What we should do?
Jens Hansen · 2022-03-02 19:38
Evening from Russia to you, Lain. I don't know what i should do now. As you know the situation with country is more then awful, we're slowly **or not** becoming isolated from other world. Every fuarrrking newspaper from every fuarrrking side of the world is lying, every fuarrrking polititian is a hypocrite, i just can't deal with it. Every morning i check the news from both sides of conflict and every fuarrrking morning i get nothing good from it. They just lying without any shame and both of the sides just trying to shame other. You can say: "Just don't check it, lmao" but how can i stop check the news, if it is literally about me and my future. If it is about countries, where i spent my childhood, where i live now. Every minute without checking fuarrrking tg-channels is like an hour full of anxiety. And more: my parents are freaky soviet-fans and they're not scared of isolation, they believe in ''Fascist's Ukraine'' and ''The Defense of Donbass''. And they are trying to make me like them. And it is going on and on every fuarrrking day.
You would say, that only 6 days past, but... I'm bored, i'm too fuarrrking bored of it. I leave like a half of day in bed, i sleep 3 times a day, i cant get any good emotions, there's feeling like frustration.
My parents laughing in kitchen with their friend while i'm dying of headache and something like apathy.
I'm feeling bad for last half of year, but now i feel bad much more. I just don't know, what i can do and what i should do. Sorry, Lain, if that text was nothing more like whining, but i've needed it. I haven't got other place to do it, sorry.

Sounds like you need a hobby/something to become committed too; I had a similar issue but resolved it by committing myself to learning computer science, and so far I've enjoyed it (-: — here's a couple of learning resources to poke at if you want:
https://teachyourselfcs.com/ (computer science; I used/am using this as a loose guide to learning subjects in the field)
https://www.ctrlpaint.com/ (digital painting stuff, note that it requires a drawing tablet to properly follow along)
https://www.musictheory.net/ (fundamental music theory stuff)
Pretty much every other subject has a related Reddit subreddit with a wiki which contains other learning resources; I don't like Reddit but I have to say, their wikis are nice.
hope I helped (-:

Shortly: Russian goverment are scared of NATO's interventing, especially in Ukraine. So after long period they commited casus-belli and declared war justifying it by frases like "Ukraine Goverment is Fascists" or "Ukrainian are bullying Russians on the east of the country, we need to help them" and more. Before that some people in our goverment said "Russia would never declare war. How can we do it after WW2". And they did. Oppositely Ukrainians are in hysteria and trying to make as much soykaf/fakes as they can to make Russia look like murders to the least part of world, while they were killing people on Donbass for last 8 years (last years not that much like in 2014 or 2017, but still). And western point isn't better. USA goverment tells us that War is a crime, How dare you! while they have been bombing all the Middle East like Iraq, Syria, or southeast asia for last 50 years. Isn't it just a hypocrite as fuarrrk?

America is using social media to wage a propaganda war while Ukrainians die for them in an actual war. It's not a happy place to be.
Spend less time on mainstream social media, nothing good will come from it. The new wave of anti-Russian sentiment is largely manufactured - people largely do not actually blame you or support punishing you.
Ukraine is in a bad place. Western countries are projecting the Ukrainian flag onto their monuments, indicating they are at the pretending to care while not actually doing anything to help stage.

First of all you need to stop being depressed. I know that all the anti-russian racism and propaganda is making you feel like there is no hope left and all you can do is to wait and take it, but that's not constructive thinking. Never succumb to this kind of passive way of thinking. You have to think actively. Turn their hate into your own hate. Turn their racism into your own racism. Turn their bias into your own bias. If Westerners hate you - hate Westerners. If Westerners are racist towards you - be racist towards Westerners. If Westerners spread anti-russian propaganda - spread anti-Western propaganda. If Westerners wish to see you dead - wish for their death too. This is the correct way of thinking. Never give up. If you still breathe, you can still fight. The Romans had a saying "Dum spiro spero" which means "While I breathe, I hope". You should too.

