Cold Showers

The Phantom Phreak · 2024-05-09 20:48
For some time now i've heard that getting cold showers makes you feel better in a lot of aspects, and i was wondering if any of you lains have tried it. To me, it kind of feels like those useless middle aged men advices of, YOUR A SCHIZO? HIT THE GYM. I am not a schizo, nor am i in a bad spot; if anything i have a crippling porn addiction that im trying to overcome and also problems to focus on my hobbies, so i'd be nice to hear you lains experiences and advices, if you where to have any, so that i get more convinced in trying in. (which ill probably so regardless of my current bias but whatever i want to get a thread going)

>>40670 > me, it kind of feels like those useless middle aged men advices of, YOUR A SCHIZO? HIT THE GYM. Do you even have a foundation for this or are you just finding reasons to not do something? Hitting the gym is helpful. Most people that are diagnosed with (or suspect they have) schizophrenia, or really most mental illnesses, do not have it and are just experiencing various deficiencies. Many of them vitamin/mineral related. This is why drinking water, cutting sugar, mild exercise, and proper dieting are recommended. They're a good starting point to help you figure out if the issue is actually there or if it's just a foundational problem. This is another reason why people also like to talk about "gut health." -- For some reason, people think this is some pseudocience bullshit. It doesn't matter to me, but it's something to consider... The idea that "imbalance in the body is bad for you sounds like pseudoscience" is some of the most inane soykaf I've ever heard, and the fact that I have seen it on a website that sometimes discusses body mods and noots make me question a lot about certain users. >cold showers, do they work It depends on what you're after. Is it good for you? Yes, it increases your blood flow, helps regulate your test./est. levels, makes your skin better, etc. There are a lot of nice benefits that you lose with hot water. Although, that doesn't mean hot water doesn't have its place, especially when it comes to muscle fatigue or relaxation. >addiction Stop doing it. Everytime you slip up, restart. If you really want to fix it, you will. >hobbies Take the hobbies one at a time. You can't just make a sudden massive change and expect results, usually. Some people can do this, but most people don't have the disclipline. People who need advice about "cold showers" (instead of just jumping in and trying it for a week or two) and accuse it of potentially being "useless middle age men advice" don't have much in the way of willpower. My advice? Keep trying to be better, but spend less time debating simple things. If you want to talk about dietary soykaf and all that, that's different. But it's a cold shower, man. The nords go for swims in below freezing lakes. For fun. You'll be fine in 10 - 15 C water for a few minutes.

