Login/auth blocks
The Plague · 2024-01-06 07:17
Hey tech wizards, you may remember me from last year when I spoke about a false claim ban imposed by a scraper website. However, I cannot tolarate login/auth blocks on social media as well as NSFW content being widely affected. Both of these had clearly lead straight to the internet as a whole becoming more locked down and nonfunctional, making scrapers impossible to extract files, people to view stuff they like, etc. This should all be combatted so people can view them without an issue.
The sites I found to have been affected so far by these login/auth blocks are Twitter/X and Tumblr, starting from 2022 onward. For NSFW content blocks, I found Twitter, Tumblr, Newgrounds, deviantART (when searching specific content) and, most recently, Steam.
There needs to be a way to curb this without auth.

Use alternate frontends. For example, instead of Twitter, use nitter. privacydev.net is my current instance of choice, it works around auth walls for NSFW.
Tumblr works fine over Tor (but you do need a login). Whatever, just sign up with a disposable untraceable email.
Tor is increasingly blocked or captcha'd due to ClownFlare and ClownFront, so sadly I've had to start relying more on private VPN services. The good news is that normal people use VPNs now, so corps don't want to block them in most circumstances.
Ultimately, the best way to work around sites that require auth and a residential IP is to use a privacy-friendly alternative, or fuarrrking go outside or something

>"nitter.privacydev.net is my current instance of choice, it works around auth walls for NSFW"
Trouble is, most nitter instances aren't fixing it due to the fact that NSFW accessibility depends on the country the instance runs in, and potentially the country from which its guest accounts were made.
To quote:
>Checked a dozen instances. Not actually fixed.
nitter.net and other instances - if you are looking for NSFW content-based accounts - seem to have been missing pictures, see this link: https://github.com/zedeus/nitter/issues/1040

>"Use alternate frontends"
>"increasingly blocked or captcha'd"
I really wish for login/auth blocks to shut down on socials and all types of content to be free from "login with email/age consent" warnings without the need for alternate frontends.
NSFW content restrictions had impacted Steam recently in concerns to games or existing mods for games via Workshop. Things used to be marked as "content may not be appropriate for all audiences" but now it seems to be on an "are you sure to view it" page or even blocked. Pic attached; this happened when I was trying to view a game published by Taylor McCue.

I found this on nitter.
Normally, agecheck would read:
This game may contain content not appropriate for all ages, or may not be appropriate for viewing at work.
Please enter your birth date to continue...
This instance said: You must login to see this content.
This happened with some mods that couldn't be visibly seen on Steam Workshop as well.

Looks like it works fine, you just have to use a server not hosted in a soykafhole. It's not Twitter's fault that various localities have retarded laws requiring censorship. Nitter is the best alternative to not using Twitter at all.
I don't like it either, we should all just be using the Fediverse but that's the network effect for you
Nanashi No Gombe · 2024-01-06 09:22
Going back, there needs to be a way to curb all of these problems without auth/alternate frontends. Like, way before these blocks were added.

Here's another one I found. e621.net has a couple of blacklists - and one globally affects the 'young' tag on scraped images rated Q and E unless logged in. This is because of legality issues.
https://github.com/Bionus/imgbrd-grabber/issues/2414
I learnt a lesson here. Don't click on the arrows for image pages on site unless you want an affected image to throw up a 'login to view' message. Now I was angry because github repos are failing to scrape the hidden images.
At least these programs work around:
https://e621.net/forum_topics/25850
https://e621.net/forum_topics/26236
But ever since I encountered such a big issue that fits here, I really want the people that run e621.net to permanently shut down the global blacklist for anons so that affected images could be scraped again.
The global blacklist for anons affecting specific scraped images is just like the other login/auth blocks.
Crazy Jake · 2024-01-06 13:40

e621.net is tricky to get past a age-gate pop-up if you are using the site for the first time but ESC key works if you press it at the right time.
Formerly, any posts containing the tag 'young' and a rating other than Safe could be scraped without problems. This 'young -rating:s' block had gone too far, even on github repos.
The people that run e621.net need to get their act together, permanently shut down the global blacklist for anons because it acts like the other login/auth blocks, and I hope they never make the mistake ever again.
Here's another github repo that mentions the block: https://github.com/McSib/e621_downloader/issues/35

I know the whereabouts of a man who did something that resulted in a life-lasting trauma that haunts my girlfriend to this day. She has a mental disorder and chronic suicidality.
She grew up with an abusive father who often left her and her younger brothers on their own. Their father had shady business with different people and they had access to their house with the door unlocked. Some people hated him so much, one day they decided to take their anger out on his children, with her being the oldest at the age of 5. They entered the house when the father was absent and discovered that other adults from the neighbors who often hung out there looking after the children weren't around. They forced her to undress herself and to undress her brother. Then they took out the cellphones and started filming, forcing her to fuarrrk her 3 year old brother. He doesn't remember any of it. After they got enough of that they sent her brother away into a room and took turns masturbating in her mouth. She was terrified, after they left she cleaned herself, dressed her brother up and never told anybody about what happened. As a result she became very withdrawn in school and at home.
One of the men died years ago. Recently it became known that the other is still in the city and lives at a different address. It's been 20 years.

