Has anyone tried meditation? Is it helpful at all? I am considering trying it. I always feel like I am lost in my own fantasy world and time goes by, the day ends. I want to stop this and do something.

>>20645 There are many kinds of meditation. What most people mean when they say meditation these days is mindfulness meditation. There are many studies that prove the positive effect of mindfulness meditation on mental health. It is not controversial at all that it is helpful. However you should get a good resource for meditation. My personal favourite is a book called The Mind Illuminated. It can be quite technical for a meditation book, but the concepts it teaches about attention, awareness, mind wandering etc. are really helpful even if you end up studying meditation through a different resource. Finding a meditation instructor IRL is probably as good or better, if they are qualified. Maybe another lainon can say more about that, I've only studied meditation through books and practice. But please really take the time to try out good resources. It would be a shame if you ended up deciding meditation is not for you after having only tried out soykafty instructions from forums, image boards and internet articles.

dont read any books on it. If you’re a westerner stay away from all of that tantric stuff it can fuarrrk you up. Close ur eyes and breathe.

I did it many years ago, i wanted to get back into it but im having a rough time breaking habits. I want to get back into it myself, i think it might be good for both of us. It might be very useful for getting that imagination back into control, which is something i need to do badly too.

>>20649 don’t do kundalini or chakra stuff unless you are an Indian who grew up around ppl who have done it proficiently. You can induce psychotic delusions from incorrect meditation / not being able to handle it.

>>20651 Please elaborate about the delusions

>>20652 like seeing ghosts and stuff. I’ve heard it’s similar to psychosis from an acid trip. Nobody will ever tell u this stuff though because the western person thinks only material stuff and science are valid. https://www.yogadangers.com/carljung/ this site looks sketchy but the book quoted is legit

The Mind Illuminated is a great (mostly) no BS and very thorough intro to meditation, but it is a bit dense... Would recommend. Meditation is great if you can build a habit of it.

How does one do the 'interesting' meditation? I don't care about health or focus or mindfulness, I wish only to reduce the separation between this world and the next, between wakefulness and dreams.

>>20650 >>20649 I just want to get control over my mind that's all. U see i have a talent, i.e to waste away the whole day making weird fantasies in my head. So i want to make my attentions span and concentration good. Also be done with instant gratification addiction. >>20648 >>20649 >>20651

>>20669 Try lucid dreaming, Unlike most "chakras n soykaf" there's a somewhat solid scientific base here. Entry into the LD state is pretty straightforward, and if done right you can turn a dream into your personal gmod server while being able to influence your subconscious part. http://gen.lib.rus.ec/book/index.php?md5=C34755E3AF87B17A6C7535F7CDF375CE

>>20673 Lucid dreaming is great, but this doesn't seem to address OPs problem of daydreaming. To cut down on the excessive daydreaming, you should improve your conscious awareness (so you realize when your mind is drifting off right away and not 30min afterwards) and your ability to intentionally keep your attention on the subject you're trying to concentrate on (during mindfulness meditation we call this object the meditation object). As I have written in >>20648 , The Mind Illuminated is a good resource to learn about these skills and how to improve them. >>20655 seems to agree. But they are correct in pointing out that a habit is necessary to reap the benefits. >>20669 Concerning instant gratification, I've found that meditation helps, but it wasn't enough by itself. I also had to change my environment to be less over stimulating to cut down on instant gratification.
