>>35294 Whenever discussion of this comes up on places online for local discussion I point out that the people doing this are bad neighbors, and all this footage of people going about their public business in front of these cameras is collected and made available to the government to create a combined national system to surveil the movements of people in their community and convict them of crimes and whatever else they and the corporations feel like using it for. The response is, of course, insinuating that I'm probably a criminal, saying nothing done in public should be hidden as if this combined data is reasonably public information, and acting like everything in front of their door is their own property. How much of this is wage slave bots I can't know, but the ones who aren't, fuarrrk em. I have a camera but I take the extra effort to have the data stored locally in my personal control and not on the unaccountable cloud, as should be mandated by law. Anyway yeah if you want to take the risk to destroy Nest devices etc. I am rooting for you.

the graffiti movement hasn't advanced in 40 years either, same styles, tags, etc. if the thousands of taggers in any given city stopped uselessly soykaf-flinging and just aimed ↑ a tiny bit, the corps would find that their mass surveillance apparatus is cost prohibitive

>>35294 if you're comfortable saying, what state or province do you live in? There are specific laws to each regarding to recording in public and on private property, and there may be a legal alternative here.

>>35294 >>35296 Not to worry. I just have a soykafty webcam hooked up to a server that's set up on my window. I just use ffmpeg and ffplay to stream it from the server to whatever machine I'm using that day. Unlikely the glowies are *that* gung-hoe about seeing what's on my street.

I have a little bit of optimism to share. I have noticed that over the past year many homes have removed their horrible cloud-based security cameras. I feel like people are beginning to understand the dystopian surveillance state and are opting out.

I've been thinking and trying to spread the idea of this as well. If there was a collective effort to just smash surveillance cameras, then not only would it be prohibitively expensive to keep replacing them, but it would be in the culture and in the minds of the people to just not install them in the first place. Then those who really wanted to install cameras would have to do so in secret, and it would be a scandal every time, adding further taboo to installing public-facing cameras. >>35298 This is a good point, people who are into graffiti can easily get into spraypainting camera lenses. It's like the infrastructure already exists. People can spraypaint them, people who want to be non-destructive can put stickers over the lenses, or wires can be cut with scissors. I don't think it's necessarily hard to change culture to do it either simply because it's not that completely hard of a thing to do. If it were so hard to be seemingly impossible then people come up with reasons not to try in the first place, but this is attainable so people should be up for it. Those are some anti-surveillance thoughts in a nutshell.

>>39742 You could just write a law up that cameras must not face public property or property of neighbors and a proper police warrant to be required for police to get footage and petition for it. Even if it doesnt pass the fact someone tried to outlaw it would make it more socially taboo or something they would think twice on.