>>39472
>How would you tolarate login walls/NSFW auth blocks if the Netherlands is the only one to allow these?
I'm unsure of what you mean exactly, but I see two ways to see this question
If you mean in the sense the Netherlands is the only one to allow login walls, than my answer is simply that I won't tolerate it. I'm not from the Netherlands, but an evil still persists in a part of the world.
If you mean in the sense that the Netherlands is the only one to allow the subjects you linked in your post, well, it's kind of a shame. Usually region locks are put in place by the author of the game in the first place. It's rare that it's because of a company or country but it has happened in the past. like is the case with Nintendo with its old region lock system for the 3DS or Australia for certain types of content. I can somewhat begrudgingly tolerate it if it is under the wishes of the individual AKA the author, but otherwise it is like kicking dead whales down the beach and these regulations/practices have to go too.
>Like how can you improve Steam Workshop for things that were blocked recently and turn them into better SFW mods?
(this line was also a tongue twister but i think i eventually understood it)
I'm conflicted here. Steam says in their rules says they don't allow explicit content (evidentially, publicly with no acc) and I have to respect it, but it also allows valve to point to that rule and say this is why they need a login wall. (saying it violates a rule but can tolerate it if its behind a wall) Unfortunately, with my values, I have to respect Valve's right of setting that boundary on their private platform. (I don't share that same sentiment with the forced blacklist on e6 that was mentioned in this thread. I understand that It's the best of both world because of legal reasons, where stuff isn't deleted but hidden from view without an account from normal people, but I have stronger opinions than just "conflicted" here because it comes from a silly legal issue that is a reason why the internet is going to soykaf. which seems to be unlike Steam where it is a private decision from the start. Just taking this opportunity to add nuance on my stance.)
So, to answer, There's no way to improve steam workshop externally from Valve unless its with some sort of political power or within the company. Unless you are referring to the mods, then the only way is to follow the guidelines or post somewhere else.
I do have to give the mod creator, in the link you posted, credit for dancing around the rules and making something acceptable with no wall yet still suggestive. Valve seem pretty lax all in all compared to other companies.
Still wished that it wasn't a rule and there was no wall on some content, but can i tolerate it.
I do have to lay out my cards here and say that I use Steam and never had a problem accessing anything because i'm pretty much always logged in. So this is a new problem to me that i never had to deal with, unlike social medias, where i battle these systems on the daily because i'm commonly not logged in and don't want to. I do recognize, however, that the two situations in general are the exact same.
The more keen eyed lainon here may also notice that my logic seems to clash and contradict itself and to be honest i'm still trying to formulate my stance. I know "login wall bad" but I seem to have some tolerance if the decision comes from the individual/a private entity that owns a private platform rather than just a reason to appease banks/shareholders or/and the law to a significant degree. (the main reason i believe the clearnet is riddled with these stupid auth checks and constant policing.)
That's it for my tedtalk, good god.

>Netherlands is the only one to allow NSFW subjects I linked
From what I read on Desuchan's homepage, companies and/or specific laws in the Netherlands to host NSFW content. nitter privacydev.net handles this from some locations like this one.
As for the second question in my previous post, the reason why I suggested better, quality-of-life mods on Steam Workshop was "how can you improve existing mods for people to subscribe/download?" - not just in the wake of the recent NSFW content blocks thanks to Steam's newest algorithm, but also mainstream.
>I do have to give the mod creator, in the link you posted, credit for dancing around the rules and making something acceptable with no wall yet still have content warnings
First off, this was the same person who created the Ask Lil’ Miss Rarity webcomic. A persistent mob removing ALMR and a few personal blogs in 2012 was what kicked off this entire report: https://web.archive.org/web/20151002224425/http://noponyofnote.tumblr.com/post/34428001389/terms-and-conditions
I had trouble finding it recently; it was on TBoI:Rebirth's Most Subscribed mods via Steam Workshop before the person hidden it behind a content warning.
Even when I looked up the creator's mod list it fetched no results.

Newgrounds were copying Twitter in handling NSFW login/auth blocks. There was a bug in regards to high volume of new accounts/associated anti-spam API calls, meaning that one wouldn't need age consent/account registration to use until they managed to put the restrictions back up.
Clicking on the A content icon in gallery search would still throw up the login prompts, despite the bug affecting images in user profiles (prior to the bugfix).

>what NSFW content blocks really look like
The image's a bloodier version of Newgrounds's tiny version of the 'restricted content, 18+' icons that I'm getting sick of. The whole point of this is NSFW content is not just being blocked, it's suffering like some incurable disease in terms of accessing them without age/account consents.
Pics related, as if they were responses to NSFW content being mass-blocked from guests. Source is PixelJail - while I found plenty of links in images to a video they made on Braag.net (alt site for viewing NSFW content), most of them had been affected by the age restrictons on NG, which has got to stop, just like with everything else that we had sewn so far.

Years ago, they let you access things for free because they wanted that sweet monopoly. They have that now, we gave it to them in exchange of free services. Now that they have the monopoly it is expected for them to monetise it by easy data harvesting.

I'm talking about reversing this ordeal the internet is facing on a really good community imageboard that's geared towards ICT, tech troubleshooting, the lot. Not being rude or anything, but I really want you to come back and reply, and get a nice hot cup of tea if you could.
This is why I'm bumping this. This thread's important regarding social media auth blocks/content auth filters, so I really want you to come back to this thread ASAP.

In my belief, this thread is supposed to be pinned because it's important like how charites are helping Gaza and Ukraine. I want people who are on this imageboard to help protest here, obviously, against the auth blocks that are cutting accessiblity on the web short, ie. Tumblr blocking, and on top of that, banning NSFW material in 2018. I hope this is acceptable.

Unfortunately, no. Nitter's good for Twitter/X but their auth is buggy for some reason, come to think of it. I checked the link, but if something needs to shut down entirely because it is causing restricted access to people browsing the internet, that's not my problem at least.
Had anybody been through e621.net's galleries and found a link where it says "some images may be hidden because you need to sign in to view them"?
https://e621.net/help/blacklist (Look at the "Please keep in mind that unless you are logged in, any posts containing the tag young and a rating other than Safe will not be displayed..." part)
https://e621.net/help/global_blacklist (they did this because of legality issues)
https://e621.net/forum_topics/25804
https://github.com/McSib/e621_downloader/issues/31
This is wrong as any posts containing young rating:-s should be displayed on-site. Even the young tag is on the normal blacklist, but it only picks up Safe images.
I want the global young rating:-s blacklist completely disabled because this is killing access to people viewing them.
The accounts should not be mandatory to view that kind of content. If you go to the page without being logged you will get "You must be logged in to view this image. (learn more)" which in my opinion should actually not exist.

