First days at my first job

Miho Iwakura · 2023-08-22 06:43
Its been 1 week since i've started my first apprenticeship. (in a tech field but not a tech corp) So far i've been, assigned the most basic tasks and sometimes watch the other do their work, though most of the time i either browse chan boards or read manga. I now have 2 questions: -Is it going to stay this way. (most of the guys who actually work at the corp, don't seem to do much work either, at most 60%)? -What other ways are there to keep away the boredom. (preferably stuff that isnt to obvious)?

i work as a graphic designer and its the same here. it depends if there is a finite amount of work: if you can finish all your work and nobody could come up with new one then you should complete it as fast as possible and do other stuff. if there is an infinite amount of job (even if they sell it to you as finite) you should just delay and do it as slow as you can so that you wont get more job. what i like to do it browse online, read books and learn languages. after some time i managed to actually develop a routine of stuff to do that are not related to work while at work. godspeed lainon

>>37442 I have 2 tips: do not browse any chans or non normal person friendly sites. They show up in the logs, if they have a logger. Second, get a tech book and read it instead. >-Is it going to stay this way. Usually not. You should ask for more challenging things to do at your job.

>>37442 >-Is it going to stay this way. (most of the guys who actually work at the corp, don't seem to do much work either, at most 60%)? Depends from workplace to workplace and how lax the work environment is. At my job, there's a saying that goes "Stuff gets done when it gets done.". to be honest, we are dependent on user requests for help or projects. sometimes theres ALOT, sometimes there's nothing to do but browse the internet. We can kinda predicts what kind of month it's gonna be. (if it's gonna be busy or not) If you want more work, you can ask around. People will like that. >-What other ways are there to keep away the boredom. (preferably stuff that isnt to obvious)? If there's something lacking at the job, and you can work on it, do it. Currently, we are lacking documentation on ALOT of things, so the moment I learn something in our company, I try to document it. Otherwise, I read something, catch-up on media or browse various chans when I have time. Obviously the opposite of >>37449 , but I know we don't keep a logs of browser history. Just have a firewall that restricts what sites we can go to. His advice still applies and you should follow it. Don't do as I say.

>>37442 >Is it going to stay this way Yeah, probably. Been working at various companies for about 10 years now, and it's been like that 90% of the time. >What other ways are there to keep away the boredom Personal projects. Depending on what your job is and what you like to do, then it'll probably look the same to anyone who walks by and no one will question it. >>37449 >do not browse any chans or non normal person friendly sites I wouldn't worry about this. As long as you stick with SFW boards then it's no different then being on reddit, which most of your normal user co-workers probably browse all day
