Why are people so attached to their phone?
The Plague · 2021-06-23 19:24
I think that this could be said of every gen Z person but especially girls seem to be extremely addicted to their phone,
having an account on every social media platform,
posting about their life and pictures of themselves multiple times per day for likes, comments and other worthless attention points.
Whenever they're bored for even a few seconds they immediately pull their phone out and start consuming more garbage instead of being with their own thoughts for few minutes.
At this point they even started doing it when real people are standing next to them which is just gross and extremely disrespectful.
The reason I never had a girlfriend isn't because I can't get one, it's because most people of my age don't seem to care about anything other than doing what they were ordered to. Attend class, get good grades, watch the news, go to the gym, etc.
I myself have autism and get called out for being weird daily which is pretty annoying when I consider it a blessing that seperates me from these NPC's.
Where do I find people like me lainon? I've become pretty desperate for a person that understands me. The only girl in my class without social media only quit so she could have more time to binge Netflix' trash series.

Yeah, it's a common thing and people should be aware that it might develop in addicting personalities but I'm a smoker and I spent all day in front of a computer so who am I to judge people for their vices. The problem is that many aren't even aware of their vice. I was like this when i was in school. I remember the craving for scrolling fb, instagram, reddit and 4chan. It's not a bad thing per se, I mean, you have to be smart enough to surround yourself with interesting stuff. I have good memories of people known in niche fb groups. But every site works differently. On instagram normal people just follow what is famous. On reddit most of the posts are begging for upvotes. If you scroll mindlessly these "bubbles" for hours a day they can uniform your thougt. I know multiple people in real life that have this sort of reddit mentality. I think there is a lack of awareness about how this type of tech can influence our lives and personalities. But you can't blame others if you don't even try to show people something interesting. The mere fact that you don't use social networks isn't enough to impress other people. Do you do something interesting?

Early gen Z here, I have a brewing soykaf addiction but only on my PC.
I find phones boring and I only use my phone for sending text messages and photos to my friends (no social media garbage).
When using public transport I prefer looking outside the window because the city is more interesting than the phone, I also use the time for thinking.
I think phone addiction comes from the addictive design of social media - eternal scrolling.
>At this point they even started doing it when real people are standing next to them which is just gross and extremely disrespectful.
My real friends (also gen Z) don't do this. Someone who respects you won't use their phone unless someone calls them or they want to show you something.

Phone addiction is very real. Facebook and friends even figured out how to game notifications on apps to keep people glued to their phones by triggering rewards sensors in peoples brains when they get a message. Snapchat utilizes this to keep people using its app too.
>The reason I never had a girlfriend isn't because I can't get one, it's because most people of my age don't seem to care about anything other than doing what they were ordered to. Attend class, get good grades, watch the news, go to the gym, etc.
It isn't that you "Can't" get one, it is just 90% more difficult to get one without being a filthy nohrmie glued to your phone. I have dated a few girls who were surprised that I didn't have snap chat or facebook when I asked for their numbers.
If you are in college, I would highly recommend looking what kind of club or group activities are on campus. It will give you a reason to get in contact with people who share common interests. Seminars and events like cultural weeks and art groups are fun. Usually people go to them to meet other people and they offer food an music and things for people to do.
I've never been addicted to my phone, in fact I often have people ask me if I am okay because they could not reach me on my phone for a whole day. I have become extremely isolated because of my lack of online presence. I recently got a smart phone and I have noticed that if I am left unattended for long periods of time I usually read manga for hours on end.
As for a "why," I think that people find it socially awkward to interact IRL because they don't have the mask that they put on with their phones to protect them. If you talk about IRL, putting up an act takes more effort to create a public persona than on a phone where you can list keywords and use filters to achieve the same result at the touch of a button instead of focusing on how you look, dress, speak, and behave around others which can take a great deal of practice. I am single again because I couldn't stand being around my ex-gf who would just sit in the same room as me on tik-tok for hours on end, and would always snapchat her friends during meals despite my objection to it.
>>26676
>Someone who respects you won't use their phone unless someone calls them or they want to show you something.
This is not exactly the case, people are so addicted to their phones that they experience significant anxiety when they are separated from their phones. Many families and couples eat and sleep with phones. In some ways phones are closer to people than their loved ones. That is a disturbing thought as far as I am concerned.
Don't even get me started on relationship problems because of facebook.