Steam's "login-based" agecheck affects everything relating to AO-rated games on their store and worse, spreads to game community hubs and/or Workshop mods.
This is a serious breach of trust by killing off a lot of games with such a robust filtering system for account-less clients, like Fear and Hunger or HFTGOOM (the latter is more obvious because Taylor McCue said on Twitter that the filters "[would] likely work against it being seen").
https://store.steampowered.com/account/preferences really is like kicking dead whales down the beach, it's everywhere on their Help and Tips forums.
Imagine Valve says "Adult Only Sexual Content would not need to be unchecked as a guest" and it works without these stupid filters because companies are making age-gates/consents/login D.O.B.'s a constant nightmare.

Steam needs to bring back the notices on screenshots, not hide the images because they were 100% accessable to image scrapers.
I was trying to find other instances of 'login to view' on Steam forums but came up empty.

Tumbig is having problems
HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE
Splicer · 2024-02-02 16:22
>>39621
GitHub isn't showing ANYTHING on Google in regards to Tumbig issuing 403 errors whenever I am trying to search for stuff. Is this a bug?
This had happened recently before midinght got a chance to strike, and I was trying to investigate more of those 'post-2018 ban' blogs when a 403 error popped up on three tabs in regard to those blogs. I thought that the blogs needed logins or consents, but every search or refresh bought the same 403 error forward, to which I realized this was not possible. Tumbig's supposed to give 404 errors for dead blogs, but this? How on Earth did that happen? What's causing this issue? Is this a bug or the entire site going offline? Has anybody checked Tumbig only to find this bug?
The real kicker; could this be a malware attack that led Tumbig to send out 403s?
Could anybody look into the problem?
Jet Black · 2024-02-03 02:24

Could anybody look into the problem? The bug is still present.
Here is an example of Tumbig really working before the site kept issuing 403 errors, which again I realized is not possible because they hamdle 404s.
Other questions:
>Is this to with a security certificate that expired recently like nitter.net? If so, would there be a bugfix?
>Is it to do with NSFW spambots?
>Is this because the site shut down due to unknown reasons?
>Who owns Tumbig? If so, could anybody talk to them about the 403 bug?

From NotMeNotYou: "This blacklist has been added because we've been constantly getting heckled by government officials of foreign nations that our content is illegal in their jurisdiction, and that we need to comply or they'll ban us, send the feds on us, set our crops on fire, and generally be annoying. And it's not just been us, but also our host that has gotten these legitimate threats. So in order to protect everybody, we've had to take a rather drastic step to curb those people from bothering us.
"As such we absolutely intent to have that blacklist continue to exist simply so we can stop having to play whack-a-mole with those people."
Any posts in e621.net containing young rating:-s is affected regardless of changes to a custom blacklist, this is because of legal issues as a GitHub repo said.
I mean young is also in the custom blacklist as a preset but young rating:-s is still present. I think is this a stupid idea to make an on-site client blacklist for CP art? Considering that we are also stopping the cp2 spammer attacks on /q/, is e621.net trying to also control CP? Rather than just deleting it, e621.net are trying to brush it under a carpet to get away from the federal police.
Searching for young rating:-s ; young rating:q and young rating:-e had fetched no results for guests when CLEARLY I know it should find images scraped from login-walled sites for them to archive elsewhere. See the image for reference.
There are some scraper galleries that allow young rating:-s for guests, but for e621, I am confused right now.

Going forwards, do robots.txt/antivirus affect login blocks?
I use McAfee and I had been browsing older posts on Uboachan (where my complaints impacted a lot of you, possibly due to my own threads being inactive). But do the issues impact this topic? Because I think from what I've seen is only sites that do loginwalls don't have a disallow command in robots.txt or McAfee says it's risky :s

Anyway, Desuchan closed /loli/ in 2011, reopened it a year later (if not less), and closed it again because of legal matters, like e621.net had recently.
Desuchan announced in 2014 that they had moved to a new URL while /loli/ was still shut down (thus the homepage redirects) before it came back online after 9-10 years... but to be honest, I'm not sure if this was to do with CP control, spam attacks or anything out of the blue.

STOP CONFESSING YOUR PROBS HERE AND PAY ATTENTION
I cannot tolarate login/auth blocks on social media as well as NSFW content being widely affected. Both of these had clearly lead straight to the internet as a whole becoming more locked down and nonfunctional, making scrapers impossible to extract files, people to view stuff they like, etc.
This should all be combatted so people can view them without an issue - that means NO MIRRORS OR AUTH TOKENS. LET THEM BE FREE.

just checking you understand how nitter works. they need the guest accounts access the api to get the posts. twitter stopped exposing posts any other way, so other scraping methods aren't an option, that i know. if your use case for nitter was "viewing twitter without logging in", that was only possible through those guest accounts, and so their removal has killed your use. there is nothing the nitter developers can do to restore it, unless you had other intentions for using nitter, but this thread is pretty single-issue so far. rate-limiting was the generic error message for when a server ran out of guest accounts, which they all have, because they all expired and the api has been closed. the certificate has expired because the developer was only focused on bypassing the login requirement, so they have no more interest in the project, although that wouldn't affect instances other than the main instance. whilst i'm here: have you spoken to anybody not on the internet about this? because to be honest i don't think this is getting any better, and in that instance i would feel better knowing you had someone real to speak to. not like anybody on an imageboard is going to open dialogue. you already seem aware this isn't good for you [>>39617]

I think Nitter was being too kind to the rules
There are download services on (ad-riddled) sites that will let me download pics/videos from "nsfw" posts. and services like fxtwitter have no problem fetching data, too.
I have no solutions to propose yet, only tools, because I'm not well versed in that field. I'm still scratching my head on how to find urls without the need of someone's account. but if one somehow finds a way to fetch only urls, you could use a service like fxtwitter to fetch the remaining data.
There are a drawback to this I identified: It is possible that you'd be abusing using a free open-source service and putting some strain on it.
Also, twitter could go around and axe does projects, too.

