in line with the fall theme, I made some boiled winter squash. It's come to be my favorite 'vegetable' or whatever you might call it. Mashed it up and put some cinnamon on it.

Had bought some pumpkin brioche bread before, so decided to make french toast with them. I totally did not notice the strip of wrapper on the bottom, so I cooked them with a wrapper. I only noticed when I started to eat them..

I made some classic (basil+pine nuts) pesto for the first time. Served it with bavettine pasta and chicken. Even bought the mortar and pestle specifically for this (though it is pretty fun to use for other recipes).
Kinda involved compared to my usual carbonara but very tasty and filling even with my inexperienced execution.
The cooking process itself was also supper fun and the aroma of basil when I mixed the pasta with the sauce was heavenly.
It's not really a big deal, but my gf and I recently had a talk about not finding a motivation to pick up our hobbies because we are both super tired and depressed all the time. Yesterday I managed to encourage her to finish knitting the octopuses that she couldn't finish for a year andb so I decided to make pesto because cooking interesting recipes is the only hobby I have that produces something tangible plus cooking is much more fulfilling when you cook for people you like. She enjoyed the meal a lot, thought she got full very quickly.
(Sorry for the quality of the meal photo, only remembered to take one after most of the food was gone)

Something easy one could use a mortar and pestal for is grinding pepper. I've heard it tastes better when freshly ground even though I couldn't really tell much of a difference. Something I can also suggest is frying whole pepper on a dry frying pan before grinding them. They should swell ever so slightly. I did this when making cacio e pepe! A really fun dish to make!
Best regard and good luck.
