What websites do you guys use?
Project 2501 · 2022-11-25 04:48
For me
>YouTube (for the six YouTubers I watch)
>Wikipedia (for entertainment and information)
>Google Docs (for writing ideas and scripts)
>Various imageboards (for images and conversation)
>My Jiu-Jitsu place's website (for the schedule)
>Tumblr & Reddit (for images of hot girls)
>Bflix (for pirating of Star Trek and Futurama)

I regularly bounce around

>Wikipedia

Sometimes, just to get a lil update on you all who share pieces of your time in this chan, I go on the webring and see if there's new blog posts

Interesting. I can't use Twitter, since you need a phone number for that, and I don't have a phone.
The Phantom Phreak · 2022-11-26 11:58
I refresh these near-constantly:
> Fediverse
> Lainchan
> One or two mind-numbing subreddits
Regularly visit:
> Wikipedia
> Dictionaries (Wiktionary, often)
> Github
> AP/Reuters/Fox News
> Deviantart/Pixiv (for horny)
> 1337x/Nyaa.si (for everything else)
For YouTube, podcasts, doujins, etc, I use RSS feeds/dedicated software. Honestly just visiting these same sites all the time is really boring, but idk where else to go. @-@

Too late. It was 80% of the reason anyone went there in the first place and when they started censoring, after so many people quit in protest thousands more started drifting away just because the site felt lonely. I doubt there will be a revival, ever. The internet doesn't work that way.

we don't go to (wiz/4/8)chan anymore
Wish there'd be more blogs interesting and worthwhile enough to merit a visit, but exploring the web has become tiresome, since everything lies in ruin, decay, or is otherwise preoccupied with asinine culture wars and other inanities that there isn't any point to it. Besides, the kinds of places I'd enjoy are unknown unknowns - I wouldn't even know where to begin searching, and because I do not know what to search, I will never find these places.

You should use matrix, you can easily setup a discord bridge so even if your friends use spyware you don't have to (though VoIP doesn't work over the bridge)
Lady 3Jane.. · 2023-01-26 22:25
>>33921
I've never understood discord bridges. If you fully care about the privacy of not using Discord why the fuarrrk are you willing to have your messages still be in Discords servers. Might as well use something like Ripcord or at the very least the web version in that situation.

I guess so but it doesn't seem like much improvement from a privacy point of view. Considering now Discord servers know your handle on other platforms along with the unencrypted messages you send to every single person you talk to that recieves them via Discord. As I said, might as well just use a front-end to Discord instead of a bridge.

I think you don't quite understand how bridges in matrix work. It doesn't bridge everything, it's just a single chat room in matrix that can communicate with a single room (or whatever it's called) in a discord server. The only data being sent to discord is in that single isolated chat.
Unnamed · 2023-02-08 06:20

Librejs imo is useless. Anyone can run their script as long as the code has a free license in the header, which means that they can still load js to spy on you if they do that.

Not them, but I've never owned a cell phone. The last time I used one was in 2012.
I don't really travel so I can't speak for navigation, though I do keep paper maps in the car that I use occasionally. There have been times that I wanted to coordinate with someone in realtime, eg if a situation or plan changes, but often times you can just go into a store or gas station and they'll let you use their landline. Lastly, in the case of buying things I've wished I could look up and compare prices at the store ("town" is 25 miles away from home) but ideally larger purchases like that should be researched in advance anyway. So it's not common, it's just a matter of if you're like in the ahrdware store or something and see a big sale on a particular item, if you don't have the going price indexed in mind you can't determine how big the sale is *really*. During covid a few times people didn't want you to come inside and you ahd to text from outside. I just ignored this.

At work I am forced to use news websites and wikipedia even if I know they are tainted by big money. On youtube I use privacy browser with private mode to remove all form of cookies. The algorithm either don't know it's me when I reconnect or it pretend to to not raise my suspicion.
I have tried sites with shadowbans and up/downvotes like reddit or imgur and it's not usable. It just explain so many things about the state of our word.

i set up a local invidious instance a while ago but unfortunately the server software is really soykafty. constant disk access, even when it shouldn't be doing anything and the memory leaks -- oh god the memeory leaks. the official documentation literally tells you that you need to restart the server every few days because it'll soykaf itself if you don't. and the dev (god bless him) doesn't see this as a problem.

