Hair loss
Hacker · 2022-03-12 16:48
Hi lains, I'm struggling with a pretty big problem. I've always had the worst-looking hair imaginable (curly but not in a pretty way, pic related but without being shiny or any volume) and had been always jealous of people with straight hair.
2 years ago or so I started using a flat iron on my hair and fell in love with the results, the insecurity that I had been struggling with finally disappeared and I could go outside for the first time in my life without feeling like an ugly goblin. I tried chemical relaxing twice before that but it just didn't work no matter what product I try.
I've recently noticed that I'm losing a lot of hair (I'm only 19 and not even high on testosterone), especially on the top of my head since I had to straighten it on a daily basis (been using 150c which is the lowest mode to do as little damage as possible) and it's starting to get really bad. The balding is noticeable because there is very little hair on the top of my head and what's left is getting shorter and shorter.
This is really troublesome for me since I love my hair so much, it took me 2 years to grow it to its current length and it would be really painful if I had to start over from scratch.
Does anyone know if there's a solution left for me? I've read that estrogen is my last hope since it can improve hair quality but I'm not sure how much of this is true and I don't want to grow boobs either. Please help.

Hair transplant + minoxidil for the rest of your life. The other option is to accept and go bald. I don't look good bald but I'm not doing a hair transplant and thats ok.

I'll be honest, it's over.
I started balding like you at 18, Minoxidil helps but it does not much in the long term. If you really love your hairs then you have to castrate yourself with Finasteride, I hesitated and now here I am, almost 23 years old of age looking like a 30yo man. It is truly miserable
G-d hates us, there's no other explanation, sorry m8
Also do not bother with hair transplant, I've read that the transplanted hairs will drop sooner or later, at least without medications
It's since 2019 that I read about this japanese scientist working on some technology to grow modified human hairs in culture that are immune to the balding process therefore they could be implanted into the scalp and they'll not go anywhere even without medication.
I really really hope this technology will became available in the next years...

it does not. hair transplants are done with hairs from the back of your head which are not susceptible to the hormones which make the rest of your hair fall out.
OP, if you're so scared to go bald just save 15k and see koray erdogan in istanbul.

You need to use heat protectant if you're straightening your hair that often. The thinning you describe can likely be attributed to you straightening your hair every day. Stop straightening it for a few months and be more careful about it when you return to straightening it. You probably just fried your hair too much.
if that doesn't work, while male pattern baldness isn't unheard of at age 19, it's more likely you have some underlying condition causing it. Go see a doctor, an actual doctor, not one of the telehealth doctor that services like Keeps or Hims employ so they can rubberstamp finasteride prescriptions. If the doctor rules out underlying conditions, they should refer you to a dermatologist who specializes in hair health.
For estrogen, while HRT is effective at preventing male pattern baldness, it is not good for other types of hairloss. Until you know that your balding is due to male pattern baldness, you shouldn't try it. Even if you are suffering from male pattern baldness, estrogen is not your last hope nor is it the first treatment you should try. A doctor will recommend topical minoxidil and/or prescribe finasteride first. Finasteride is highly effective and has a similar mechanism for preventing hairloss with less side effects than estrogen/HRT.
Hair transplant technology is very good now, so in the worst case you can simply buy a fix. There are also plasma injection and light therapy treatments that are effective.
If you're one of the many who caught covid on or around New Year's, you may also be experiencing thinning and halted growth due to that. If that is the case, the growth and thickness will return to normal within 6 months.
tl;dr stop frying your hair and go see a doctor

OP, can you grow a beard? You can shave your head and just compensate with the beard.
Just use a hat when going outside and you are good. Embrace the change, don't fight against it.

Not them but a potential side effect of finasteride is erectile dysfunction. In some rare cases, it can be long-lasting or even permanent. Online communities tend to exaggerate the likelihood of that happening.

MtF hrt stops and sometimes reverses hair loss caused by male pattern baldness.
FtM hrt can cause it.