GitHub users discovered that most Nitter instances weren't fixing it due to the fact that NSFW accessibility depended on the country the instance ran in, and potentially the country from which its guest accounts were made. If you were looking for NSFW content-based accounts after that issue, they seemed to have missing pictures. No age/DOB verification tombstones, but NSFW accounts were buggy beyond belief. See: https://github.com/zedeus/nitter/issues/1040
PrivacyDevel's version of Nitter fixed NSFW content blocks, which was done by checking for NSFW content as a guest token before using an authenticated request. Authenticated requests were rate-limited, but were very handy in scraping specific items! See: https://github.com/PrivacyDevel/nitter/issues/26
>Download services on (ad-riddled) sites that will let me download items from age/DOB-blocked posts
One of the things you can try is uBlockOrigin for an ad-free experience.
Here's the main GitHub repo for fxtwitter: https://github.com/FixTweet/FxTwitter
>"I'm still scratching my head on how to find URLs without the need of someone's account."
Image scraper galleries work, like e621.net or furbooru.org if you want specific images. If you scroll down on an image page, you can see the source details (this is handy if you want to archive images from e621.net that are affected by a global and/or custom blacklist). Remember that there's a age-based consent/javascript pop-up thingy, but it's like those sites that use cookies.
>"Twitter could go around and axe projects"
This is a huge worry for a lot of people if they want guest accessibility from alternate social sites. However, Tumbig is still thriving.

I'm wanting people to protest e621.net's global blacklist as I have stated time and time again - hiding specific images because people logging in to view them is not acceptable any longer, at least for me. I don't care on a custom blacklist.
Every single page I saw was met with the same "post(s) on this page were hidden because you need to be logged in to view them" message, but this hit 75 images on each page. Even when you do remove young from the the custom blacklist, everything that was there is still completely hidden if you're not logged in.
Instead, they should rewrite it to say "post(s) on this page were hidden because it is filtered by your custom preferences" because having a global blacklist is annoying every page whenever I am trying to save images. At least the affected images can be archived.

I wish for people, including me, to write angry emails to companies to reverse all their login/auth blocks and NSFW content blocks on specific websites. These had gone way too far for the internet and us all, since this had made it, as a whole, becoming more locked down and nonfunctional.
I really wish for companies to reverse these blocks for good. Not using alternate frontends or GitHub repos per se, but make them scrub their own blocks from the planes of existence. I wish it was done - with brute force, so much so that companies would think twice before permitting such blocks. It's all their fault for blocking guest accessibility, not just censorship.

>A number of policy changes enacted by the popular social networks Facebook and Tumblr (the latter having been well known for having liberal policies regarding adult content) to restrict the posting of sexual content on their respective platforms have also been cited as examples of proactive censorship in the wake of the law, and a wider pattern of increased targeted censorship towards LGBT communities.
https://www.pcmag.com/news/tumblr-explains-why-it-still-bans-porn-blame-credit-card-companies-apple
>“Credit card companies are anti-porn,” he says, citing how both Visa and Mastercard stopped accepting payments on Pornhub after the adult video site was found hosting child sexual abuse videos. As a result, Mullenweg is concerned that if Tumblr permits porn back on the platform, it’ll get caught up in some controversy that’ll force Visa and Mastercard to crack down on both Tumblr and WordPress.

>Now to the less pleasant blacklist, the global one. This blacklist has been added because we've been constantly getting heckled by government officials of foreign nations that our content is illegal in their jurisdiction, and that we need to comply or they'll ban us, send the feds on us, set our crops on fire, and generally be annoying. And it's not just been us, but also our host that has gotten these legitimate threats. So in order to protect our (and your) asses we've had to take a rather drastic step to curb those people from bothering us. As such we absolutely intent to have that blacklist continue to exist simply so we can stop having to play whack-a-mole with those people.
Back in 2018 FOSTA-SESTA was passed to "prevent" online sex trafficking, and banks and payment processors supported it. Combine that with corpos like Visa already being anti-porn and now they have justification to deny payment services to any site hosting NSFW content, regardless of the NSFW content involved real people or not. For whatever reason, login walls appears to be the best defense against Visa and FOSTA-SESTA (and similar laws), which is why most sites post 2018 added them in some form. There's also been a trend of trying to lock users down to a platform via content walls like this so the platforms can harvest user data to sell to data brokers.
tl;dr blame the government's soykafty ideas, prudes running major financial services, and platform owner's greed.

This hasnt been reversed yer? It had massive backlash from sex workers saying how dangerous and harmful it is to them and everyone online saw how companies started making rules against any nudity including of themselves suggesting they are looking through private images. There has to be a way to reverse it. Also ive found other concerning anecdotes of people getting locked out of accounts or having them deleted by companies that use hash check systems flag drawings that arent even illegal. This means people are being phoned to the FBI for any random image or video they want to add to the databases.

From what boggled my head, I've seen Tumblr being a prime example on flagging SFW images since late 2018 - recently new NSFW-based blogs have been showing up. It's like they are counter-acting the 2018 ban, given how they can safely bypass Tumblr's rules without noticing them.

On his Patreon (”False Alias”), he does a series of retro “Game Over” countdown videos, And I wanna do them with Abby as a stopgap between being able to do animations and having to do extended series like an animated short or a video game. Part one will be the initial countdown, with “Part 2” being the actual “Game Over” screen. I just have to learn how to use Photoshop for animation properly…"
Even the tags are disturbing:

I want Tumblr to bring back the ability to send anonymous asks without an account; I had not noticed it had changed a while back for security reasons, but sending anonymous asks without an account was one way I was able to lurk on tumblr for years before signing up for an account. And it's nice to not have to login sometimes. Why it is too much of a user safety risk when I went to tell Saunterwing that they hurt my feelings concerning post #179982627842 and they should get a wide-scoped ban on their accounts?

As a result of the sheer amount of abuse people were receiving from anonymous asks, Tumblr said it was "unavoidable but necessary" to require a login. I want Tumblr to roll that decision back. In truth, given the previous problems we've seen on Tumblr (NSFW blocks, login walls new interface and URLs), the site had killed its guest accessiblity in a short span of 5 years.