Musk comes from a family that supported South Africa's apartheid government. His father claimed he opposed the National Party and stood for elections as an anti-apartheid councilor, although there's no actual proof of this anywhere. The Musks lived in one of those segregated pro-apartheid enclaves in Pretoria. Elon once accused a left wing political party in South Africa of promoting white genocide, a popular buzzword for butt hurt Afrikaner nationalists and post-apartheid crybabies. Telsa have been facing a ton of lawsuits that they racially segregated workplaces, presumably to make the whites and blacks fight each other so they could further depress wages. Musk isn't a nationalist socialist, although he could be a white afrikarner resistance type, it's more likely he's just another butthurt Boer "when things were gud" apartheid nostalgic who sees Afrikarners as better than everyone else, especially blacks. Although, given Nazi is a common epithet for a power hungry, controlling maniac with a messiah complex, then Musk fits the bill in that sense.

Being pro-apartheid isn't a national socialist idea. In fact, in South Africa, this would have been conservatives, which are generally still liberal.
>Elon once accused a left wing political party in South Africa of promoting white genocide
A lot of White genocide was, and is, happening in South Africa, especially with regards to Zimbabwe, where they killed and raped their way through the White farmers, then proceeded to beg for them to come back a few years later because they found out that "food isn't from farms, food is from the grocery store" isn't exactly true. So, I wouldn't be surprised if some "left wing political party" was promoting "White genocide", considering how anti-White people are. Why don't you guys own it at this point? I mean, you're pro-racemixing, you're trying to fill the few White-majority countries with non-Whites. Logically speaking, it's anti-White. For some reason, you can twist and turn your way into talking about how White supremacy is why a race of people with an average IQ of 84 can't figure out how to pay attention in school, but clean-cut soykaf like this hurts your message, I guess.
>a popular buzzword for butt hurt Afrikaner nationalists and post-apartheid crybabies.
Unnecessary commentary. I understand that you are emotionally compromised in your worldview, you didn't need to spell it out for me.
>Telsa have been facing a ton of lawsuits that they racially segregated workplaces
I saw something about that! One black guy called another black guy a "nigga" and then that guy sued Tesla for it. It's absolutely hilarious.
>presumably to make the whites and blacks fight each other so they could further depress wages
Interestingly, a study done by Amazon actually found that racial homogeny promotes unionization, so it's much better, from a capitalist perspective, to "depress wages" by promoting diversity. So, it's technically the opposite of how that all works: http://archive.is/1khJw
>Musk isn't a nationalist socialist
I suspected as much.
>given Nazi is a common epithet for a power hungry, controlling maniac with a messiah complex

