I've gone into five digits of debt and have a small apartment in a fun, central, tech-y filled and s e c u r e part of a city! Moving in in a couple of weeks.
Advice for making the best of a fresh slate? Things to try? Cheap home improvement? Avoiding danger? Pretend I'm from a rural town where drinking is the main hobby because I basically am.

>moved into the city
Damn lainon personally i feel lile im being driven further into the wilderness by rising rent cost and urbanization. New apartments show up every day where I'm at. I knew I had to move further away the first time I was stuck behind 15 people at a dollar general.
>Advice for things to try
Clubs are soykaf but if you like drinking it can be worth just going to see whats what. Bring frens so you dont get fuarrrked with. Cover charges suck but you like spending money so that shouldnt be an issue.
Honestly not sure what else besides that there would be to do in a city. Cant hike, or explore. You can probably find food spots like anywhere else. Basically just seems like anywhere else but with clubs and longer lines to do soykaf.
>Cheap home improvement
I didnt have a tv so i got a cheap projector online and its fuarrrking awesome. Sound is meh but picture is decent and what it lacks is made up for by novelty. bitches like it.
>Avoiding danger
One of the main reasons I'd never move to a city is how horrible the jails are. Ok, in regular rural land you get in with a bunch of drug addicts, wife smackers, and other shades of degeneracy but as long as you dont make problems you probably wont have problems. Food is like kicking dead whales down the beach but hey whatever read a book, play some chess, make creative food and get your hands on cigarettes.
Cities have gangs and all that bull. Plus ive heard all kinds of nightmarish stories about rats, roach infestations, inmates hoarding newspaper to insulate the inside of their jumpers from the killer cold. No fuarrrking bueno. Dont go to jail.

The main thing that's different in cities is a huge array of various events with a more international expat crowd. You can find these events on facebook, via various institutions or international communities, or simply via a shared hobby. Hence it's usually much easier to make friends here and there. Those friends usually wont last however and it goes to more shallow superficial relationships. The same goes for dating, you will never find anything wifeable in a big city they are all braindamaged and brainwashed liberal sheep.
>No fuarrrking bueno. Dont go to jail.
Why would this guy go to jail, he is involved in some illegal activity? Besides griefing the ministry in minecraft or hatespeech, I dont see how someone here could get himself in jail.

I suppose it was pretty obvious in my post I haven't spent a lot of time in cities. Amen on the braindamaged part. Main reason I avoid "hobby communities," or other "nerds" in general. Some weirdo might fall in love with you. That or just, like you said; shallow and superficial. They end up acting like venomous females.
>why would this guy go to jail
nobody expects to go to jail until they go to jail, then you really wish you'd looked into it. the same way wageslave child producers scan a region for the school district they fall in when buying a new home, you should always figure out what kind of jail your area will take you to. You could get burned by a snitch buying something to get high, do something stupid when you're drunk, or participate in a failed revolution. Possibilities are endless. You could join the resistance following some hot hacker chic only to get double crossed by the megacorps and betrayed by your fem fatel. You could have to fight off an army of invading CHUDs from the sewers below and get charged with clubbing a homless man to death in the paperwork after the fact. Just cause he was mutated with claws and trying to extract the RNA from your spine doesn't mean he wasn't just sick! Hell, you could even find yourself in an underground arena sidequest trying to earn the money to help the surrounding poor only to defeat the reigning champion and get burned by his sponsors. You could help deliver a pizza for the mob and get grabbed by private security forces. By not being prepared for every contingency you aren't doing yourself any favors.

I don't blame you, but on the other hand I find my isolation is just encouraging me to sit at a computer screen for a social life. Even if many of the city people are repressed workers or turds, the numbers game works out and I can find IRL communities that actually interest me.
>Clubs are soykaf
I mean, I for one enjoy being able to talk to people and avoid tinnitus. I might go with my co-workers to one of their favorites to see if it's worth it.

Nice, and I guess that solves the """smart""" TV problem. I don't even watch live television or paid streaming services, I would mostly just use it for computing or showing downloaded media. **plus if im bored i could try shining it out the window**
do these bitches ask where the netflix is every time?

Useful tips, thanks. I've already got a couple of more-than-superficial friends there which should help me out on that front. Also, the area I'm going into is near a new massive building for a tech corp popular with the city technical uni's CompSci school, so they've seen a major influx of tech professionals in the building. With a bit of luck and effort, I can make some quality local friends, as opposed to a stretched out network that dissolves pretty easily.

Check out the local music and art scene. Try out a few genres you don't normally listen. Go to an EDM club on a busy night. I'm not a fan of the genre, but seeing the light shows live, physically feeling the bass through the venue quality sound system, and seeing the energy of the crowd is worth experiencing.
fetlife meet ups can be super fun.
>avoiding danger
Ask people for places to avoid and avoid them, be nice to people.

A lot of clubs have quiet outdoor areas for smokers and conversations. I wear earplugs at clubs and bars to avoid tinnitus. Clubs can be incredibly fun, but you have to put in the effort to find the right club for you.

You might be able to find a hackerspace or similar special interest group in the area.

I'm amazed at how often I forget "talk to people" is a good answer.

I think there's a good chance, or worst case I can crash the one at a nearby university (I can pass as a student or tutor). I know of a monthly security conference so that's a good place to find what's going on.

A lot of uni special interest groups are open to non-students, so you might not even have to try to pass as a student. We had some outsiders in my unis linux group a few times. Our various computer clubs would also have presentations every few weeks that usually were open to the public.
>not my thing but im happy to hear a story
The ones I've went to started with educational presentations then afterwards allowed for freely doing whatever/whoever and playing with whatever the presenters brought for their demonstrations. The presentations were things like "here is how you safely indulge in wax play (how to melt wax, safety precautions, what type of wax is ok or not and why, etc.)" and "here are the tools, techniques, and safety precautions for electrostimulation."

I want to put a free WiFi network up for hosting pirated media, but I'm guessing no-one would ever use it.

I wish we had more if that culture, hell when will streaming services' bullshit reignite the piracy scene?
