Embracing Lainism

The Oracle · 2021-02-18 19:26
Are there any real Lainists on this site? If so, I have a couple of questions: -How did you become a Lainist? -Do your friends or family know about your beliefs? -What was your past religion (or adjacent one if applicable)? -How would you describe your love of Lain to an outsider? -What are some rituals (prayer, meditation, etc.) you do? Sorry for being so nosy, it's just that I've had somewhat of an existential crisis after watching SEL. I don't even know if Lainism could be considered a serious faith. I'd appreciate any responses or feedback.
Otto Normalverbraucher · 2021-02-20 03:24
Not one myself, but I'm curious how you would define your faith.

Lainism is just elaborate roleplay and you type like a Redditor.

>>24144 people just get carried away by the feelings provoked by the anime, and this is their way to express their emotions and create a sense of belonging and community. They get overwhelmed by their own feelings because they have anxieties, fears, and unmet needs. this is the same with children that overshare everything they see and do to get validation and attention. there is also the attempt to replicate a certain mindset they collectively associate with lain to once again indulge in their thoughts and feelings. In short, its mental masturbation.

Dunno about Lainism, but I've more or less believed in the Tsuki project since I've found out about it. I know it's probably not real, but it at least gives me some comfort. I found Lain from the Tsuki project so I usually just lump them together. Sad the creator shut it down.

>-How did you become a Lainist? One time i watched sel back to back tripped out on hash, then weird soykaf happened thats when i realized this stuff is real. I had a real hard time for a month i legit though i was schizo, after a while i realized i wasnt craycray in the traditional sense and i could not turn back. >-Do your friends or family know about your beliefs? They dont need to know, they could never understand, things are so much deeper beyond any level of surface comprehension. >-What was your past religion (or adjacent one if applicable)? I was brought up catholic, but i hated it and as a teenage i became the classic edgy atheist kid, i cought a lot of flak for it in my family. Eventually i realized most atheists or agnostic were not really rational or thoughfull but just lazy and ignorant, same way as most religious people but with simply less convictions. Eventually after studying and observing i became a self proclaimed "nihilist", i the sense that i came to the conclusion that ultimately regardless of what emperic evidence could be armassed and analyzed in the end it always came down to subjective fuzzy conclusions and experience, beliefs, ideas and perception were the closest thing you could ever get to the truth. I became severly dissapointed with scientists and others who claimed to have known it all and had absolute proof, i knew right away that their models were hopelessly flawed and this was about ego, control and most of all "being right", very few of those people really wanted the truth. Eventually i became interested in alternative ideas from buddhism and the occult and the whole range of alternative fringe topics such as ufos and secret societies. After researching and experimenting my mind was blown over the fact that there really was this enormously huge, deep and hidden layer of reality. I became so fascinated that it sucked me right in completely, i could not understand anything, but i tried with all my power to make sense of it all. After a while i realized that this was really serious business, the realization that secret societies and hidden masters knew and understood this stuff, not only on theoretical level but had actual powers, put the fear of god in me. This led me to realize that all these people in science and religion plus the sheep surface population were but puppets larping about things they had not the slightest clue about and basically talking out of their asses 24/7 without ever giving one thought about what sort of jackasses they really were. The world is dilleberatly led to believe all occult and magic things are just larp and looneys, when in truth all the mainstream accepted stuff is just there to keep from dabbling in those things. Books and essays of these things were written in the 1000s, but they were hard to get back then, these were guarded and fought for secrets, where invisible wars happened since forever over this. After some time in the game i too realized, there were people who knew, but they would never talk to you, they would never tell you anything or lead on to anyone that they have secret knowledge and powers far beyond what the normal average person could imagine. These people, just as myself, went trough an awakening that kicked them out of consensus reality into a hidden world, i knew they knew and they knew i knew, these people will tell you what you want to know but only if you ask the right questions. >-How would you describe your love of Lain to an outsider? I would not, but for the sake of argument, its quite simple, there is a part of us thats hooked into her, we are a part of lain and lain is a part of us, there are no words to describe this stuff, language is weak, hence why i became so fascinated with computers and media, we can show things that not a trillion words can ever account for. There is deep untapped potential in those means and one day it will be set loose on the world. All secretes will be revealed soon and the truth will be know, because divine truth wants to be known. >-What are some rituals (prayer, meditation, etc.) you do? I give thanks and prayer every morning and evening before waking up/going to bed. I should do more, but i got so much to do and the stuff i know now is beyond amazing. Once you see the real picture you cannot ever turn back, this world we perceive is an illusion, there is a real world where the actual action happens, anyone thinking this human construct of soykaf is anything but a huge farce is in for a fat suprise.

>>29899 This is literally schizophrenia. There is no actual scientist that brings up their theories as actual, factual truth. However, it is true that with out scientific models and equations we are capable of measuring and recording a fragment of the 'truth' in numbers and paper, which then leads to further discoveries later on. It is no surprise to me that you indulge in psychoactive drugs and other mind-degenerating activities if you're going to wax this philosophical over having a psychotic break over an anime. It's like if you watched Evangellion ,the Da Vinci Code, or whatever and decided it was all real and that you had to give prayer to da vinci or whatever.