I've heard on BBC Radio 4 News that Ofcom has warned social media sites they could get derezzed for under-18s if they fail to comply with new online safety rules, publishing draft codes of practice which require tech firms to have more robust age-checking measures, and to reformulate their algorithms to steer children away from what it called "toxic" material.
>more robust age-checking measures
>algorithms reformulated to do so
Even a company has pushed these issues way too far. I want the internet to be unlimited, free from age-checking measures and auth blocks forever, not this. NEVER this.
Imagine algorithms were reformulated to reverse age-checking measures and auth blocks forever, people would more be happy to browse social media websites. They should either:
- protest Ofcom or
- use these methods with such force
These would never require alt frontends to jump to. Ofcom needs to be stopped because they are putting social media sites at risk - and I want you people here to understand social media sites should never, ever block guests from viewing/scraping anything.

Speaking of PixelJail, in 2023 they uploaded what I could consider an infamous incident regarding an animated video hit by the recent spike in NSFW content blocks.
Source: https://naughtyniche.art/product/bb1/ (same age-confirmation javascript issue like e621.net has)
>"This animation is completely free to watch online in full"
PixelJail posted stills of this via baraag.net and linked the full video to Newgrounds in each. However, https://baraag.net/@PixelJail/110182311525990839 contained a link to the video via https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/879987 but it had been blocked by the site's brute-forced "login to view" messages.
Refer to:
-https://www.reddit.com/r/Newgrounds/comments/12kfb4j/adult_section_backdoor_bypass_closed/ (NSFW-blocked)
I really want this reversed because I've grown sick of how the video can only be viewed with an 18+ account on the site or bought with an art book when I KNOW it should be reuploaded somewhere else that's free of these issues the internet is currently facing.
What Newgrounds had done to A-rated works is highly and massively unfair, despite a bug around two years ago.
(I forgot to spoiler the images the first time I posted this)

This thread's turned into a crackdown on sites putting up login auth walls, blocking NSFW content with login credentials or banning them altogether.
They should never do that. PixelJail promoted a half price sale via their Gumroad shop for people buying their comics, art books, etc. as they said the site "only thought 24 hours' notice was enough before implementing a ban on all NSFW content". When I checked PixelJail's Gumroad storefront, they were still selling items, leading me to think, was Gumroad's ban botched?
I checked Gumroad's changed rules and they wouldn't allow new accounts to sell products if they contained NSFW content. That site's better than Tumblr's NSFW ban in 2018.

Reddit still blocks NSFW content with age-gates, but on the oldest interface (old.reddit.com) they still seem to ask you your age to set permissions. What the hell is going on?
They should not do it. On mobile, I thought NSFW content was accessable.

In regards to https://old.reddit.com/r/offmychest/comments/xxub2b/log_in_to_confirm_youre_over_18/ the user FelineFriendly1 said that these age-gates aren't affected by Incognito Mode, and contain QR codes for downloading the mobile app, which contains a crucial element affected in recent years: Anonymous browsing.
From what I learnt from this, anonymous browsing is being killed by age-gates and login walls on several social media websites. I want the future of the internet browsing restored in this way:
>No alt frontends
>No Github repos
When it comes to NSFW content, I want anonymous browsing for scraping them, no blocks or bans altogether. They should not be allowed on sites like Tumblr, for example, as they made surfing the web becoming more locked down and nonfunctional. Companies should reverse these blocks and bans for good/scrub their own blocks from the planes of existence. I wish it was done - with brute force, so much so that companies would think twice before permitting such blocks. It's all their fault for blocking guest accessibility, not just censorship, like these links for login/auth blocks:

I wanted to view videos via Piped as normally expected, but fetched a new error about logging in to confirm that the user's not a bot. To reproduce, one would need to view a video on different Piped instances. I use piped.kavin.rocks and piped.video as an alternate to YouTube in recent years.
I was attempting to watch this video (https://piped.video/watch?v=6ZIGSUEfHGo) but you can see what's going on here, not a video and plenty recommendations. Is this an auth block or a glitch?

- The bug is reproducible and happens on multiple browsers and devices

- It affects all the software using YouTube
- It happens on any video, regardless of settings or instance

Pixiv was trying to keep out the credit card companies that forced them to restrict content that is fully legal in Japan and the US. The credit card companies being out of control policing the internet is the root cause of increase of logins required to view content.

In regards to affected mods via TBoI: Rebirth's Steam Workshop, I had recently found newer screenshots containing NSFW graphic mods. While the mods had been greatly affected by the site's age-gates, these images aren't. These images should be like a battle cry of "STEAM STOP AGE-GATING NSFW MODS RIGHT NOW"; I care about how NSFW content had been hurt by these restrictions and how I want it reversed properly by site staff, I don't care how many times Steam users uploaded game screenshots with the mods in them. All I can say is either companies get their act together or I feel like brute-forcing them.

> I did not know that at all. If this collapse is attributed to arbitrarily login blocks for social media and NSFW age-gates, how heavy is the impact on anonymous browsing?
It means your browsing habits would be more easily aggregated. Why it is happening is because anti porn conservative groups that disguise themselves as child protection groups such as The National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE) which was originally called Morality in Media kept trying to falsely report the credit card companies as funding on sites which only occasionally works but in reality if it ever is anything it always is just drawings which isnt illegal, or horny teens looking for attention rather than like little kids being abused or something like they want people to think because their end goal is outlawing or shutting down all pornographic content and nudity on the internet entirely.
>>41749
You have to go after all fronts. Cut off the money supply to these anti porn groups by finding out who funds them to know what to boycott and protest. Then tell credit card companies bullying websites you will never use their products or services so long as they do that. Then you can approach the websites as well.

This isn't just about porn. Although OP's examples contain alot of content of the sexual nature, these kinds of login walls are used even for the most benign of things like just accessing a website. Pinterest, for example. (and before you scream glitterboy use something than else pinterest, and i agree, this is not what i mean. the measure shouldn't be a thing in the first place. soykaf site or not.) This is not an acceptable tradeoff. There is literally no reason to make an account for anything. One can just make an account with bogus emails and info and access the content anyway, This isn't stopping anyone but the people that won't look up the stuff they are being blocked off to.