>I'm only 19 and not even high on testosterone
there's your problem. It's a misconception that having a lot of t means losing hair. it's actually the opposite.
I personally found taking this indian powder helped against my hair loss. taking around 8g of this soykaf. I also feel bit less subhuman since taking it regularly.
I can only recommend trying it. It's not expensive

>It's a misconception that having a lot of t means losing hair. it's actually the opposite.
It's not exactly the opposite. High testosterone levels does trigger and speed up hair loss from male pattern baldness, but susceptibility to male pattern baldness is primarily determined by genetics. So usually testosterone levels aren't the root cause of the balding, just a contributing factor. However, it is possible that unnatural testosterone levels, such as those in steroid users, will result in balding that wouldn't have happened had they stayed natty. Think of it as if their genetics gave them a shield to protect from testosterone's effect on hairloss. The shield is strong enough to endure a normal lifetime's testosterone, but breaks when confronted with an unnatural amount. On the opposite end, abnormally low testosterone can contribute to balding, but it's unlikely.
There are also forms of balding that are not affected by hormones, such as alopecia areata.
Cypher · 2022-03-19 20:54

Its more complex thant just T. There are other molecules involved and then it also depends on receptors as T ist just a signal like all hormones and the effectiveness of the signal relies on how many receivers exist. So T by itself doesnt determine hair loss at all. Overall whenever you want to minmax and modify it gets incredible complex because everything is intermingled. You never get one factor alone determining one thing.

But I'm really convinced this indian soykaf works
Turner · 2022-03-20 18:41
>>30437
Might be legit but then again its effect is not single purpose, its also used as a adaptogen against stress / for better sleep which both are related to hair loss too. When im saying biology is complex af i really mean it. Its fuarrrking frustrating how complex everything is intermingled while you just want a simple fix to a single issue.
Dozer · 2022-03-20 18:43
>>30439
Addendum: of course as long as it works for you who cares about all that other crap. Its just a potential issue when you see it works and try to imitate with other people.

OP here. Started putting almond oil in my hair today to first of all get rid of the endless amount of dandruff on my scalp but according to internet source it can also help with promoting hair growth apparently although not proven. Other than that I will try to get protection spray for when I need to straighten my hair. Does anyone have experience with almond oil? My brother uses it so it'll most likely work for me too. Will update the thread in a month.

I'm more interested in the stress-reducing qualities of this thing. Have you noticed any change in your stresss levels or other effects? I live in constant stress

Yeah. in this case I don't feel guilty about sh**lling it. It's not harmful or anything so he might as well try everything before he is completely bald.
Also I notice how many men are losing their hair at 20 or even earlier. There is a good chance it's related to plummeting T levels in the last couple of decades.
>>30469
Really I can't say much about that. I only noticed that I feel a bit more confident. Maybe brainfog has gotten less.
Nobody important · 2022-04-05 14:51
I'm in the same boat OP, just further down the river. Started losing it around 19, now nothing left but a long horseshoe. I grew a beard and get compliments on that but when I take my hat off it isn't pretty. I should shave it but that's a horrifying idea to me. I used to hate wearing hats, now I have to. When I was a kid I always wanted long hair like my favorite metal artists, and it was a big issue between my father and I. Now it's all gone and I have to look like the gay dude from Judas Priest.

Balding is natural, fighting it will only make you look like a buffoon and everyone will notice the lengths you go to to hide it. Embrace the body you were given and don't listen to the lookismglitterboytry in this thread
Nameless · 2022-04-07 18:02
I have long hair and was going to shave it all off because it's so fuarrrking annoying to wash it etc. But then I see people who make such a huge deal out of being bald that i get confused

It's different when it isn't your choice. In your case it's a personal preference. My preference was to keep it long, now I don't have any choice in the matter.

Dry shampoo can save you a lot of washing time. Might solve your issue and let you keep your hair, if you care about keeping it.

You're probably far enough along the balding timeline that you could get a hair transplant if you're willing to spend a few thousand dollars.
Cat Mother · 2022-07-24 16:42
idk about your situation but something that helped me is massaging the cranial muscles. tension in there is the most common cause for hair loss
Nemissa · 2022-07-25 14:29
onion juice on the scalp is 3 times better than monaxidil
