Would anyone like to chat and make some internet friends? I have a boring ass job and I work from home so I don't have anyone to talk to most days. Would be cool to have a few internet frens for some casual chats to help pass the time. I figured it would go without saying that its gotta be on Matrix. Anyway, feel free to DM me on there and we can talk about whatever. Obviously Im into tech but I also like talking about physical fitness, books (mostly non-fiction), personal finances, crypto and lots of other random soykaf. https://matrix.to/#/@adamm_:matrix.org

Chiming in to mention that XMPP open groupchats would be interesting to see. You know, like IRC channels on topics adjacent to lainchan.

Really enjoyed reading that matrix.org blog recently, them talking about some absolutely massive performance improvements they are adding to the protocol design, and the improvements on server software over time have been great too. The future of encrypted messaging :D

>>32197 Yeah its a pretty cool piece of software. What I really like is that unlike Discord, Matrix is capable of supporting various different client software. I think for Discord that exists but the devs have to go about it in a very hack'y way since Discord isn't open source and I'm sure they don't like people using something that isn't their proprietary bs.

>not using Lainchan IRC https://www.lainchan.org/irc.html Most FOSS projects use Libera IRC network (https://libera.chat/). You can use Searx or https://netsplit.de/ to find new networks. https://www.rizon.net/ is popular among imageboard users and weebs. Good IRC clients >Irssi: https://irssi.org (Cross-platform CLI client) >Weechat: https://weechat.org (Use this if you don't like Irssi) >Hexchat: (https://hexchat.github.io Cross-platform GUI client. Continuation of Xchat. Xchat is dead.) Some general IRC tips * Turn off automatic away messages. * Don't constantly change your nick (don't change it to indicate that you are away either, instead use /away message). * Request a cloak from the IRC server (check server's website). * Don't ask a permission to ask. Don't ask if anyone is online. http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html * Don't flood, instead use a pastebin service (such as https://dpaste.com/) * Don't use colors or bold (some channels allow it, however) * Don't use scripts that talk. * Disable auto-rejoin (if you get kicked, you shouldn't immediately rejoin.) * For maximum anonymity, use Tor as SOCKS5 proxy (https://libera.chat/guides/connect#accessing-liberachat-via-tor). * IRC network = a collection of IRC servers that can be used to access the exact same channels. For example, Libera has many servers that make up the Libera IRC network. IRC commands that you need to know > /help [command] - display help > /nick foobar - change your nick > /join #baz - join a channel > /part - disconnect from a channel > /quit - quit > /msg tux message - send 1 private message to tux > /msg NickServ help - get instructions for registering your nick (check the IRC server's website. the name of the bot can vary) > /away [message] - mark yourself away Example IRC session Use Hexchat (best GUI IRC client) if this looks too complicated. # comments are marked likes this. # % is the terminal/shell prompt. # Irssi can have multiple "windows" that can be cycled through with Ctrl+n and Ctrl+p # Use ALT+n or ALT+p to scroll a window. PageUp/PageDown keys also work. % irssi # https://irssi.org/documentation/settings/ /SET log_timestamp %H:%H:%S /SET autolog ON /SET nick foobarbaz /SET real_name realname /SET user_name anon /SAVE # IRC clients have client specific commands, too: /help network /help server /help connect # you can add servers to your IRC clients config and then connecting will get # easier and more convenient (you don't have to type so much). # To add a server or a network: https://irssi.org/New-users/#adding-a-new-network /connect irc.libera.chat 6697 /nick foobar # if you are new, you may need/want to register your nick: /msg NickServ REGISTER $password $email # Use "/msg NickServ identify $password" if you have registered the nick. # Or set up SASL. #let's get a cloak /join #libera-cloak #let's talk. the following will be sent to the channel! !cloakme /part /join #gentoo # post whatever you want to say... /quit

>>34146 Building a completely Free Software communication protocol and actively fixing flaws that you get criticized for, all in a decently competent way, seems like a very curious decision for bad actors. Generally when I look for signs of a honeypot, I look for large scale advertising aimed at the lowest common denominator, rolling your own crypto, nonfree software, incompatible closed protocols, walled gardens, hostility to outside research, deliberately slow leadership, lack of transparency.. this project being the opposite of all of those things. As always, when you make claims you actually have to defend them logically. Break your claims down into many small and falsifiable pieces such as "this particular code file has a backdoor", and then we can traverse that list 1 by 1 until your claim has either been verified or defeated. If you lack the capacity to reason in this manner, this site is not for you.

You took my post unironically when it was clearly ironic. I do not support not recommend such service, mainly because I don't use it and my post did not imply otherwise. >If you lack the capacity to reason in this manner, this site is not for you. Absolutely irrelevant given that I was not trying to make a point in the first place. There's no actual debate, not because I am opposed to it, but rather because my post was not intended to be read from a rational perspective.
