Restored an old PDA and installed Opera Mini on it. Glad to see this site works with 2006 tech!
Hmm, sadly upload didn't work here, but did on nofun.catbox.moe

congrats on the restoration. What's the plan for it? reinstall with new OS? jailbreak?

Maybe see if something like the old version of Midori works better for a browser?

Would pale moon be an option for something that old too? Also curious what the plan is for the PDA.

Hello again, thanks for the interest.
There's no point in jailbreak, or alternative OS. Since WinMob is pretty open, as in you can install whatever you want and from any source, and the only alternative OS that I know of for this is half broken Android 1. Also most sites that hosted custom ROMs are dead.
As for what I want to do with it, not much, it's just nostalgic for me since it was my familly member's device. I am thinking of firing up Visual Studio and code something for it for fun. As I was using the PDA I noticed it's actually pretty fun and useful for just reading blogs and articles online as it doesn't support all the distractions and other web bloat. Although I should probably just use RSS on my eReader. eInk FTW.
Sadly the device is not at its best, the resistive touch screen is way off in the bottom (and that's where kbd is... but I manage) and there's no sound, even though speaker is ok (I tested). The build quality is really good though, taking it apart and back was a breeze.
As for the browser, Opera Mini is very good, it dispays things very well and supports modern enough TLS ciphers. And I don't think think there are any modern-ish browser ports for WinMob6. Also Opera has kinetic scrolling.
BTW the kbd has cool gestures and the dictionary lerns as you type. Ah the days when even corpos like MS where trying to make actually usefull products.

That's actually pretty neat. Takes me back a few years. Kudos from a nix powered toughbook.