I wouldn't want to take advice from a self described mental and physical wreck for life. The only advice this guy is probably qualified to give is about how to be a not very successful gay prostitute, and how to lousily market your gay prostitute video games.
>there are no alts for steam afaik
well it sure looks like this person's game is available elsewhere I didn't try to buy or download it but I probably could if I want to. He's got interviews aplenty probably with blogs with some audience, maybe a vastly overlapping one. Its possible the market for gay prostitution video games is just actually rather small, and people going on steam are looking for something else. When I've gone on steam I'm certainly looking for autistic simulator games, and must say if I started seeing ads for 'he fuarrrked the girl out of me, a gay trans prostitutes journey' I would probably leave the site.
Starting a soykafty website isn't hard. Maybe if you care so much about gay tranny prostitution you should start the gay tranny prostitute turned game dev website so that all the aspiring gay tranny prostitutes can get their educational material easily and in one place, without the suppression of websites built for normal people and normal person adjacents. As far as I know such sites don't get screwed quite the same as neonazi hate sites like the daily stormer or kiwifarms, and lets face it the stormer and kiwifarms are both up and running fine, even though joshua moon is a complete incompotent (anglin though, that man can run a website).

Those are false flags by AI and not the YouTube community flagging anything cs188-related, nor cs188 self-flagging the videos. One of them was self-flagged by himself in 2011 (which used TLoZ CDi game cutscenes), that evidence is set in stone, but those aren't. And it's awful.
Apart from me, had anybody found this issue too?
(I had to rename some titles for rules' sake, but I had an older version of McAfee in the IE toolbars - I still have this program with this laptop! Also, happy 50th UK anniversary, McDonalds)

When I checked the Wayback Machine for archiving some of cs188's YouTube Poops on my external hard drive, they either got deleted or were made private because AI age-gating falsely flagged them all. What is going on with this?!

This advert on Reddit is incorrectly tagged as NSFW, it should not be. Same with Flaneer (back in 2022), see pic attached.
In regards to the old.reddit.com instance, I haven't tried using Incognito Mode for any over18? instances/asking for age consents or not; had anyone done that as well?
What version of Reddit is this in the screencap, as well as the latest version?

The image (that led up to age-restricted Steam Community Hub error) I linked in the previous post came from an unlicensed or some other game that's not on the Steam Store. I had archived some images on my hard drive but I really want things to change around here, like Twitter in both SFW and NSFW login blocks. I'd prefer it if NSFW stuff did not require ANY authentication for better accessibility.
As Sage pointed out, although my examples contain alot of NSFW content blocks, these kinds of login walls are used even for the most benign of things like just accessing a website.
Imagine this:
- Viewing SFW posts without an account will result in messages that had been preventing repos from accessing it
- Viewing NSFW posts without an account will result in messages that had been preventing repos from recording any data
- Both can stack up their effects
When it was 2000's, login walls and age-gates weren't there in the first place, obviously it's like all heck breaks loose for many, including me.

That was a big ordeal I went through with Steam IMO but I really felt concerned why NSFW screencaps were floating about on an entire Steam user's gallery. Suicide_boy24 was addressing the facts - NSFW content is dying.
But going back on topic, the links are the only ones I know of that contain login walls for browsing a site.

It's a clip from a very old cartoon I watched decades ago, I already forgot the name, sorry. I only vaguely remember it being about this awkward girl that gets sucked into her computer and then gets chased by secret agents because she is a very important for something. And I think it was made in Korea? Maybe China? I don't know, but I remember needing subtitles to understand what they were saying.

This is not a spam target of somebody else in any way possible, nor a post done by a mobile user.
The reason I made this thread was because I had grown sick of login blocks for corporate platforms in recent years, limiting accessibility on the internet as guests to various options. GitHub repos are getting affected, social media sites have been crippled, and the internet's being torn apart, like with FOSTA SESTA/NCOSE, causing this issue to be HUGE in my opinion. Many people had talked this through with me within 8 months, which is tantamount to stopping this problem.
I wish for all login blocks for corporate platforms, if any, wiped clean without the need of auth cookies, not bypassing them/filter settings etc.
Discord acts weird for me because it thinks I got invited to a server, so I'd rather not visit it.
I don't think you are a troll on the site but somebody that is really valued here, but not one of those people who care about the internet's accessibility to guests. It's a serious matter on my hands, however.
Pic related I guess?

I have archived Suicide_boy24's recent screencaps regarding a TBoI mod that was recently age-restricted by Steam, and I am fed up with this because I care about mods and I hate, hate, HATE how stupid age restrictions hit games/mods/etc. with a passion. The mod in question is a NSFW graphic overhaul that the person used (affecting recharge bars, item sprites etc.). Either it's me or I can't find it anywhere else on Steam.
I'll give you the shorthand: Same Steam user keeps bothering me with the same age-gate affected mod. Because soya-based tea jokes.

I'm getting really sick and tired of TBoI screenshots mentioning a NSFW graphic overhaul mod that was recently age-restricted by Steam when I know it should NOT have one; don't know the link for it or the name of the mod but it's SERIOUS.
Steam had gone WAY TOO FAR; Suicide_boy24 putting their screenshots out there is addressing my biggest complaint to Steam and wanting them to shut down NSFW content restrictions on their site FOREVER. It's bad, Steam is wholly wrong to hide a mod that screenshots by Steam users had been addressing. The site's crippled like everything else in regards to guest accessibility for specific mods and I CARE about them, zero logins, NOTHING. Suicide_boy24 (one of the users) put recent screenshots of their TBoI gameplay with a NSFW graphic overhaul mod, like they were addressing my biggest complaint to Steam of "I want
them to shut down NSFW content restrictions on their site FOREVER; NSFW content did not require ANY authentication in the long run for better accessibility."
There's more of this user's screenshots here from games that had been affected one way or another:

Some I'm okay with, but Tumblr and Twitter/X are wrecked on both guest and NSFW accessibility fronts while most of the sites had NSFW accessibility for guests gone like Newgrounds, for example.

