Assange is free!

Agent Jones · 2024-06-26 08:14
So Assange is out. I half expected the feds to black back him in Saipan and ship him to some black site. He looks like total soykaf though. What is the significance of this? Assange signed a plea deal so I guess this means exposing government crimes/lies is still borderline illegal but its not like he's going to spend the rest of his life in prison under the espionage act. I'm guessing the US will throw the book at anyone trying to expose its lies, especially investigative journalists and they will probably call a hit on Snowden once he steps outside of Russia. Its not like there are any good journalists left anyway. They all suck the President's dick now. I guess the moral of Julian's story is not to draw too much attention to urself with your work or sleep around with random bitches and whores or get yourself into a fuarrrking love triangle where you can be easily charged or manipulated. What do Lainons think?
Vasya Pupkin · 2024-06-26 08:21
Assange didn't apply basic strategic thinking. He acted like a character in a cyberpunk novel and that soykaf doesn't work irl. I'm glad he's free. He never was forced to publicly denounce his ideals. It's a symbolic victory, worth celebrating IMO.
Cereal Killer · 2024-06-26 08:58
Hope the guy can start anew with his remaining life. He did his part, fuarrrked around, found out and got unjustly punished. Worthy journalism achievement, next to being "mysteriously" assassinated.
Fred Nurk · 2024-06-27 04:34
Assange was an attention whore and a control freak and he couldn't keep it in his pants. Those things were the cause of his downfall. He did great work and we should all be grateful for what he's done for us. The media always hated Wikileaks and what it stood for. A bunch of nerds and freaks on the net making the NYT obsolete and exposing the lies they feed us. I just hope he can make up for lost time and learn from his mistakes.
Drifter · 2024-06-27 04:41
He looks like he aged 20 years in this time from stress. You see similar rapid aging with US presidents especially after two terms.
Yamaoto Toshi · 2024-06-27 14:45
Assange is a complete asshole and got everything hr deserved. He was never a "journalist" like Ellsberg or ideologue like Snowden or Reality Winner. who were honestly trying to do something good. He's a destructive little narcissistic jackass sociopath who only wanted to do as much harm as he could. Otherwise he would have redacted the names of a lot of good people he got tortured and/or killed when he released his data. He's even worse than that idiot Teixeira. I can't stand the little creep.
Marly Krushkhova · 2024-06-27 15:35
>>41544 >>41558 A lot of hostility coming towards him, but it's understandable. Even his fellow web admins who were running wikileaks and ended up leaving or distancing themselves from him after his actions and lifestyle that got him in trouble to begin with said they thought most donations to wikileaks were going to him personally and not to keeping the site running. He wanted to be a l33t haxor and like most hackers, his goal was to be notorious, not to to actually do something for a good cause, which would have probably kept him out of the limelight.
Debbie Charteris · 2024-06-27 15:47
>>41560 I am not hostile to Assange. I love Julian and I will always support him. If you criticize a person sincerely its not coming from a place of hostility but because you care about said person and want them to be better. What Assange and Wikileaks achieved is amazing and they've done humanity a service, that's something most people will fail to ever do. Without Assange you don't get a Snowden or a Reality Winner etc. But we have to be honest that Assange did a lot of bad things to people (not the things the government and MSM accuse him of) and behaved in a selfish and reckless way. I just hope he can rebuild his life and not make the same mistakes and continue to do good work. >He wanted to be a l33t haxor and like most hackers, his goal was to be notorious, not to to actually do something for a good cause Assange was a reckless young guy barely out of his 20s. You can't compare him to Ellsburg who was a guy with way more experience and wisdom under his belt and who wasn't afraid of going to prison. I don't think Assange was entirely selfish. He was caught up in this image of youthful rebel master of teh internets haxxx0r sticking it to authority and fighting for freedom etc. I don't think he drew a line between self-aggrandizement and a good cause, they went hand in hand for him. A lot of young people think this way and don't realize how selfish it is until they are older. Like another anon said, he acted like a character from a cyberpunk novel.
Cat Mother · 2024-06-27 15:57
>>41561 >without snowden you don't get an assange that's fairly funny considering how little wikileaks had to do with snowden before he was literally on the run, and their scheme to assist him succeeded only by happy accident.
Guthrie · 2024-06-27 16:18
>>41563 Would a guy like Snowden have ever come forward without someone like Manning or Assange to lead the way?
Ivan Horvat · 2024-06-27 17:34
>>41564 You make it sound like Assange invented the idea of spilling secrets, or spilling them to news organizations. I'll have you know its actually a fairly old practice going back at least to the 1960's, somewhat before Julian Assange was even conceived.
Neo · 2024-06-27 21:47
>his team was derezzed at same time he got captured >his "big bombshell" automated leak got fuarrrked over by three letter agency literally nuking the ETH blockchain >his twitter was taken over and the feds couldn't reproduce the PGP key to verify that it was used by him/his team >Pamela Anderson (old prune of mainstream sex hedonism icon) got his foot in the door to probably bug him >you guys believe that is him funny
Junichi Fujiwara · 2024-06-28 08:56
he's still, in a lot of ways more successful than many people, and now with his freedom restored I wonder what next he'll do. Back to his old shenanigans ? Was promising not to part of the deal that let him escape ?