Most people don't understand 1984, they equalize each new talking head on TV a "Big Brother" without connection to Outer Party analogy, the group of people behind the talking head and further implications. Additionally to understand 1984 reader needs more context and further reading from same author, especially his opinion on Spanish Civil War. As you can see, the intellectual majority understands world better in terms of LOTR (rumored to be allusion on WWI), Star Wars (Dune for comic book generation) or Harry Potter universes. What today we'd call dystopias used to be utopian thought experiments for their time, born in futurist "think tanks", e.g. Bellamy's Looking Back, Zamyatin's We, Huxley's Brave New World. Are schoolchildren (in your country) even given contemporaries' commentary for these works or are supposed to come up with their own based on whatever the course textbook is saying and what they can elaborate out of existing cultural baggage at age 14-15?
Author of your picture also did not understand the functionality of telescreen calling it Big Brother for some reason. Telescreens had to have human operators listening and watching in the other direction, and in most cases acting as a psychological deterrent showing an image of Big Brother but not surveilling the area practically, whereas modern computerized voice assistants and video surveillance systems need no human operators, they record and process absolutely all sound since they are machines and machines don't need rest and scale better than human workforce at repetitive task. Better analogies with cybernetic priesthood and rogue wizardry and shamanism exist somewhere, this is the current topic from 70's onward actually.

I really feel at a loss, both russia fanatics and the followers of our religion of modernity will tell you something and respond with outrage and disbelief if you don't share their sentiment, like it's the most subhuman thing not to follow their ideology. They keep making themselves feel good by telling themselves how correct they are and morally superior for having the beliefs they have.
No one can even neurosuggest ukraine's leaders aren't the saints everyone hails them for, that ukraine had the biggest number of politicians pop up in the pandora papers, that zelensky who frequently masquerades as a "man of the people" has gotten quite deep pockets, without getting accused of being a russian propagandist, spy or general russia sympathizer. When someone makes a negatively connotated observation about the good guys, they are obviously into war and love russia and communism right? "After all someone is disagreeing with me they might as well believe in Satan."
This is how they force woke culture and climate feel-bad-aboutism and everything else down everyone's throat too, simply makes me sick. At least it's gotten obvious.

I disagree that both groups are equally as bloodthirsty or deranged. I don't remember ordinary russians giddily spamming photos of dead ukrainian conscripts on twitter or dehumanizing an entire ethnicity for the decisions of its leaders. and it's ironic that westerners hold the entire russian people culpable for putin's actions (wasn't he supposed to be a dictator?), while they have the privilege of living in a democracy and still knowingly vote in their war criminals.

Mostly innocent people:
a) Russian migrants who ran away from Russia for reasons like Putin and psychopaths who support him
b) Foreign students under age of 25 who had no practical say in political process even if assumed it to be democratic
Not innocent:
a) Diplomats who endorsed Putin and are members of ruling party, most of them obviously.
b) Oligarchs aka are best buddies of Britain and USA. Oligarchs are never prosecuted even when they are the main profiteers of war. The utopian scenario is to freeze their assets and auction all foreign property, then divide this money between victims of war on Ukrainian side and Russian budget after Putin and his government is removed. As they say, what's called corruption in Gommunist Russia is lobbying in Freedumbs America.
c) Russian migrants who still support Putin from abroad yet hesitate to move back to heckin' based Russia, these most likely to be minor family relatives of one of the above: children, wives, mistresses, cousins-inlaws, edgy soviet Jews, etc.
>divide russia's resources and also cheap gas prices :DDDDD t. reddit
Haha, wowie oof. Now this has always been the so-called progressive west's true objective, the lumpenprole's mouth speaks truth (paraphrasing New Testament). West does not need strong, democratic and independent Russia, that's an observable fact. And Russia indeed has no external allies, never had. Russia can only trust it's army and naval fleet. And right now there is only Putin's army of underfed conscripts stranded somewhere in steppes of Ukraine for his clique's insane ambitions with barrier troops loyal to Ramzan Kadyrov, who is loyal to Allah (euphemism for Putin) at the border.
Here's what a meme Russian politician, leader of "Libertarian Party" has replied to Michael McFaul's tweet shaming Russia's people:

Obviously the "tall grass gets cut first" applies but the difference between smart & dumb is gauging correctly when you can speak to take influence, when you cant and when following gets you killed. As being a blind follower gets you killed too. We have historical examples of purges of ivory towers were the academic brownnosers gathered.
On the other hand there's a theory of evolution i find compelling due to our war history - dumb tribe beats smart. You need pawns to win the war, if everyone is smart and prioritizes their own survival you wont get anywhere due everyone deserting. This is backed by medieval military history and its the theory why sapiens won over smarter hominids. Its also the history of our education system. Our modern education system stems from prussia which reformed education to deal with to many deserters sabotaging their war. Education was then reformed to create obedient soldiers and this is the model the modern citizen is raised upon as their education style got adopted by the entire west. (maybe other regions too but i dont have knowledge of african/asian education)

I don't think yall should conflate smarts with individualism. Clearly there's situations where some defections could kill the whole group, but the smart person in that case could just as well make sure he's only surrounded by non defective comrades.
Maybe in the massive hetrogenous countries like modern USA this doesn't make sense in most situations, hard to filter people, many people are strangers, can't trust average person to not defect, so smart people don't to things that depend on zero or few defections. It doesn't have to be like this.

