Calculation

Lainons, I need some help and suggestions. I never memorized my times tables, and now whenever I calculate things, I do so like a computer. I do successive additions and I even go so far as to break up calculations into multiples of 2, because adding 2 numbers is easy. For example: -> 7*9 -> 9 + 9 = 18 -> 9 * 4 = 18 + 18 = 36 -> 9 * 8 = 2 * (9 * 4) = 36 + 36 = 72 -> 72 - 9 = 9 * 7 = 61 + 2 = 63 These kinds of calculations get even more convoluted with larger numbers, as I have some random parts of the tables memorized (i.e. 6 * 6 = 36) and incorporate that into it. Don't even ask how I manage to do division. I wanted to try learning with book attached, but as it turns out, being able to do basic multiplication instantly (recall opposed to calculation) is a requisite. Is there some way to memorize the tables that doesn't involve wrote learning or a 4 year olds singalong song?

>>38876 I have that book and the DVD set, yet never finished either. I keep intending to do so. Anyway, it's usually easy to use prime factorization for these kinds of problems. To multiply seven by nine easily, I can turn it into seven times three times three, and from there twenty-one times three, which is very obviously sixty-three. The old halving and doubling algorithm is also easy and simple, and something early computers used.