>>40670 it just helps to wake me up and i found out it's better for my hair. also much less expensive gas bill. that's it. for the porn, just do it 2-3 times a week. it's a matter of discipline. learn to say no many times, and work out every day but one (best if outside under the sun). extort your body and learn to do hard stuff. never stagnate as stagnation is death for your body and mind. muscles grow only if they feel they need to so you have to do harder and different stuff. same for the mind.
XERXES · 2024-05-10 00:08
>porn addiction OP, I have a question: Are you religious or have some sort of weird shame regarding sex? Why do you consider yourself to be addicted to porn? Let me ask you, why do you need to overcome your porn addiction? In what way is it hindering your life? Do you have an overactive sex drive? Is it to fill a hole? What are your past circumstances? What are your current circumstances? Is there anything bothering you in the present? When did your porn addiction start? Look for a connection. Do you spend time on NSFW imageboards? Do you want a girlfriend? Do you have a girlfriend? If you do, are you satisfied in your relationship? Trauma? Sexual abuse? Mommy issues? Daddy issues? There's so many questions that need to be asked before it's possible to address the issue. The causes of porn addiction vary from individual to individual. But try to find when your porn addiction started and see if there was anything going on around the same time. I'd say don't try to hop to getting rid of the addiction immediately but instead try some heuristics. Consider what's going through your mind before and after masturbation. Search for patterns. I think hitting the gym should be the first step. But I've found in my case, it doesn't actually help anything. At times, I think it's very unhelpful because it assumes you've tried nothing. >>40671 >really most mental illnesses That's a major generalization. I don't think suggesting that is helpful. I agree with you that vitamin defiencies are often overlooked along with other possible physical causes when it comes to mental illnesses, but having multiple family members with severe mental illnesses and having witnessed them in active psychosis, it's not as easy as taking vitamins and getting better. It seriously dismisses the life-long struggles of many people and reduces it to something that can be fixed with an over the counter product, when for them, it simply can't. If I remember correctly, you actually have to rule out possible physical causes to be even able to meet the criteria for diagnosis that mental illness, but I may be wrong. >Stop doing it. Everytime you slip up, restart. If you really want to fix it, you will. What kind of bullcrap is that? That legitimately goes against the definition of an addiction. It's not as simple as "stop." If it were, then it wouldn't be an addiction. Many times, an addiction is a symptom of a bigger issue, usually going in one's personal life. Addictions are usually used as a means of escape. There's a chance he may need to change something in his own life before he can conquer his actual addiction. Look into the Rat Park study. >But Alexander wondered: is this about the drug or might it be related to the setting they were in? To test his hypothesis, he put rats in “rat parks,” where they were among others and free to roam and play, to socialize and to have sex. And they were given the same access to the same two types of drug laced bottles. When inhabiting a “rat park,” they remarkably preferred the plain water. Even when they did imbibe from the drug-filled bottle, they did so intermittently, not obsessively, and never overdosed. A social community beat the power of drugs.

I've heard that too, and I tried it. It's nonsense. So is going for a walk, eating healthier, or any of the other things "normal people" suggest. These are things happy and healthy people _do_. They don't cause happy and healthy people. Mimicking the behaviour of healthy cells does not create a healthy cell. Ergo it won't help you if you're mentally ill. I tried so many things. Things recommended by specialists and laymen. You can see the logic in their explanations, and your body can react to these situations, enough to convince yourself they do _something_, but they don't help, alleviate, or aid in the cure of mental illness. The only thing that has helped has been psychedelics. Now that I'm not in that headspace anymore, and you've reminded me about this, I will try cold showers for a week and report back. If you're mentally ill (depressed) cold showers will not help. They just make you feel like soykaf. If you're not depressed? Well, this is my experiment now...

Cold showers can help stimulate the brain when on your head. It actually can increase testosterone levels a little ironically. But you only need to be in it a few minutes. It is stupid to make it so cold it tortures you, that isnt the point. I just take a warm shower then a short cold one maybe two no more than five minutes after to constrict my pores and my hair shafts. You don't so much have a porn addiction as you have a time management problem most likely.

>>40671 OP Here >Do you even have a foundation for this or are you just finding reasons to not do something? I think you are trying to suppose things that you have no idea of. I apologize for my grammar mistakes on >>40670 I said that i was going to do it regardless of my current bias, and that the only reason as to why i was asking for advice and experience, was because i wanted to get a thread going. Thanks for taking the time to answer lain, i took a cold shower in the morning and JESUS it took me like 30 minutes to actually decide to go in, but it felt nice afterwards.

Been doing it before my government told me to in order to show it to Putler (our country was energy dependent on Russia and arguably still is). Even during the winter. Started out of a curiosity to see how far I could push myself. Now I do it to save on the gas bill. But afterwards I've never regretted it and during warm days feels nice and usually raises the mood. Heard it leads to some serotonin production. It also induces the body to warn up a little to compensate for the temporary cold you've subjected yourself under but if it's still cold, make a hot tea right after. Plus it cuts down the time I spend in the shower so yes, I can recommend. When experimenting with cold exposure your main attention should be on your core temperature. If it's high you can go for a jog in shorts while it's snowing but if it's low you will feel cold even with a sweater on. Also I wouldn't fish for answers by calling something useless or medieval. That's how you set the tone for adversarial responses. >>40673 >Is it to fill a hole? If it was that he wouldn't need to squeeze his pickle, would he? Try to remove "triggers" and make it more difficult to retrieve every time you feel like you need a goon sesh. Also find something else to do since you know, idle hands..