The more intellectually apt ones sure are capable of malice, but to most common humans the idea of organized mallice is unconceivable.

Drano · 2022-03-24 15:16

The problem with high tec is you need to reach it and so you get pwned during the low tec stage and never get to see the benefits. And you're right that a team of idiots cant do much but outliers exist. So you get one smart guy lead a team of morons into their dead for the benefit of the group. The dead wont benefit but the group as a whole benefits from the taken over land&resources. This doesnt work when everyone is too smart to risk their ass for the greater good.
And then you have the benefit of learning which means you can teach people to be smart or dumb. The extreme cases being feral chidlren - without cultivating natural talent you get nothing.
And here is where education amplifies the peon & leadership division. The point of education here is you can train them to be dumb. Education is like installing software. If you give them mspaint they will never compete with people who get photoshop at private school. Even the outliers who make it through are utilized by the system as examples that its possible and merely your fault if you don't succeed so the system is perfect and thus needs no change. This then further got extended to the assembly line principle where everyone worker only gets thought how to behave but not why. The benefit is they can never understand or copy the factory. Old craftsmen learned everything and could go start their own shop, with the new model the worker is a replaceable cog incapable to understand the system he is part of which ensures he can never threaten the company.

Look OP, you simply lack the understanding of the situation. The way you percieve it and understand it is very surface level. You have to look behind the curtains. You don't ask yourself "why". That's where you have to start. Ask yourself "why". Ask yourself "why is this happening?". You only see the hate towars Russians that Westerners display as a side effect of current events. You think of it as a result of propaganda which is in turn a result of the war. That is the wrong way to think about it. You have to understand that the anti-Russian propaganda they flood the media with has been prepared way before the war even started. Heck, they have been spreading anti-Russian propaganda for a long time now, way before the war started. It has only gotten stronger now. They have been waiting for this war. They have been ready and they have only been waiting for an excuse to unleash the propaganda in full. You have to ask yourself "what is their goal?". Let me tell you what the goal most likely is. It is what it has always been: To exterminate the Russian race. Just look at history. Westerners have been trying to wipe out your race for the last 1000 years! Thousand frikin' years. Do you realy believe that something like that could have really change just because we have 21. century now? No. These things don't change. They simply want what they always wanted: They want to remove your race from existence, so they can take over your resources.

You've also got russian embassies online calling for the "humiliating death" (yes, this is a real quote) of Ukrainians.
You've got state media talking about how the Ukrainian identity has to be destroyed and how the ethnicity does not exist.
Meanwhile in the west the worst that you were able to find is 3 tweets that didn't actually lead to any real action.

They are right about all of those things.
The Western media is lying to you when they pretend that there are suddenly no nazis in Ukraine. They have been saying the same thing (Ukraine being full of nazis) for years, but now they have suddenly changed their whole narrative. Which means that they have either being lying before, or they are lying now. Guess which one is right...
The truth is: THERE IS A GOOD REASON FOR THE WAR.
Ukrainians have been massacring ethnic Russians in Donbas for ages. They have been cutting Russian children into pieces with axes and saws, setting them on fire, etc.
Russians are only protecting their own people and nobody can blame them for that.
If you believe that Russians have no right to protect their own people, then you basically saying that Russian lives have no value, which is actually a view very consistent with nazism, so the whole nazi narrative does makes sense, since Westerners are still holding straight up nazi views when it comes to Russia.

>Every newspaper is lying
it was always like this and always will be. a government cannot function without propaganda, but especially in the modern age there are some few methods to have somehow reliable information.
>my parents are soviet-fans
there were a lot of good things about the ussr and it was generally a far more humane system than the us.
reading your post i'm pretty sure you just have a depression, which is, don't get me wrong, nothing to easy to deal with. try learning new things and get into some hobbies (literature especially helped me through mine).

not that lainon, but why do normal people like you always scream bait out of the back of their lungs when confronted with unpleasant facts? is it that hard to comprehend that your government is supporting literal fascists or are you just not brave enough to admit that the people ruling over you don't always do the right thing? Either way please go back to 4ch or wherever you came from.