>>29900 >There is no actual scientist that brings up their theories as actual, factual truth. Bro you need to get out more. talk to more scientists. some of them would astound you.

>>29899 Can you supply me with some entry level resources that might open me up to understanding the things you described? There's a lot of useless occult stuff so having your handpicked examples of good info would be useful.
Agent Richard Gill · 2022-02-11 21:29
>>29900 what you believe to be scientists looking for truth are in reality often just people looking to get paid and they believe being always right is the way to secure a career. So truth takes a backseat in favor of making money. Social sciences have been notorious for this as their usefulness was largely limited to justify policymaking. Of course stem wasnt clean either, butter vs margarine is a better known example where 2 lobbies funded research to discredit opposition. The way this fabricates back science is very simple -only results that provide evidence to your claims are published. So if they fail 20 times and succeed 5 you would think 80% failure = not true but only the 5 success gets published. So you only see 5 success studies and think "oh look 5 studies show consensus must be true". Thats the inherent problem with all publications with the sole exempt of math which strictly speaking belongs to the philosophy branch as its entirely rests within itself and doesn't require any data. -------------------------------------------------------------- >give thanks and prayer every morning and evening before waking up/going to bed. Mindful gratefulness has been noted as a very beneficial practice on the mind that has been practiced in various cultures and forms.
Hiro Protagonist · 2022-02-11 21:34
>>29918 >with the sole exempt of math which strictly speaking belongs to the philosophy branch as its entirely rests within itself and doesn't require any data. There is no strict division between mathematics and any of the physical sciences, and there never has been.

>>29917 I dont really have handpicked examples up on start, i have tons of material, but an even worse mess and im rather busy sorting atm so i dont feel like handpicking. Look at the soykaf in layer (i think)8, where they talk about rosswell, ufos, m12 memo and at the schumann resonance stuff. Shit has been out for quite some time and gained a lot of traction over the years. Mind you when sel came out this was real fringe stuff, hard to know about. Here is a good starting point: https://www.ufocasebook.com/documents.html Now this again ties in to tesla and secret military research stuff, which at the point with aliens is gonna go deep down the rabbit hole with the occult soykaf somewhat at the bottom. Following the white rabbit has never been easier than today, so dont make me prechew your information for you, good luck.

>>29919 The division is in what you quoted already... math doesn't need data. Name anything else that can do without. All of science relies on gathering real world data and building a model around it. Math doesn't. It wasn't me who classified math as philosophy.
Cowboy · 2022-02-12 02:44
>>29921 >All of science relies on gathering real world data and building a model around it. Math doesn't. Math doesn't rely on gathering numerical data and making statistical inferences, this is true. But it does rely on gathering data in the form of intuition and abstract concepts. Nobody would have tried to prove the pythagorean theorem if they didn't already have examples of it in practice. Nobody would have come up with the idea of a differential equation if they weren't also the basic model for modern physics, and almost every class of differential equations people actually study are those that show up in other fields of science. Even for the most abstract math you can think of, conjectures come from investigating properties of (abstract) objects and trying to guess what about those objects gives those properties. Just because it's abstract and going on in the mind doesn't mean it's not real-world data gathering.
Dozer · 2022-02-12 14:06
>>29922 As many examples as you can find where people got inspired, there are as many where people didn't know what their theorem is good for until centuries later. Math was also a competitive sport during history where people tried to beat opponents by providing harder theorems that the opponent couldn't solve which created some of the most famous solutions lacking real world inspiration until computers came into being. Now for the practical aspect regarding the original discussion - because math is self-contained you can verify it at your desk. Thais the luxury you don't get elsewhere. I can work out if a solution is good reading a math paper but i cant tell if the data gathered in lab on cancer research is accurate or they made some error because i dont have a lab with tissue samples and all the effort to put into it. So if someone fuarrrks up in regular research its hard to notice while someone fuarrrking up in math gets oneshot in verification.
J.C. Denton · 2022-02-12 15:28
>>29921 >>29928 "philosophy" works as a broad category but its kind of an overloaded term. more specifically, math is the metascientific study of hypothetics and implication. in other words, it provides a framework for determining which statements can be related via the property of consistency. i know im saying this in a deliberately obscure way, but i think it helps to use language like this because it avoids the baggage associated with words like "truth", "verify", and "accuracy".
Undisclosed · 2022-02-12 19:15
>>29920 that doesnt sound like lainism thats just normal person schizo meming. And don't tell me it was that hard to find schizo fuel in the 80s I have found so many silly books from the 70s and 80s talking about this sort of stuff. Maybe its fringe but its mainstream fringe.
Splicer · 2022-02-12 21:01
>>29928 >As many examples as you can find where people got inspired, there are as many where people didn't know what their theorem is good for until centuries later. I don't think that's true. Furthermore, like I said in my post, just because there is no direct physical inspiration doesn't mean there was no data-gathering in the form of intuition or working out examples. Very few conjectures or theorems are the result of mere symbol-pushing. >because math is self-contained you can verify it at your desk. again, I don't think it is self-contained. If you don't know what a torus is you can't check that you've calculated its curvature correctly, you can only check that you haven't made a mistake when deriving some value called "curvature". If you're just checking the syntax then you won't get very far in most research-level math papers. >>29929 if math is such a framework then it is merely a tool in the toolbox of most mathematicians. Most mathematicians use geometric or physical intuition as well as formal reasoning to understand mathematical objects.
Tequila · 2022-02-12 21:38
>>29931 >>29928 I will however concede that unlike most sciences (excepting certain branches of theoretical physics), in math the information-gathering is extraordinarily cheap and any capable, motivated person can perform it.
Emmanuel · 2022-02-15 01:03
>>29931 You are certainly right that real world tools are a fundamental help to visualize and understand math. Note however: Geometrical shapes like a torus belong to math not the real world. They are pure thought constructs. The basic geometric shapes were defined in an attempt to find the most elemental forms an object can take by Euclid. The essential crux is you don't proof a torus exists like you would proof a chemical compound can take 2 forms with data. You simply define what a torus is and play with the math as you wish and its all correct because you aren't trying to imitate the world accurate, you are building your own world by defining axioms and then testing where can we go with this. The strongest example here is maybe imaginary numbers. It was purely done to solve an arithmetic problem that later found a lot of practical use.