Your phone connects you to the entirety of human knowledge in the form of the internet. Think of it as a cybernetic networking chip, except it's in your pants instead of your brain.
Of course you're anxious without it, you just lost 99.99999% of your knowledge, alongside contact with everyone you know, and emergency services.
Social media and that soykaf is stupid, but not the concept of the smartphone.

That has no bearing on the fact that 99.999% of smart phone users have turned social media into a communication crutch. Imagine having to express your emotion WITHOUT emojis and with actual words. This is incredibly difficult for most people.
Phones are not a tool for beginning trans-humanism, they are an escapist technology for entertainment.

Anyways, it's frightening how modern women in your description remind of Montag's wife in Fahrenheit 451. Unlike it's film adaptation, the cool bookworm girl disappears right in the beginning, the hero, and the reader are left alone in the insane world. The British/French move is quite well, but it invariably derails story into cinematic canon of love story mumbo-jumbo. Unironically, there's a recent Netflix (or other corporate) remake with nigger mc. Start by recommending that girl this movie, then slowly shift her perception into Max Headroom and Guy Debord's Society of the Spectacle, and then you should start reading books together or something. Well, you could at least watch obscure pirated films together, like Mister Robot did with his sister, so it's cool, right?

Soccer is a good example of something that makes me interesting. While I'm horrible at it I love it very much since it's something you can enjoy with others. The people that I used to play it with all "grew" up and are couch zombies, they rarely come outside these days and the ones that do are just on their phone in public.

This is essentially what the current system is leading us to, 6 years ago projectors were introduced at our school which was cutting-edge technology but now they even started buying these huge televisions with touchscreens that cost 2000$ per piece. None of the teachers know how they work so most of them just end up using the whiteboard.
If you're teaching something like math or physics you will NEVER need such complex technology but they basically force it upon these people.
If we stay at home stuck with our devices they decide what information we get to see after all.

The corruption in early car market is immense. In us public transport got intentionally crippled to drive car sales. Early electric cars got destroyed to keep gas up in 60s or something. There is a documentary about it showing the graveyard and early film of the models.
People dont get that conspiracies dont require a great plan or collusion, market demand drives simple corruption where everyone takes part in because its always easier and more profitable to cheat. Same reason phones are addictive now as >>26687 mentioned they literally admitted to using addiction research to maximize customer retention. Its much easier to exploit the human psyche than compete on product quality.
Social media aside i found the development in mobile gaming likewise disappointing. Best income? Casino gacha with anime girls. They make more money than any good game.

>especially girls seem to be extremely addicted to their phone
From my personal observation, women of all ages
are, as of now, extremely addicted to their smartphone, as the device offers the nearly effortless instant reward of reensuring their personal value or believes in this society or at least within a broad audience of people.
The smartphone is their tool to collect instant gratification from an endless resource of positive reinforcement.
Women have been trying to positively disguise themself and increase their personal value through make up, clothes and all kinds of tools ever since, and now they are creating staged virtual moments of themself for the very same reason.
It's absolutely ridiculous and equally sad at this point, but I'm afraid it is too late to counter this pandemic. Possible consequences will be a vast number of narcissistic, gratification seeking zombies totally detached from healthy real human to human interaction.

Gen Z here, I'm very familiar with what you're describing. I'd stare at my own phone when idling like anyone else would, but usually after around 10-20 minutes I would just run out of posts to like, notifications to check and news to read. But it seems everyone else in the room is permanently locked into their screens, and whenever I tried small talk I would just be rebuffed by indifference. This combined with my lackluster presence on social media eventually turned me into a shut-in by the end of high school and still appears to be the case today.

This has already happened. The CIA has effectively used social media to topple regimes, and psyops are a big thing.

lol, Gen Z here too, its unreal how accurate this post is. i don't really use social media as much as i used to but its still around 1hr a day. most of the time when i go to leave home, i dont bring my phone unless i need it.
i think this resonates with me a lot because i had a buddy in high school who wouldn't answer the phone but would answer a text or a snapchat. i literally had to face the reality that my peers prefer their phones and texting over the sound of a human voice and I've been cynical about them since.
i have another friend that's about as traditional as I am (lol I know) and we both noticed that the kids in my school who were given phones and other media devices at a young age are almost always devoid of a unique personality beyond the limits of acceptable norms.
>>26692
i actually think about this a lot, I think that because of the lack of social interaction brought on by people my age basing themselves out of their phone; kids my age are loosing the ability to stand up for themselves in the face of a higher authority (boss, someone dominating the conversation). I've noticed that its super easy to take lead among my peers if you are the first one who appears to know what you are doing. and more so, the first one to act with authority. without effort they just obey you, most of the time. i think it has gotten to the point where if a decent chunk of the kids my age feel vulnerable, they seek out someone to guide them, which is why I'm successful in leading (most of the time). i would guess that the vulnerability stems from having to function outside of a safe space (phone)
TL:DR, kids feel vulnerable without their phone, its super easy to take advantage of that with a little bit of confidence on your side