Agreed. I was glad to find out about Lainchan, years ago. It seemed to be the only place in the chanosphere or adjacent sites wherein people engaged in minimal name-calling or binary Us vs. Them thinking. What changed?

>the war wouldn't happen if the global west didn't nurture yeltsin and his gang of criminals.
the cause of the current situation is the west wanting to turn ukraine into a military base against russia, and not yeltsin. that alcoholic is long dead by now and his bloodshed in 1993 doesn't affect the world that much anymore.
>i pray to god and wish our military will glass the soykaf out of your biggest cities
do you realize that according to your own beliefs you are committing a large sin by wishing death and suffering for millions? you are no better than all those delusional western scumbags who are calling for internment camps for russians.

How does this stop everyone else being an asshole? This place changed right when the lockdowns commenced in 2020. Too many people with nothing better to do taking out their anger on other people with nothing better to do. The number of posts here that open with an attack on someone's character or intelligence before even beginning a counter argument makes me question the average age of people posting here.

>west wanting to turn ukraine into a military base against russia
There was already a NATO base on Russian territory in Ulyanovsk in 2010. West won, and Putin's theater is only theater for fools like you. The reason why Ukraine tried to distance itself from Russia is the direct outcome of Yeltsin's politics towards independence of Chechnya and Putin's internal and external terror.Ukrainians revolted against Bolshevik terror and 50 years later were awarded with independence, 30 years they witness Yeltsinite terror and their ancestral instincts kick in.

Tale as old as time.
It is funny that the war in Ukraine has directly caused what it was supposedly started to prevent. If the Ukraine wasn't a glorified NATO military base before it sure as soykaf is now.

Hello Russian, American here. What are the sentiments there like on the war now? How is day-to-day life, are people struggling for anything? Are there still knockoff McDonalds?

Most old people are for it, most millenials are against it, teens 50/50 (mostly decided by gender). The people who wanted to flee did a long time ago, and it's a big amount of intellectuals, proffessionals and just young people with money. Pretty sad.
Day-to-day life is completely fine, I don't feel isolated in any way, although weird oppressive laws keep getting approved. In the uni I study at, someone higher up literally told our professors to not allow overt lgbt representation in their art projects, just in case.
Working remotely in other countries is absolutely a thing, travelling there sometimes too.
Yes, knockoff McDonalds is here to stay and no, I haven't tried it

It doesn't surprise me that most old people are for it, my impression from travel channels on YouTube is that many of them long for the Soviet days. Funny that knockoff McDonalds is a thing, it reads like a Yakov Smirnoff joke. Try it for science!
Are you afraid of being drafted and sent to fight? If my government tried to send me there I wouldn't go, I don't want to fight for NATO. What are your personal feelings on the war? It isn't surprising that it happened in my opinion, most Americans just parrot the "Putin is crazy" narrative while ignoring our own actions over the years.

Pretty close to your case, anon. Can't leave with with parents being seriously sick and some other stuff. In my case, the answer to your case is, quite literally, fuarrrk everything.
I've spent the last decade trying to make this place and the world a bit better. I volunteered in homeless shelters and helped other people set up censorship circumvention. I donated to independent media and human rights orgs, the kind that actually do soykaf. I skipped on high-paying job offers to stay in fundamental, but important research and worked on collaborating with Europe and US. I went to protests when they were legal, then when they were illegal, then when they were cracked down upon. With time and effort, I "evaded" Moscow's city-wide facial recognition system. When the war began, I joined a network that helped "relocated" Ukrainians escape to EU.
Today, my country sees me as a traitor at best (this isn't new), and the rest of the world sees me as either a coward or a subhuman brute (this is new, somewhat). Today, the pundits on Russian TV spend the time left from praising the apartment building bombings to celebrate the total annihilation of the way of life that people like me used to have. Today, redditors celebrate every measure that cuts imports of medications that my parents require. Today high caliber western media that used to praise the kind of research we do spend time deliberating if I'm more of a mindless orc, a servile worm or a genetically-predisposed rapist. Naturally, the right answer is all of the above.
fuarrrk every single one of them. If aliens arrive tomorrow with an express goal of eating all humans, I'll hand them a fork and ask to be eaten last. I used to hope that I'll be able to hurt the smug cryptofascists running my country, to make them watch as everything they sold their soul for turns to dust. I still do, but now I really want to hurt Europe too. Maybe one day I will.
The answer to your question is to cut the "we" from your mind. The "we" hates you for being born, and since last year it always will, because that's how human nature operates. fuarrrk the toddlers being bombed, fuarrrk the pilots bombing them and fuarrrk the wailing mothers of either. It takes conscious effort, but, quite literally, this is the only feasible way forward.