Most people's exposure to the internet is through apps or Chrome, with all sites logged in, cookies on, and not a clue why any of it matters. This is just another facet of the surveillance panopticon.

That's true, but in post #40777 I said that anonymous browsing is a crucial element that had been affected in recent years by these restrictions. I wish for companies to reverse these blocks and bans for good/scrub their own blocks from the planes of existence as it's clear it's messing around with a future of internet browsing. That also coincides with a BBC News report on Ofcom putting social media sites at risk in the same way.
Otherwise, Piped had been fetching auth errors: https://github.com/TeamPiped/Piped/issues/3658
To reproduce, one would need to view a video on different Piped instances. I used piped.kavin.rocks and piped.video as an alternate to YouTube in recent years, and now it seemed to not work anymore because YouTube is sometimes unreachable because of forced log in testing. Guess it fits here; had anybody come across this on YouTube, Piped and Invidious? I'd be happy to know :)

MOverERR set the screenshot of the Dead God achievement replacer mod to private after a day of uploading; possibly to do with Steam's auth-block for NSFW content. I had not realized it until now that Steam users can set their screenshots to private or public.
Of course I had to bring up old nitter instances (but I use TwStalker nowadays) with this link: http://web.archive.org/web/20220701122116/https://github.com/zedeus/nitter/wiki/Instances

It will only get worse, there is an insane amount of money being invested on digital ID to ensure anonymity simply doesn't exist. Technically, it already doesn't exist but sauron's eye has to be looking at you already; The push is to make it universally established from end to end and thus much easier to manage.
Nothing is more dangerous to the established power structure than legitimate freedom of speech. They don't care about you screaming the truth into the void or bouncing your ideas around echo chambers that are tended by gatekeepers, but the potential for virality without brakes is unacceptable to the owner class.
The old days of the Internet are dead and gone for better or worse. Create a new protocol designed to fight it with some sort of killer application to drive adoption or deal with it. Those are the choices.

Okay, I got issues with a few private/locked accounts on Twitter and Tumblr that I had browsed in the past.
Visiting a locked account on Tumblr will give you a "login required" message in a URL, while viewing them on Twitter gives you a "these tweets are protected" message. For accounts that I had browsed in the past, I feel like that isn't something that's possible; again, this is yet another login/auth block.
This is never possible and they should feel ashamed for killing off guests viewing them

This happened with Toripocalpse in 2017 where they got inactive, then locked their Tumblr account in the summer of that year, then deleted their blog in 2020. I was VERY angry at them for doing so and I wanted them to restore their Tumblr account I enjoyed in 2015, even if it meant guests viewing the account.

The same's pretty much with pyromaniacblujay's accounts, and even their bsky.social account is blocked from guests seeing it. This is wrong.
Tumbig fetches error 500 when accessing said locked Tumblr account when it's not supposed to do that, for a couple of reasons:
-possibly a 401 or 403 error should be here but not a 500 error, or
-again not letting me see their posts because they lset their account to login-required and that is 100 per cent wrong

No, I meant
>"itch.io began hiding collections with 18+ games in 2023 and now they've hidden the 'adult' tag for such content, but still can be accessed"
which is unfortunate for people wanting to play or download adult-tagged games. I found a couple of links:
- https://itch.io/t/2052580/nsfw-content-is-shown-by-default-in-guest-mode
While I was taken aback by these changes I thought itch.io was cleaning up the data from unnecessary NSFW content being clicked by accident, and it leads to an awkward situation of "itch.io had become a safer environment" to "if they made itch.io a better space, where's the adult-tagged games on the platform?" Like I've seen, some games aren't age-gated but asks for your age consents (eg. Shipwreck 64 Legacy Edition, despite it not being adult content or as I've discussed earlier, HFTGooM from post >>41812). Double-checking Steam, HFTGooM is age-gated (tells you to login) but Shipwreck 64 isn't. This pattern makes games/age groups fall out of shape for some of us.
>>40695
In regards to Newgrounds, I haven't found any reports on the site's brute-forced "login to view" messages for NSFW content via YCombonator. I've covered login blocks for some content on Reddit, Tumblr, and Twitter/X ad nauseum, and I want these back to the "you do not need a an account to view/everything is free" era of the internet.

Sorry, I meant "Shipwrecked 64", and here is the Steam store page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2160220/Shipwrecked_64/
Again, while the ARG/game contains an unsettling atmosphere, and graphic imagery, that does not make the game an 18+/adult, more like a teen game. It's mentioned in the mature content warning of the store page.
Drano · 2025-01-16 11:48
I found out on BBC News that "all websites on which pornographic material can be found, including social media platforms, must introduce "robust" age-checking techniques such as demanding photo ID or running credit card checks for UK users by July": https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwye3qw7gv7o
Some porn sites and privacy campaigners have warned the move will be counterproductive, saying introducing beefed-up age verification will only push people to "darker corners" of the internet.
And then there's age verification being counterproductive to anybody viewing NSFW content, which is now a serious issue in itself.

>"It's harder to run a big porn rig in a civilized country if it can't operate on the internet so I think this is a step in the right direction."
I have a couple of pointers:
1. I think that would stop pushing people to darker corners of the internet, and NSFW content is a dark web thing, but I'm biased as privacy campaigners have warned robust age consents will be "counterproductive".
2. This is a step in the wrong direction if, say for example, people want to archive/scrape NSFW material, and they are blocked from even scraping them unless they verify their age. From post >>40777 I spoke up about anonymous browsing, a crucial element affected in recent years by age-gates and login walls on several social media websites, and, like I've always said, they made surfing the web becoming more locked down and nonfunctional, wishing for companies to reverse these blocks and bans for good/scrub their own blocks from the planes of existence.
What's your opinion on any of these? It's pushing us further and further away from accessing some content online in recent years but I think this robust checking is way too far.

