2000's weeb internet asthetic
Unknown · 2021-01-21 09:43
I absolutely adore this kind of aesthetic, the early 2000's weeb look. I love the handrawn stuff you used to see on deviantart around this time as well. Is there any community I can go to appreciate this in? I really love this kind of stuff

Feel free to post any examples of this stuff you have below. It's all very pleasing to me

Ok last post to finish the op, I found a small community of girls who LOVED schrodinger like 10 - 15 years ago. There was a small community kind of dedicated to him and other hellsing characters. They drew some cute pictures. I love the historical aspect of going back and finding these.

Tell me, how does it feel?
Junichi Fujiwara · 2021-01-21 18:29
They call it "webcore" over on Tumblr, though it expands a bit to cover more than just anime. But only a bit.

I wish I had something to contribute, I love this aesthetic. I feel like the only thing missing is an oldschool client for RS2

God I miss these. I wonder if I can achieve the same if I install Linux with themes.
Dox · 2021-03-06 19:59
I find this Windows aeshtetic very pleasant to see, I wonder what was the aesthetics of linux distros in the 2000s, I don't see as much nostalgia from early Linux as it is to early Windows.

It really depends, the linux theming trends were rapidly changing at the time. Before Windows XP themes inspired by other unix enviornments like Motif and NeXT.
When Windows XP came out lots of imitators were made. The most used was clearlooks, a modified version (orange) was the default in some versions of Ubuntu. I think a lot of people see that, along with the 2 panel layout used by gnome2, to be the definitive look of Linux in the mid 2000s.
A lot of the "ricers" used icewm back then. Windows XP style was even more popular there. There were perfect calques of the XP theme, along with the super dark gradient themes that look like they're stained with cooking grease inspired by the custom themes that were often installed by default on gaming laptops.
In the late 2000s after Vista came out compositing was the new thing. A lot of themes, like Ubuntu's, started to develop their own styles.

You can also look up Blackbox themes, I remember that WM being pretty trendy. Or at least trendy enough to where people made a Windows port technically just a shell replacement+window skin engine inspired by Blackbox, loved using it on my toaster back in the 00s.

i think you'd like heyuri, just look it up.

I too adore this. I basically came of age on the 2000s weeb internet and it'll always be special to me. That's one reason I'm always seeking out deeper, more hidden corners of the internet. They seem to preserve a little bit of that feeling, albeit with more cynicism.

Me too. I especially love websites/forums from that area that still exist and haven't changed their aesthetic. The web 1.0 aesthetic is just too cool.
Morpheus · 2021-10-09 03:08
Gonna contribute a few images.

Windows 2000 + LiteStep was my happy place when my Athlon XP system was new and cutting edge.