It's alien to me, but take that with a grain of salt since I'm pathologically anti-social and am fundamentally lacking in requisite wetware which makes these things appealing.
I'm technically gen z, and I've been completely divorced from those whom would otherwise be my 'friends' so to speak. Without social media, and without a job which entails proper exposure to enough people your age, socializing drops and approaches zero, unless you're fortunate to have a roommate who's not, entirely trash.
Clubs and events are probably going to be my final hope in this manner, because a few more years of this and I reckon I'll b scarred sterile, socially speaking for life.
Anyway, smart phones and their ilk have divorced those of us whom were abnormal to begin with so entirely from the massed at large, that I don't see this being reconciled any time soon.

I was born in 1998 and I got my first smartphone in 2011, so I practically grew up in the smartphone era. I have been aware of some of the unhealthy aspects of smartphones (internet addiction, shortening of attention span, etc.) for a long time already, but I have only recently started to realize how bad it actually is. I have never been that big on using social media, but instead of that I just used my phone to browse chans, forums, chatrooms etc. and I don't know if that's much better. Because of this, I recently switched to a featurephone (Nokia 800 tough) to try to force myself out of the smartphone addiction. to be honest, it has been pretty great so far. The only thing I'm a bit worried about is that I might end up further isolating myself as a result.
Some people say that you just shouldn't browse the internet or install apps on your smartphone, but imo it's not going to work if you are already addicted. It's almost like handing drugs to a drug addict and telling them that they just shouldn't use them. Some people seem to just brush this issue aside, but I don't know if they realize that just because it isn't an issue for them it can't be an issue for other people. For example, I see people using their smartphones while riding a bike all the fuarrrking time, so it's clearly a pretty big issue for many.
I used to think that having constant access to the internet in your pocket is a good thing, but I have started to seriously think that maybe society would be better if internet access was limited to desktop and laptop computers. I almost feel like we should start some kind of anti-smartphone movement. I don't know if making some kind of infographic website about the bad effects of smartphones would help, but I'm afraid that it would be a futile attempt. Most people probably just wouldn't listen, they would probably just shrug it off as some crazy rambling.

Not him but group pressure > your opinion unless you keep them isolated from the world. This makes it impossible to take over control from media&peers unless you go full cult. And its not an iq thing. Ive seen too many getting peer pressured into dumb soykaf. Friend would ace all tests in half the time and still tryhard acting cool at the party til until he had his stomach pumped out after blackout. I think most people are inherently wired to value popularity/group acceptance over their own rationality. The outliers likely exist due to negative experiences teaching them otherwise in early formative years which then reframe their entire way of social interactions.

Comparing computers to drugs is absolutely justified imo, both mentally and even physically.
I can tell from being addicted to drugs and computers in different forms most of my life, not to mention all those health studies and clinics out there.

Peer pressure is a very strong thing, especially when you are practically coerced into things you wouldnt do if it you werent put into a group hivemind.
You can have a 1000iq, as long as you have any emotions or are not a high level autistic that cant put on his own pants, you are more than likely to cave in with the proper conditions, young people particularly have it hard not being sucked into social schemes and those experiences really leave an impression and enforce a victim cycle, cults do it a lot.
>>27348
This is so true, the worst part is most he escapism is hollow mindnumbing entertainment instead of stimulating and somewhat interaction.
Im not even talking anything educational or some form of engaging hobby, even just looking at anything that is different or novel, like looking trough pictures of foreign places or listening to music.
Its just stuff that you sort of emulate to have something from that keeps you trapped in a consumer loop, its not even entertaining most of the time but just distracting.

Its one thing being an addict, being in denial and thinking its healthy and normal to be addicted is what is the real problem.
Most people today think its completely alright to just delegate all their social life to the botnet and expect everyone else to do the same then think its unhealthy if you are not in it, those are the real problem.
Even if you are addicted to computers atleast be addicted to the things you somewhat like and not because others expect you to be an addict like them or suck you in, if you cant enjoy something alone its a good indicator you dont enjoy it at all.