>>40673 >That's a major generalization. Shut the fuarrrk up. You didn't read what I said properly. >I don't think suggesting that is helpful Of course you don't. Oy vey, pop the pills guys!11!one! I was explicit about it when I said: >They're a good starting point to help you figure out if the issue is actually there or if it's just a foundational problem Allow me to translate this for you: >FIGURE OUT IF ITS A SIMPLE DIETARY ISSUE AND THEN MOVE ON TO THE MENTAL, IF ITS NOT. How can you write all these fuarrrking words when you can't even pay attention to the ones you are attempting to respond to. Are you illiterate or just stupid? >What kind of bullcrap is that? It's called not being too hard on yourself and recognizing that you have a problem and that it's an uphill struggle. Plenty of people will outright give up when they start over on day zero multiple times. The idea is making great advancement. This time it might only be two weeks, next time it could be 2 months, and the time after that they might lose count. So, don't be a daft cunt. I know what I'm talking about. Oh wait. You don't, because you're an illiterate nigger. >There's a chance he may need to change something in his own life before he can conquer his actual addiction Welcome to "self improvement" -- Where you observe your flaws and begin to correct them, or attempt to. You remove the other toxic elements that surround whatever you're attempting to escape. And so on. How the fuarrrk did you not pick up on this? Jesus Christ. You should go back. >>40685 >I think you are trying to suppose things that you have no idea of No, I'm actually asking the question. I don't need to presuppose anything, you gave plenty of information. I'm glad it helped. Good job following through with it.
Dr. X · 2024-05-11 20:21
>>40698 Calm your tits. Jesus. I read every part of your post, but it doesn't detract from the fact that you said MOST people that are diagnosed with schizophrenia don't have it, as if it's not fuarrrking hard to be diagnosed with such an illness, anyway. If you were only talking about individuals who suspected they had schizophrenia, then I would have agreed with you. When you spoke about "foundational problems," you wrote as if you were explaining to OP why people always suggest hitting the gym first, not as if you were telling OP, directly, that those are the steps he should take. >Of course you don't. Oy vey, pop the pills guys!11!one! That's not what I said or attempted to imply, motherfucker. Don't assume soykaf. The basic fuarrrking gist is that vitamins aren't a goddamned magical bullet for true severe mental illnesses. Medication should be an absolute last resort for the most serious of cases. >Welcome to "self improvement" -- Where you observe your flaws and begin to correct them, or attempt to. You remove the other toxic elements that surround whatever you're attempting to escape. None of your post implied that. >How the fuarrrk did you not pick up on this? Jesus Christ. You should go back. Suck my cock. Your post pretty much implied, "Just stop. It's that easy. Stop making excuses. Do this simple soykaf." Surely you asked OP, "Do you even have a foundation for this or are you just finding reasons to not do something?" but it came off not as a genuine question but as a dismissal. Maybe don't be such an obtuse dickwad, and take the fuarrrking tampon out of your pussy.

