they create a brand and only cover the brand by insurance to force you into generating revenue for the brand. And simultaneously they also instruct doctors to prescribe the brand where the first method fails since regular patients wont even know by themself that a cheaper generic exists. Pharmacies are also forced into contracts where they cant mention generics for the right to sell the brand.

Take your pills and be done with it. ADHD is the most researched neurodevelopmental disorder. You have a multitude of solutions. ADHD does not make you retarded, just find new and exciting things to do.

The really funny part is that I think you're right, as far as the core concept. They massively overprescribed stimulants to children for all sorts of undesirable behavioral problems, using ADHD hype as a weak excuse. Ritalin definitely fucked my cousin up; between that and his parents enabling/coddling him, he will basically never be an independently functional person, let alone self-actualized.
I know I just went on a thing about how amphetamine is less bad for you than meth, but that's exactly what I was getting at and nothing more. Amphetamine (and Ritalin) is still a ridiculous thing to hand out to kids after sometimes cursory diagnostics at the scale they did.
I said some stuff about Ritalin being a totally different structure too, not because I think it's fine and safe to pass out like candy, but because all the stuff about the patent conspiracy thing is needlessly detracting from your otherwise reasonable point.
Anyway sorry to hear about your reading comprehension, maybe go check out what drug schedule meth is in and look into some stuff about state laws about pharmacies having lists of generic equivalents available / mandatory substitution

ADHD, or any special need, can help benefit a high degree of intelligence like I have in the long run and it's interesting, a lot of people agree. Has anyone on /r/ been diagnosed with any special need but had not realized they're very intelligent before?