Sabo Engle · 2024-06-28 10:15
>>41585 >Was promising not to part of the deal that let him escape I don't know if there's a public record of his deal, but I have a hunch he won't be going back to his usual (positive) bullshit because of the deal. Unless he's daring enough to go under a whole different identity and get someone to do his writing for him. Whether written in the deal or not, I hope for him that he doesn't. I'd be paranoid af to even try again. Yes I am a massive pussy fite me I will cry.
Bob Arctor · 2024-06-28 10:20
I doubt he will ever do anything again. He seems to have been pretty messed-up psychologically during his emprisonment. That, and I'm willing to bet that he will die by "suicide" or a "tragic accident" in the year.
Meddler · 2024-06-28 13:59
>>41566 That's not what Assange pioneered at all. Virtually every major news outlet today has a covert dropbox for people to deposit leaks. Assange pioneered independent news media that was all digital and run by net geeks instead of traditional journalists and that such collectives could put out solid investigative work and make a meaningful impact. Guerrilla journalism that was actually a threat to people in power including traditional journalists. Remember, he was doing this in an era when media was heavily monopolized around a handful of mega corporations. Assange helped create a culture that tolerates and encourages whisteblowers and even mainstream corporate giants like the NYT had to jump on the bandwagon despite hating every minute of it. I really doubt Snowden would have come forward if Assange hadn't already shaken up the media environment. If Snowden had approached the NYT or the Guardian before the Iraq war leaks or Cablegate, he probably would have been dismissed as a schizo or they'd rat him out to the feds. Snowden wasn't like Ellsburg of Deepthroat, he was just an ordinary guy and the same goes for Manning, and now there are dozens of people everywhere leaking stuff all the time. Wikileaks showed what a group of naive tech savvy retards and ordinary backstage nobodies could do with the internet and the result is they've killed the government's monopoly on secrecy. Everything is different now.
Six · 2024-06-28 14:32
>>41587 That or he is going to write a book and show up at ted talks and public speaking events about "muh gubmint" for the rest of his life, always being known for his past with no real future ahead of him. At least someone will profit off of him staying alive.
Hououin Kyouma · 2024-06-28 14:59
>>41594 I was worried this was going to be a stupid post but its not a stupid post at all. That seems reasonable. Entirely true ? I guess we can't know for sure, but its plausible as such things go. Before the age of wikileaks the newspapers could see themselves as the orderly gatekeepers curating what gets presented to the public eye, but assange blew a huge hole in their walls and now they're on the backfoot, and thankful to anyone who acknowledges that their gate even exists. Someone else could have forced that change, and sooner or later would have, but Assange was the one who did it. That said, Snowden seems driven enough that I find it very possible that he'd have found a way before getting nabbed.
Yuki Nagato · 2024-06-28 15:19
>>41594 Snowden's predecessors did go to MSM, and were dismissed as nobodies or schizos. Snowden just happened to be in the right place at the right time, it wasn't that he was spectacularly special. Investigative journalism has been around since long before the internet existed. If Assange were not the one to do it, someone else would have, and they might have heeded advice and actually released information that was important without everyone's names which endangered them. Remember that a lot of leaks had sensitive information about local informants and translators working for the west, and that was one of the main reasons the USA wanted assange to begin with, even without his playboy sex crimes.
The Oracle · 2024-06-28 17:05
>>41598 You could say the same about Stallman or Torvalds or pretty much anyone really. History isn't a timeline of genius personalities and we shouldn't build cults around these figures but still give credit where credit is due. A lot of people were in the right place at the right time. >a lot of leaks had sensitive information about local informants and translators working for the west and that was one of the main reasons the USA wanted assange to begin with, Those people were combatants in a war zone. They were already in danger voluntarily. The US hates what Assange represents. He's not a regime approved journalist from the NYT (American Pravda) but just some guy. The White House had no leverage over him. He's just a random nobody convicted for haxx00r activities who couldn't be reasoned with and refused to play ball, not a complaint Ivy League normal person who wants to suck cocks on CNN. Assange came with no strings attached and no commitment to their ideologies. That got the politicians worried. The evil hackers are now publishing our secrets on digital news sites and getting press awards and we have no control over them. What if more tech savvy nobodies started copying Assange? What if hackers start publishing our secrets? What if more nameless functionaries who grease the wheels of power start leaking anonymously via the net? They panicked and they've been trying to make an example out of him ever since. Even if Assange wasn't a naive prick and followed journalistic norms to the letter, they'd still be trying to crucify him.
藤原純一 · 2024-06-28 18:04
>>41601 >Those people were combatants in a war zone. They were already in danger voluntarily. we have a word for revealing information that could put your sides combatants in mortal danger even though they're already in a warzone, and that word is 'treason'. The only credible defense as to why assange is neither a traitor nor an enemy agent is that he's actually just australian.
