I've created a folder on a flash drive that acts as a sneakernet imageboard, called "Snearkerboard". You manually type in the post number, date + time (if you don't have the number of seconds use 00), and body of the post. You can attach a file by adding it to the folder "Sneakerboard", and typing the file name at the bottom of your post. Each thread is represented by one text file: you should sort by most recently edited, in order to simulate bump order. I've created another folder, less exciting, that acts as a sneakernet wiki, called "Sneakerwiki". Whoever is in possession of The Unwired can edit any of the files of Sneakerboard or Sneakerwiki: eventually someone will grief the project, but that's ok. In this thread, post your thoughts on this project, and if you would like to be a part of this project, arrange a meeting, and The Unwired can make a voyage across the United States.

>>36573 did the previous thread get jannied?
Trinity · 2023-06-19 10:51
>>36574 no, I just wanted to attach a better WebM (the other WebM showed some of my default Ubuntu desktop background) so I deleted it (I'm severely affected by autism)
Agent Jones · 2023-06-19 11:12
>>36575 So how exactly would this work and what would it be a forum for discussion for? Sounds interesting.
Trinity · 2023-06-19 11:45
>>36576 I've tried 3x to write this without seeming rude, sorry if this comes accross rude: You're speaking about this as if its theoretical. It works, I created a thread, and had my brother create a thread and respond to my thread. I've explained how it works in the opening post, and the attached video shows how it works.
Hagbard Celine · 2023-06-19 11:50
>>36577 yes but how would the flash-drives on which the information is contained be distributed to different people and what types of subjects would the board be for the discussion of?
Trinity · 2023-06-19 12:34
Also, we should record our transitions of The Unwired, and we can splice together an awesome video about it. >>36578 There is only one board, and only one flashdrive. The Unwired will be mailed or delivered to anyone who wants it. Right now I am in New Hampshire, a state in the northeastern United States, and I am willing to drive upto three hours to deliver The Unwired to anyone who wants it.

Considering scrapping the wiki and adding one board (folder) for each board on lainchan...
Motoko Kusanagi · 2023-06-19 15:02
>>36583 based. sounds good. would be interested in this.
Trinity · 2023-06-19 17:39
When this thread hits the bump limit I'll post the new one in /Δ/ or /Ω/ Also, do you prefer this new look of The Unwired or the other image? >>36585 I love you :)
Liet Kynes · 2023-06-19 17:46
>>36590 Use both, randomize them.
Trinity · 2023-06-19 18:03
>>36591 There is only one Unwired.

>>36581 Oooooh i see. I like the idea, now. It will eventually be griefed, but it's not like we'll get back the USB soon after sending it to someone else anyway. At least I'm not expecting to see it again if i ever get hold of it and send it off to someone else :P What I do expect is us sending each other pictures/screenshots of the sneakerboard once in a while :)
Trinity · 2023-06-20 13:12
>>36602 >What I do expect is us sending each other pictures/screenshots of the sneakerboard once in a while :) That would be delicious. Do you live in the United States?
tindomieru · 2023-06-21 09:51
>>36573 I am currently working on an ncurses-based text/imageboard application for linux. It will take plain text files formatted specially for the application (just like your text file) and it will have a UI for adding a post, replying to a post or simply viewing. I may share it with you when (actually if) it ends and you can add it into the flash for better usage. Maybe if I learn about it I can make it p2p so we will have an imageboard running on p2p.
Trinity · 2023-06-21 18:16
>>36610 I had a similar idea. 4chan, reddit, twitter, etc, all contain over one million lines of code despite practically being .txt. files with different UI. Can you receive the Unwired?
keef · 2023-06-22 13:00
So, is it like a physical FTP server?
Trinity · 2023-06-22 13:25
>>36629 Yes. All I need is someone to take the freakin' Unwired!
keef · 2023-06-22 14:25
>>36631 I hope you find success. Have you considered making it a ruleless FTP server?
Trinity · 2023-06-22 15:47
>>36632 >I hope you find success. This is a superior way of saying "good luck"...I like it... >Have you considered making it a ruleless FTP server? The purpose of this is that it is sneakernet: its a gimmick or an experiment, not a viable alternative to web boards. Another anon here mentioned a program in development which would present text files as imageboard threads. It would be interesting to set up with an FTP server to work in conjunction with his program, as an alternative to web boards.

>>36623 I'm in Asia Minor, and since inflation here is so fuarrrked up; I can't afford the shipment fees. Good luck with finding the person though, this is one of the moments which I am wishing that I was in the US.

I'm now willing to deliver the drive to anyone in the US (excluding Hawaii or Alaska)

>>36603 damn i forgor to reply. my bad lainon! i'm in the north coast of Québec myself. I'm not expecting it to travel anywhere near here, but you never know. :)
Trinity · 2023-06-28 04:03
This project is canceled: I don't want anyone adding malware to the project, which would be too easy.
Trinity · 2023-06-28 05:03
Actually, I'm now going to do it with paper. >>36692 Its ok :)