This had been trending a lot on the internet lately, but if you're looking for an alternative to TikTok, I recommend YouTube Shorts until something changes with this whole ban on TikTok in the news. And, to think of it, it's possibly a bug in the software.
You don't need an APK, since it's already on your device. YouTube Shorts is pretty much like TikTok, as some accounts/videos can be found on both sites, like the Linda Shad/Voidpet accounts.

first of all we should be generally against porn in general, work to limit the reach and profitability of the porn industry is conductive to that goal. I do not think that one step will eliminate the porn industry, and I suppose I would be doubtful that all porn will ever go away, but it can be far more marginal than it is now, and it can be far more inaccessible than it is now. Driving it off the mainstream internet is a good step.
Aesthetically I very much dislike websites that ask for identification much as I dislike stores which ask for identification when buying products, but people seem to have accepted the idea that one must present ID to buy alcohol or firearms and slopes being slippery I can hardly think of an argument for why porn should be given less restriction than these.
It may make a websurf less free and easy, but again slopes being what they are this is a trivial step. You already have twitter and facebook and youtube videos with embedded links and private videos and many many things that impede the open web, its reasonable to oppose this on those grounds but it should hardly be a priority imho.

youtube is not on my device already, t.y.v.m.
unless you're talking about tiktok -
i figured out how to access during the ban and it was generally recommended to use the APK from apkpure. the reason why a separate apk is a good idea is because of tracking from apps downloaded from the play store. also, to get it to work, i had to create a new play store account through the VPN and with location spoofed to another country - apparently it also uses your sim card to geofence you.
I'm honestly disappointed none of you seemed to get it. I wanted to use tiktok the other day simply because I wasn't allowed to.
its back now, but with even worse censorship. so naturally I am no longer interested. although i suppose spoofing my account to europe or something might be slightly interesting, since some of the censored content is unrestricted there.

Well it was just a recommendation I thought of after alternatives like YouTube Shorts works akin to TikTok. You don't need an APK for YouTube, since you can enable it on your device. However, you replied that "Youtube isn't on [your] device" - is this because you disabled the app, or uninstalled it via Google Play Store at some point?
Going onto a different topic:
https://staff.tumblr.com/post/180758987165/a-better-more-positive-tumblr
This whole thing is not better or more positive in any way because "the issue is with the bots, not the blogs".
https://www.change.org/p/the-tumblr-staff-tumblr-s-ban-on-all-nsfw-content-is-not-okay
For me, the issue is also to do with Safe Mode that Tumblr ditched in favour of this ban, which affected several posts (like ibgarry.tumblr/post/119627013524/hi-there-this-is-a-callout-post-trigger-warnings) and affected ALL NSFW blogs, and like all the other sites, this is highly and massively unfair, like logins to view searches.
Speaking of which, Tumblr gave me this... weird error in 2016.
http://web.archive.org/web/20170815184040/http://undertaleau.tumblr.com/post/137540810909/important-mod-post said "the official Underfell blog had been removed from Tumblr and was hidden under a password":

>Well it was just a recommendation I thought of after alternatives like YouTube Shorts works akin to TikTok
I appreciate the sentiment, but its truly not the same and came off as a bit patronizing.
i know that tiktok is seen as slop to many but given how many iterations of the concept have cropped up over the years its existence seems natural, and i think it (and vine) could have been and honestly were a genuine place for creative expression if not for censorship and politics. iirc vine was shut down because its vinetubers got sick of increasing shareholder value for free and were trying to get terms and conditions changed to be more respecting of their digital rights so they unionized, the owner Twitter, Inc. chose to sunset the service instead of meeting them. union should have won tbqh.
>This whole thing is not better or more positive in any way
its kind of wild how this whole drama is a result of tumblr current owner photomatt got mad about people criticizing him, iirc X added a policy for similar reasons recently. it takes me back to phpBB and livejournal drama except with way higher stakes and money. fitting in a way, tumblr was always seen as the spiritual successor to livejournal.
>The redirect gave me a blank page with a box to type a password in; did Tumblr discontinue this as well or is this rare to find on Tumblr nowadays?
password protection is a setting tumblr users can set themselves, its still implemented and im not sure if staff can force it but I can see it being a thing users do if their blog becomes restricted. honestly its a good privacy feature, tumblr generally has a better track record with protecting user privacy, now if only they didn't have so much censorship

yeah it sounds like the underfell blog was made private like that by the creators for archival purposes due to drama. many such cases.
i feel like you're avoiding the question, though. people are allowed to lock their blogs, they should always have the right to go private and you'd be hard pressed to find people who agree that you should be able to see anyone who wants their content to remain private.
>I certainly want to know, without the use of modifying codes and command scripts, when social media should stop hampering us with login/auth blocks - not just for in the long run, but also age gates for NSFW content. Likewise, there needs to be a way to curb this without auth.
removing nsfw gates is a slightly more reasonable demand as they cause friction and don't actually stop kids from accessing, plus if they became legally enforced then it would be a digital rights nightmare and everyone would fight against it.
the thing is, even 4chan gives you a warrant disclaimer when you first access the page asking if you're over 18 for legal liability purposes so i think you'd have to find the specific laws that say websites have to add frictional pop-ups otherwise are liable for exposure of children to porn, gambling or drinking (lol), although chances are theres some concerned mothers for liberty type interest group that considers it their pet legislation, this doesnt make it unstoppable. or i guess an alternative is a court case arguing that putting "NSFW" on the page without fuarrrking up people like >>43941 who have legitimate uses is a sufficient warning. cloudflare is an obvious scourge but i feel like their issues at this point involve enshittification due to monopoly status removing the mandate of a quality service.
>most of these are related to problems with NCOSE and FOSTA SESTA
okay so you've identified the laws in question, what groups are fighting against them? how do you rehabilitate sentiment into seriously campaigning against them? the EFF is the foremost digital-rights focused group and they have their hands completely full and have been for a while, i would be against subverting another organization to push this agenda through. there might be smaller digital freedom law organizations but it seems like the disconnect is between people like us and the levers of power that might guarantee our digital freedom. building services to help users bypass of these might be a more anarchy solution but it lacks teeth and would probably not be a good look on anyone developing it, if you don't want to do lobbying or activism then what are your other options?