Bobby Newmark · 2024-06-29 04:07
Wikileaks failed because guys like Assange thought if you just reveal the hidden facts then people will wake up. Wrong. People don't give a fuarrrk about facts but about narratives. You could show a Trump nigger footage of the Donald raping a baby and verify it and they'd still ramble some Qanon soykaf to you. Ordinary people have just ignored Snowden basically. They buy their Ap/p0l/ like good sheep and live like lemmings. Politicians figured out a long time ago that the best way to deal with someone like Snowden is to distract people with meaningless bullshit and arguments over nothing. Today, the average yank thinks his vote matters and he has to choose between two geriatric apes who spent the last day arguing about their golf swings. No hard questions. Keep the people doped up on entertainment and narrative and they don't care if the NSA is installing probes up their anus. >>41598 Documents revealed those informants and contractors were hiring male child prostitutes. If they were killed they got what was coming to them. They deserved it. What does a nation do to a traitor? The US invaded those countries illegally and used pedos and drug addicts to rat on people. I say let the Taliban shoot them. No man no problem.
Frank Garza · 2024-07-01 13:51
>>41607 >Wikileaks failed because guys like Assange thought if you just reveal the hidden facts then people will wake up Wikileaks failed because Assange is an attention whore and had to make sure everybody knew who he was and what he was doing. That gave them a big target to aim for. >People don't give a fuarrrk about facts but about narratives. People don't give a fuarrrk about facts or narratives. People care about being one of the "good" guys. Being a "good" guy means you support Ukraine and BLM and the LQBTGs and you wear a mask and got the jab and do everything else the corporate media tells you to do. >You could show a Trump nigger footage of the Donald raping a baby and verify it and they'd still ramble some Qanon soykaf to you. Sam Harris is the one who said on air that he didn't care if Biden has bodies of dead children in his basement. The FBI and justice department have been investigating Trump for 7 years now and they got nothing. They literally just convicted him of filling out a tax form incorrectly. Then again who gives a fuarrrk about facts and narratives right, you want to be a "good" guy you have to hate Trump. >Today, the average yank thinks his vote matters You think your vote matters in 3 days? >>41602 >we have a word for revealing information that could put your sides combatants in mortal danger even though they're already in a warzone, and that word is 'treason'. He revealed war crimes which happened in a bullshit illegal war you were lied into. It's not treason when "your side" is unambiguously in the wrong. A soldier's job is to protect the country not the politicians and corporations who run it.
Masami Eiri · 2024-07-01 14:10
>>41637 >could show a trump nigger footage of the donald raping a baby trump nigger here (we prefer the term "Negro", thank you very much), you misunderstand us completely. The questions of the race, sex, and general attractiveness of the baby are of paramount importance here. If he raped the right baby then yeah, sure whatever.
Splicer · 2024-07-01 14:21
>>41638 >"Negro" obvious troll, the real term is "Trumptard". >>41637 >you want to be a "good" guy you have to hate Trump. yeah regrettably I'm a sucker for villains so for me the choice is clear. >A soldier's job is to protect the country not the politicians and corporations who run it. if your effort to protect your 'country' leads you to reveal information to your enemies that will help them kill your comrades in arms then I think you've crossed a line. If you object to a war then there are better ways to oppose it than volunteering for the army and then turning informant for the enemy.
Drano · 2024-07-01 15:17
>>41637 >A soldier's job is to protect the country not the politicians and corporations who run it. That's where you're wrong buddy! See picrel, the military exists to serve politicians. While you may have a different opinion, this is from the main manual that specifies what the US military is and does. >>41639 >If you object to a war then there are better ways to oppose it than volunteering for the army and then turning informant for the enemy. this, since the military is told what to do by politicians, you need to stop the politicians from using the military for stupid reasons instead of trying to attack those who are generally motivated to be in the military for good reasons, not because they are psychopaths who want to bathe in the blood of children.

>>41642 Those are illegal ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ >the U.S. Constitution and state laws use the term “militia” to refer to all able-bodied residents between certain ages who may be called forth by the government when there is a specific need; but private individuals have no legal authority to activate themselves for militia duty outside the authority of the federal or state government. The fact sheets also explain that the Second Amendment does not protect private militia activity, pointing to decisions from the U.S. Supreme Court in 1886 and 2008 making clear that the Second Amendment “does not prevent the prohibition of private paramilitary organizations.” >All 50 states prohibit private, unauthorized groups from engaging in activities reserved for the state militia, including law enforcement activities.
Hagbard Celine · 2024-07-01 15:53
>>41643 of course they're illegal, they counter the reason we funnel so much damn cash into guns and other creative ways to end lives and regimes. remember: laws are made by the government, and while they do represent the ideals of the people to a degree, they are always written by a politician, which in 2024, dont agree with the 99%, aka, the people. no i'm not a socialist, just poor, angry, and exercising my god given american right to soykaf on the rich and the politicians.