>>40685 That's really helpful. >>40698 Sage, a few pointers...? >"It's about not being too hard on yourself and recognizing that you have a problem and that it's an uphill struggle. Plenty of people will outright give up when they start over on day one multiple times. The idea is making great advancement." I recommend that as a quotation. >"self improvement is about observating your flaws and begin to correct them, or attempt to, removing the other toxic elements that surround whatever you're attempting to escape, and so on" I recommend that as a quotation, too. You're daft funny. >OP is illiterate? Not even correct, the OP's more like an independant, normal user who's up for advice. Anyway, jumping in the cold shower helps if you're having a day on the beach and relaxing under the heat of the sun.
Turner · 2024-05-13 17:48
You're not wrong. Like exercise, cold showering increases cortisol, i.e. stress. I don't think it's a coherent thing to do, to be honest.
Cereal Killer · 2024-05-14 06:29
>>40670 I used to get a cold shower in the morning in highschool to help wake up, and a warm one at night to help relax. I was more mentally healthy then, and so I tried to take cold showers more when I started slipping, as well as trying to stop masturbating. I failed because I didn't care enough any more, and the cold showers were one fascet of a lifestyle of caring about life. >>40674 Going for a walk does help a little, if you have a little mental health it gives you calm and stimulating surroundings and an opportunity for the wise parts of your mind to take control, make a plan, and stop reacting to electronic stimulation. If you're a total mess yeah, maybe-maybe not. 'normal person advice' is going to be better than 'failure' advice, particularly if they're your relatives, it's just that you need to make sure it's actually for your problem, as you say, not the problems of a normal person lifestyle, but often normal people have had and overcome the problems we today have. >>40675 >You don't so much have a porn addiction as you have a time management problem most likely. VERY true at least for me. And I think the time management problem often exists because of your inner beliefs and lifestyle. I'm more happy with my inner beliefs now, and have a life with more love, and I haven't felt like masturbating in a few days, though we'll see. >>40737 Supposedly exercise increases brain derived neurotrophic factor in fact because it causes damage, and the body over-responds to the damage by improving you. Hard to tell what is what with these complex systems.

Cold showers help me start a day
Cowboy · 2024-05-26 07:16
I like taking a cold shower before going to bed. It's quick, and lying down in a warm bed right afterwards feels nice. Re: all the anons here commenting on porn: Let people not enjoy stuff. If OP wants to stop, I am sure he will feel better if he achieves his goal. Stop saying stuff like "limit it to n times a month" or "why should you stop in the first place". It only makes it more difficult.
William Holtzer · 2024-05-26 19:58
>>41014 Talked to my dad today, and he emphasized living life in a loop of 'make a plan, do the plan, see if it worked and change it if not.' I think that's a good rule for the porn stuff, keep changing your approach til you find something which works, rather than committing to one thing if you think you can do better. Same with showers, I've been taking cool showers lately and I find them more pleasant than cool or hot, but you gotta try things.

I'm more happy with my inner beliefs now, and have a life with more love, and I haven't felt like masturbating in a few days, though we'll see. Yes, for me I lose time constantly just because I get lost in thought and can't focus on anything so any task takes much longer than it should take. If I surf the internet all day it isn't because I am addicted to the internet it's because I have nothing I feel I am able to do and I am not doing things efficiently enough so the time spent on any one thing becomes enormous. I used to take 3 hour showers even because I would get lost in thought while in the shower.
Dox · 2024-07-06 01:38
The cold shower helps against muscle pain, helps against premature ejaculation, and improves the immune system: After bathing with it you will feel more energetic, unlike hot water which relaxes the body more.
Koos van der Merwe · 2024-07-06 10:13
I take cold showers all the time. >Hard work in the yard, or just exercise until "fuarrrk it" >Crunch a clove of garlic down raw with a bit of milk >Coldest shower possible Makes me cough up chunky smoker's loogies almost every time, I don't even smoke anymore. It's a ritual I attribute to the many claims people make about their benefits, and I call it "Seafoam for the bloodstream," but I don't necessarily do it to fix anything about myself, nor do I have any specific opinions to convey beyond that even if 90% of the plethora claims are invalid hype train 'ancient wisdom' bullkaf, the 10% that is true is worth the occasional mild discomfort.

>>40670 Its a shower. Just fųcking try it. 2-3 minutes to scrub yourself down and get out. If you cant handle that start doing 30s cold as you can handle at the end of a normal shower. Then work up to a minute, two minutes, etc. Blasting energizing music can help. If you wanna go further go look into Wim Hof and other breathwork