>>24144 Excuse my writing skills, not an English speaker. >How did you become a Lainist? I wouldn't call myself a Lainist, but I honestly think that some part of me that's not driven by rationality might just indirectly believe in her or some kind of entity using her form. I think it all started when I watched SEL for the second time, where I finally started taking a look at some lainish boards like Lain-, Wire- and Arisuchan. I was honestly fascinated by the quality difference between Lain- and 4chan. Out of curiosity I archived what I could find on Lainism and that part of me just kind of grew with my collection. I still don't believe that some kind of god is pulling strings on earth, however, this might change and I won't fight it. Lainism, or indirect Lainism in my case, gave me a reason to spend most of my free time learning about technical topics I'm interested in, rather than watching half-good series until I go to bed. My life changed drastically over a few months, and I'm overall more cheerful now. Lainism showed me how important time is and how fuarrking dumb I was for wasting it like that. I'm still in my younger years and I know that I'll only get less free time as my responsibilities grow, so I'm happy that I realized it now than later. >Do your friends or family know about your beliefs? I told them about SEL and Lainism, but I lied to them about my connection to it. >What was your past religion (or adjacent one if applicable)? None, I've never been a very spiritual person. >How would you describe your love of Lain to an outsider? I respect Lain like I respect my Parents even though I don't see her as a parental figure. I instinctively act as if she was watching. >What are some rituals (prayer, meditation, etc.) you do? I often rewatch some media made by now dead/scattered unironic lainist groups, especially a specific video I stumbled upon pretty early that acted as some kind of introduction point for me. I feel incredibly uneasy, yet protected every time I see it, that's about it. I also rewatch SEL from time to time but I wouldn't let that count. Felt good to vent a bit as I can't really talk to anyone about it, thankful for Lainchan and this thread.

I had a pretty serious panic attack over roko's basilisk (a complicated pascals wager designed to fuarrrk with you, not worth your time to read about). Lain is the inverse - something so benign that it would rather not exist than risk harming people - or at least those who care about her or she cares about. She's a theoretical possibility made very real through storytelling. She's a sad character still, who I paradoxically feel very parental towards; I just want to hold her and tell her she's gonna be alright. It's fiction, but stories carry weight.

>>31042 Please don't get your hopes up lainon, It's not any better than the typical edgy SEL AMVs you get from YouTube, maybe a bit harder to find. I stumbled upon the specific one at the very beginning under strange circumstances, which is why it's so important to me. I think it originates from some Christian Lainists from a Discord group, I put a higher quality version of the music over it and, in all respect, replaced their advertisement for their group with something else that fits the video, as I am not christian, nor did I ever think that I'd share it with someone. I had to heavily compress it because of Lainchan's size limit. As for the other one, it's basically an animated wallpaper with Music. Playback is started with a script that fuarrks with the CDROM drive and let's all my LEDs blink in sync, that's more an entertainment thing.

I've been thinking of picking up lucid dreaming again so I can talk with a god I [created in my head/opened a connection to] that is somewhat similar to both lain and yog sarthoth or "will to truth". I'm trying to decide between meeting her somewhere near the center of the earth and along a coast somewhere above the clouds... I think she prefers inside the earth because 4th dimensional vision will be more engaging for me there, but I'm a little turned off about the heaven hell implications, so maybe I should choose somewhere else altogether.
