Grandfather bequeathed you one million dollars

Judge Fang · 2023-11-25 13:04
Your grandfather recently died. You learn that he bequeathed you $1 million. That money is stored in a bank account that you have full access over. What do you do with the money?(USER WAS WARNED FOR THIS POST, You should always elaborate on your opinions rather than just spilling the soykaf.)

Half in index fund, half in cryptocurrency

I immediately buy real estate and live on it until I die.

ETF that soykaf. $1,000,000 in QQQ a year ago with dividends reinvested is worth about $1,350,000 now; $1,000,000 ten years ago is over $5,000,000 now. You enjoy the distinctly advantageous position of having enough money for an investment principle that will actually generate returns you can live on (you have about twice the minimum for this to work). DON'T blow it, this kind of thing falls into your lap once at best.

I'd use a few hundred thousand (or less) to buy a house. Then I'd put the majority of the rest in ETFs that earn dividends, a fair amount into a normal savings account as a comfortable rainy day fund, and then the remainder in higher risk investment meets. And I'd blow $10-20k on some fun stuff. I wouldn't quit my job, but I would take a sabbatical and probably switch to part time.

>>39066 Immediately cash out of the central banking system in precious metals and crypto; buy defensible, obscure land; and lots of guns. Live happily ever after minding my own business.

>>39074 If it was $10m that would work. Otherwise i dont understand how you'd have enough money to not run out in some years
Mentat · 2023-11-26 08:18
build a house in the woods, buy a car, life insurance, and everything i need to live peacefully with as few worries as possible. go as far off the grid as i possibly can, cut off my whole family, live my life alone and at peace. invest some money into stocks, too, so i can have some income coming in and out. in general be as independent as possible and have no connections to mooch off of.
Anamika · 2023-11-26 14:06
dang thats an easy question one word: nuclear holohoax

>>39074 Sorry to have to tell you anon, but insecurity and social instability isn't an individual problem you can simply overcome by going the retarded survivalist route. Social problems need social solutions

>>39125 I always laugh at people thinking their horde of gold is going to do them any more at the end of the world than a pile of cash. If you’re going to horde metals for the end of the world then horde silicon bronze. As an added bonus you can smelt it into useless looking anime figurines and use them to decorate your basement. When the berzerker raiders loot your house they’ll leave them all behind.

i would neet and become a hikki, probably.

>>39066 I have some cool plans about web of trust. Look into the Duniter project- they have a blockchain, but instead of proof of work they have a web of directly validated identities to ensure uniqueness/decentralization. I want to enable this kind of thing, not necessarily currency-focused. I think decentralization can be more secure than bitcoin (or duniter as it stands) without massive energy or manhour costs. I have some other plans but I want to use them to get access to more capital to fund more plans so I won't describe them here.