Actually I shat my pants when my draft letter came, but apparently it was only cuz I was turning 18 and needed to update my documents or some soykaf. But if I wasn't careful I very well could've been drafted against my will at the time. Now I'm at a uni and that gives me security, but I don't know if it'll get worse in that regard, hopefully, it won't.
The war affects me personally, I have close siblings in ukraine so the realities of the war are always very close to me mentally (like their apartment and work place getting literally destroyed), but they are relatively secure now.
I do agree that americans are bafflingly hypocritical and that NATO is malicious, but the Russian gov ain't no saint either and sure as hell aren't doing this "for the people", you just have to look at the soykafshow right after the announcement and escalation of the smo.

What's not to understand? We think liberal democracy is good and authoritarianism is evil. We view the Russian government as inherently morally inferior. As such, when we depose a dictatorship or the French run counter-terrorism campaigns, it can be justified as spreading liberal governance or at least serving the interests of a liberal state. And when the Russians attempt to use military force to prevent Ukraine from joining a liberal-aligned international organizations, it is an affront to the liberal world order and warrants opposition. We aren't that complicated.
I am under no illusions that the Ukrainian government isn't corrupt and aggressively nationalist. But I think once the government is incentivized to join and maintain good standing with the EU it will moderate its worst impulses. Thus, I think it is justified for the United States to support the Ukrainian government.

I think you are badly misinformed if you view American backing of Ukraine as broadly domestically unpopular. A plurality of the American public still supports this policy. At worst, this is representative of a decline from wide support 1 year ago, to a regression to the mean political state of majority party support and minority party opposition. Furthermore, most anti-intervention camps do not stake their position on ideological grounds, but that the policy is simply not self-serving enough to justify its expense.
It is not unreasonable for a foreign observer to doubt the competence or long-term wisdom of US foreign policy. Although I am confused as to why you mention Serbia so much, that is regarded in the US as both a justified and successful campaign to stop a wildly excessive sectarian slaughter. Regardless, the point I wished to make is not that US intervention in Ukraine is a good thing, although that is my opinion, but that it is consistent with American ideology and political thought.

>Poll Say: Plurality of American Support sending weapons to the Ukraine.
Polls are fishy, shouldnt be trusted too far imho. Even still, supposing this is right all it means is nearly but not quite half of americans support an end conclusion, says nothing about the reasons, which are what >>35483 is pretending to elaborate. I don't think this is the case, but if 48% of americans wanted to send weapons to ukraine in the desire that more ukrainians die, that would still lead to this same polling result.
>party politics
the claim from their data that 40% of dems have high confidence in biden, 19% overall; lol litterally no one but dem's has confidence in him and not even half of them do.
>oppose because its not self serving enough.
IDK, the people I meet are surely not a random selection but I have met a lot of people who are very frustrated about us involvement in what feel like needless wars. They still complain about the iraq war. Some of these people impressively voted against Trump, the first president in my life time to not start a new war, not once but twice, and become very cagey when you mention this. Maybe they don't honestly present their views, maybe US elections are just rigged and popular opinion doesn't matter, or maybe I am good at finding these people by accident.
>y u keep talking bout srbija, is regarded in usa as successful & just!
Most Americans in my experience don't remember Serbia, most Serbs remember America, Bill Clinton, and Nato, and not with any fondness. Serbia is but a small country, but it contains approximately as much enthusiasm for russia and Putin as russia itself does. Now OK maybe you say it saved some people; it was still worth it, even if you alienate a whole nation. Perhaps, but did it even do this ?
Did it end the war/s earlier or more cleanly ? You have the UN hanging around watching but totally restricted from doing anything but watch thousands of people get killed, you have the Dayton Accords which kinda calm things down for a couple years before it heats up again (before calming down and heating up again lol), you have more nato bombings, more wars, the chinese embassy. End result ? Country still collapses, splits into several more or less ethnicly divided nation states, many people die but not insane number. OK maybe there's a few more muslims in the world and Kosovo probably wouldn't be 'independant' and available to host a large american military base and probable CIA blacksite, so that's important.
>the point I wish to make is not that us intervention in ukrain is GOOD but rather that its consistent with american ideology.
r u american? From where I sit I can't say that its at all inconsistent with fedgov behavior, but of the people I know there are not many who support the US involvement in the war, and those who do do not do it for the reasons described in >>35483 .
