good pc games that you can spend hours and hours playing?? no online shooters
Roy Batty · 2023-03-11 17:27
Stardew Valley, or any Elder Scrolls for me. Minecraft is good for me but only if I have an idea in mind that will take some work.

My big time sink comfy games are: The Binding of Isaac Rebirth, Death Road To Canada Call of Duty Black Ops III custom zombies (solo offline), Picross Touch (free on Steam), Pokemon romhacks, The Sims 4 (free on Steam), and the Yakuza series. What are the games that once fit that description for you, OP? Any genre/feel/goal in particular you're looking for?

Seconding the Binding of Isaac, can waste a whole day playing that. Most roguelikes fit the bill if you just wanna zone out (or in, I guess) for a while.

>>35096 Soulsborne games: for a beginner who doesn't cheat by reading tutorials or watching gameplays it can take about 100 hours to complete one game.

>>35096 CrossCode is very good. story-focused ARPG that more or less follows the premise of hack.sign//. The gameplay is very good and the characters are very likeable. Takes abt 100 hrs to beat w/ the dlc, steam has a free demo for the first hour of the game. One thing I like is that the main character is mute but she isn't a blank slate protagonist and has a lot of personality.

Madness: Project Nexus has an arena mode that's pretty breezy once you play through a few times. Plus if you're willing to let go of some armor slots you can play reasonable dressup with your player character.

Try Ark 22, I also have some instructions for that game if you're interested.

shenzenIO / opus magnum are both good if you like puzzles with the first one being a lightweight coding game while the later being building machines. on mobile euclidea / pythagorea are free math puzzle games if you insist on a game just to waste time try free trial of final fantasy14 --mmorpgs are build to burn your time and this one is also story heavy and free til you hit later xpac content.

>>35096 Try these: >Morrowind (use OpenMW or morrowind code patch (OpenMW has the required fixes). Also, remember to dl the official plugins/mods made by Bethesda) >DaggerFall (freeware, see: https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Files) >Dwarf Fortress (preferably with a tileset like ironhand, on Windoze you can use Lazy Noob Pack). >Nethack (add OPTIONS=number_pad:1 to your ~/.nethackrc config file) >GZDoom (use PrBoom+ if you want better performance. If you use GZDoom, be sure to disable texture filtering). Get custom WADs from doomworld idgames archive and check out Cacowards). >eduke32 >The AMC Squad (eduke32 total conversion) >Also, Hexen/Heretic, Shadow Warrior and Blood. >The original Deus Ex. >Old School Runescape (but only if you like grinding a lot). Use RuneLite. >Chess (https://www.chess.com) or igo (https://senseis.xmp.net/?WhatIsGo) I would have recommended Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (preferably using 32-bit ET: Legacy client) but you said no online FPS games.

I can spend alot of time on MechWarrior/battletech games and Into the Breach. Both are about huge mechs fuarrrking soykaf up. One is more literal and the other is more tactical and puzzle like. And if you enjoy automation and management games like Factorio, Of Mice And Sand is a nice tiny game about all that. I've more time than I should have ever spent in that game, honestly. (Only reason I stopped playing it is because I was hoping for a modding scene to pop-up, but I'm asking too much for such a tiny obscure game hah.)

>>35105 I second this. The game is practically endless, if you're creative that is.
Marly Krushkhova · 2023-03-14 21:46
>>35114 >story heavy I've always hated story heavy games. If I'm playing a game, I want gameplay, not endless cutscenes. And the thing is the story ends up being worse than if they just made a movie instead, since the pacing is all messed up by the fact that different players will play at different speeds. And usually the themes of the story directly clash with what your character is forced to do in the game portion of the game. Like the story will be about love and peace and then the moment the cutscene ends you have to murder 20 "grumbo guards" to get to the next checkpoint. Not that I don't like any story at all in my games, I just rather not have it interfere with the gameplay or be interfered with by the gameplay. I do have an appreciation for games where the story happens at the same time as the gameplay, like Portal. I'll always love Portal. I also think opening cutscenes and ending cutscenes are probably fine for games. It's only really a problem when there are cutscenes in the middle of gameplay. >>35115 >Nethack I've read that Nethack has a good magic system, but there's not much information online about it. I have an itch for a game with a deep magic system right now because most games sorely lack it. Weirdly enough, I think my favorite magic system in gaming comes from modded minecraft. >chess.com Um actually this website is not FLOSS

>>35168 >chess.com https://lichess.org/ is a good open-source alternative I also like https://jackli.gg/chessle/ but I don't know if it's FLOSS

>>35193 Yeah I've played it before. Didn't really like it, especially the Mo Creepers. Plus I don't really have the time to play a video game as a full time job. I do like the direction they take with regards to Thaumcraft, it's very cool. I just wish they had more magic, but I understand it's a tech modpack foremost.
Demeere · 2023-03-26 11:24
I've been enjoying STALKER Anomaly a lot. The vibes are real in here. If you want to start, play Shadow of Chernobyl and install the starter pack mod, then play clear sky and call of pripyat. There's good graphics mods for all of these

>>35111 I'll second this CrossCode is fantastic and I highly recommend it. Tyranny or Pillars of Eternity: Deadfire are some really heavy Obsidian RPGs you'll lose yourself in guaranteed, Tyranny was particularly interesting.