Clearly you've never heard of the Nuremberg laws. Racial stratification isn't specifically exclusive to national socialism, every Western country did it, but that's just autistic nitpicking at this point.
>A lot of White genocide was, and is, happening in South Africa, especially with regards to Zimbabwe
Sure 67% of commercial land in SA is owned by the white minority (it was 80% in 1994). So where's the genocide? Where are the concentration camps? Were are the gendarme rounding up whites? Whites make up 50% of the urban middle class. I don't see any genocide anywhere. Zimbabwe is a whole other country, there the white minority lost a brutal war and that's Ian Smith's fault. The British government tried to reign in the whites multiple times, knowing land grabbing creates conflict, and warned them over and over again. If Rhodesia didn't declare itself independent and create an apartheid state, chances are the whites would still have their land like they do in SA.
Since the fall of apartheid, land reform has been a consistent policy demand. Why? Because it's what caused the economic collapse of South Africa in the 80s and continues to stifle the country's economic development. Years of arbitrary land grabbing combined with apartheid policies overly centralized land in the hands of a small minority (about 37,000 people), it put black cattle herders out of business, and led to mass migrations into impoverished townships. This meant there was a large pool of reserve labor and not enough jobs, creating the violent crime ridden society South Africa has been since the late 70s. The unemployment rate has been relatively consistent, 29% in 1994 and around 26-27% today and it's why crime rates are so high. Redistributing land is basic economic common sense not genocide and a number of countries have done it in the past with great effect, India comes to mind. It would widen the middle class, increase the purchases of consumer goods, alleviate the massive unemployment and high crime problem, lower prices on staple goods, increase growth, and reduce food import dependency. This is basic neoclassical economics.
For years Afrikarner land owners have (like all big land owners) dragged their feet and its led to political and social conflicts. This isn't unique to SA, it happens in virtually every country that tries to undergo land reform. The whole "farm attacks" meme was spread by Afrikarner nationalist groups and their initial claim was that black criminals were targeting Afrikaners for annihilation (the old swart gevaar bullshit) and there was the whole Suidlanders hoax and the Mandela death hoax, where AWB types deliberately spread fear among whites that a mass black uprising was coming. The white genocide meme comes from Ernst Roets, who used the whole controversy around Malema to argue white South Africans are victims of hate speech, that their an oppressed minority, the real victims of racism etc. Roets claims the EFF are behind the farm attacks and it's all a big communist plot (during apartheid, white Afrikarners had this obsession with the unrest in the country being conjured up out of nowhere by magical non-existent commies). Problem is the farm attacks were mostly criminal in nature, haven't been linked to the EFF, and were regular homicides and assaults. The majority of the EFF's land occupations have been peaceful. "Farm attacks" aren't different from other types of violent crime in SA, the victims just happen to be white because they own 67% of the land. Black farmers have also been attacked, but that doesn't make the headlines. Land reform always causes unrest, and the irony of all this is that in SA the process has been way less violent than other countries like Colombia, China, Guatemala, or Cambodia (where there was an actual genocide).
>One black guy called another black guy a "nigga" and then that guy sued Tesla for it. It's absolutely hilarious.
That's not what the original lawsuit states (they were sued by a state agency in a country where the government is pro-Tesla). The workers alleged Tesla managers and senior staff used racial slurs towards them, etched swastikas and KKK onto workplace machinery, paid them less, withheld advancements and promotions and deliberately kept them in the lowest level roles. The Fremont facility where this took place is the largest non unionized car plant in the US. You can read the rest for yourself.

>a study done by Amazon actually found that racial homogeny promotes unionization
Amazon has nothing to do with Tesla. They don't influence Tesla policy or how Musk thinks about woke diversity soykaf.
If I accuse Osama Bin Laden of being a zealot nobody is going to tell me I'm wrong because he's not a Jewish heretic from the 1st century. If someone casually describes someone as a Nazi because their overbearing and controlling, their not using that term literally. I don't think OP believes Musk is a goosestepping NSDAP member who reads Mein Kampf. Sure, a certain group of people throw that word around loosely and that's harmful, but what you did here was scan the lines and see "Nazi" and decide it was good opportunity to stink up this thread with your lousy politics.

>Interestingly, a study done by Amazon actually found that racial homogeny promotes unionization
Yes, because racial divides are slightly difficult to cross. That means they can be used to suppress unionization.. Seems like this completely supports the point you're replying to.

Why do you consider manga and anime guilty pleasures but not movies and YouTube? Most people I know (including me) are far more addicted to YouTube than other forms of passive media, including porn. And manga isn't even passive entertainment really, it's closer to books

I don't really follow that many channels. It's mostly educational stuff. None of them does the obnoxious "remember to like, subscribe, and hit that bell icon because you're a stupid moron who has to be told what to enjoy" thing. I also use a sponsorblock script for mpv, which makes it a much more pleasant viewing experience. I don't consider all weeb stuff as guilty pleasures, hence why I separated it kind of as its own thing. I'm talking about the weird stuff about girls for guys with minimal girl experience if you know what I mean.

this makes me wish stumbleupon hadn't been killed off. it was such a low-friction way to get to neat websites outside the main hubs. alternativeto.net says viralwalk is the best alternative to it currently but I haven't tried it myself.

proud of you, if you still need Gdocs style synching between devices look into Syncthing or something similar

Unfortunately I have to use it because of a few servers (mostly niche topics). I think I could convince most of my actual friends to move to somewhere else, but servers are a problem.
